Whiskey Off-Road Mountain bikers returned to this year’s Whiskey Off-Road race April 28-May 1 after a two-year hiatus to fly over some of the area’s most exhilarating (and challenging) pieces of singletrack – including the new Spence Basin trail network, double track, gravel roads, and the occasional paved segment. Contestants and spectators got to enjoy three fun-filled days of event festivities and being submerged in the mountain bike industry. Bike-minded people mingled while appreciating the area’s wild west heritage and being welcomed by its modern-day appreciation for the outdoor enthusiast. All finishers rode away with a commemorative pint glass emblazoned with the 15, 30 or 50 miles they completed and the town cheered the return of this annual event.

KEEPING THE BLUES ALIVE

An Education in the Blues

by Scott O’Neal, The Scott O’Neal Band “Put on my blue suede shoes, and I boarded the plane. Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues in the middle of the pouring rain.” This quote from the Marc Cohn song rang true for us as the band traveled to Memphis. The Scott O’Neal band placed first in Northern Arizona’s International Blues Challenge and earned the right to compete on Beale Street against acts from around the world. Our Memphis set had been rehearsed and played at our regular gigs since August. We knew our material and pulled it off with precise accuracy. We were showered with positive comments and accolades from the audience and other musicians, as well. Unfortunately, the decisions were made by four independent judges

who are ruled by their own criteria and not the opinion of the crowd. Needless to say, we did not come out on top in the competition this time, but we got an education that will be put to good use and hopefully take us further the next time. That being said, we had an amazing week in Memphis and made a new world of contacts and new friends. Put on in May by the International Blues Foundation, it is said to be “the world’s largest gathering of blues music and musicians,” and if you’re a fan of the genre it’s an experience you’ll never forget! There are two categories in the competition: solo-duo acts and the band category. For three nights every club on Beale Street (and there are a lot of them) hosts six to eight

acts. There is literally more great music than one person can take in. That’s not the only attraction to be experienced in town either. You can go to Sun Records and hear the stories of BB King, Howlin’ Wolf, Carl Perkins, Ike Turner, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and hold the very microphone that all of them — along with Elvis — sang into. Then there’s STAX Museum of Soul music. That’s the one we enjoyed the most. On top of all the historical sites is the food; oooh, the food! There’s Gus’s world famous fried chicken (great!). and I’ve yet to find a bad barbecue joint there. In closing, I just want to say, “Thank you Memphis, and The Scott O’Neal Band is not done.”

Quad Cities home prices continue to grow as sales soften Prescott, AZ – The median sales price of homes throughout the Quad Cities rose nearly 20% in April 2022 compared to last April as the prices continued to post year-over-year increases, according to the housing market report released today by the Prescott Area Association of REALTORS®. (PAAR). The Quad Cities median home sales price was $455,000 in April. Home sales fell off last April’s pace by 6.8% to finish April 2022 at 355. The median sales price in Prescott was $602,333, an increase of 18.7% compared to April 2021 and the highest median price throughout the Quad Cities. However, the Prescott median sales retreated 7.5% from its 2022 highwater mark of $651,500 in March. April home sales in the area matched the April 2021 total of 138. Homes went under contract in a median time of six days. Prescott Valley’s median sales price grew by 15.5% from a year ago to reach $440,000 in April. The April median price also declined 4.3% from

its 2022 high of $460,000 in March. Six days represents the median time a home was on the market there. The 111 homes sold during March were one less than the March 2021 total. “Today’s homebuyers remain motivated to find their next home in the Quad Cities before any additional mortgage rate increases,” said George Beitzel, 2022 PAAR president. “However, as rising mortgage rates and inflation stretch buyers’ budgets, they are becoming more restrained in their offers. While Prescott Area REALTORS® are still helping buyers and sellers navigate multiple offers, the red hot bidding wars of the past 18 months are cooling as are final selling prices.” “While rising interest rates and the overall state of the economy will undoubtedly continue to have an impact on the housing market, the typical life circumstances that result in someone wanting to buy or sell a home will remain constant and generate activity throughout our region,” said Beitzel. “Prescott

Area REALTORS® continue to project an active late spring and summer market in the Quad Cities with some moderation in closed sales and price growth.” Chino Valley had a median price increase of 36.9% compared to a year ago, reaching $423,750 in April. The 36 closed homes sales were down 18.2% compared to April 2021. Dewey-Humboldt had 27 closed home sales, a decrease of 6.9% from a year ago. The median sales price was $430,000, an increase of 15.3%. There were 615 homes listed for sale in the Quad Cities at the end of April, a 64.9% increase from the April 2021 total of 373.
