Bistro St. Michael Where the Locals Eat

Bistro St. Michael is a downtown neighborhood restaurant and bar inviting locals to experience a refreshing lunch with crafted cocktail, select draft beer or savory wine while enjoying a twist on such unique favorites as housesmoked brisket, mahi fish and chips, or Prescott cheesesteak. The restaurant also is open for breakfast offering selections of decadent egg benedicts, housebrazed corned beef and hash and rich Bistro biscuits and gravy. The goal is for diners to enjoy wonderful food and extraordinary service in Prescott’s amazing downtown. Did you know 32 years ago the St. Michael was an abandoned building in a blighted downtown? True, and since then the mission has been to

lead by example via restoration and inspired business development of the hotel, bistro and specialty shops. Bistro St. Michael is committed to preserving the historic character of downtown Prescott while promoting an exciting downtown experience. The restaurant has undergone big changes in the past couple of years. The COVID-19 shutdown presented an opportunity to enhance the Bistro’s roots! The whole restaurant was refreshed revealing several pieces of historic magic hidden over time including the 120-year-old floors. Plans are to open for dinner soon. Locals know the restaurant’s philosophy is about quality over speed, so patience is required. Check in on Facebook or www.bistrostmikes. com, or better yet, come on in — at the “Cornerstone of Whiskey Row.”

A RODEO LEGACY

In Memoriam: Chris Graff

Prescott Frontier Days, Inc.® (PFD) President Chris Graff died on July 2, 2022 during the Saturday Performance at the World’s Oldest Rodeo®, which is exactly how many people who knew him say he would have wanted to go. The all-around community leader was born May 18, 1960 in Clifton, Texas and raised in Paullina, Iowa, and brought his own family to Prescott in 1997. An avid outdoorsman, he became an integral part of the local rodeo community and loved the history and culture that its central event brought to the city. His determination and “no-guff” attitude helped to ensure the nonprofit’s ongoing success and led to his selection as PFD’s president in 2016, a title

he held for the rest of his life. One of his favorite quotes was: “Tell me I can’t, then watch me work twice as hard to prove you wrong.” Jim Dewey Brown, PFD general manager, said, “Graff is now a part of our rodeo’s legacy. He strived to share rodeo traditions with people from all over the world. We will be forever thankful for all he has done for the organization, and our community.” The Prescott Valley resident was respected as a businessman as vice president of Asphalt Paving/ McCormick Construction, where he was employed for 17 years. He was active in numerous other organizations, serving as Chairman of the Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce and Vice Chair of the Prescott Valley Economic

Development Foundation. He was a board member of Arizona’s chapter of Associated General Contractors, a recent past member of the board of directors for the Association of Rodeo Committees and earlier this year became vice president of the Mohave Valley Contractors Association and a board member for United Way of Yavapai County. He is survived by his wife Denine Graff; his children: TC “Travis” Graff, Tasha Robbins, Erica Buckavich and Tera Stubelfield; and his six grandchildren. Chris was a friend to ROX Media and we will miss him along with the rest of Greater Prescott.

Special Delivery

From Prescott Public Library Prescott Public Library is committed to serving all patrons in the Prescott community, and because many Prescott residents are unable to visit the library, two services are here to help! Books on Wheels is designed for patrons confined to their residence because of illness or physical disability. Library staff assign a library volunteer to individuals homebound, and that volunteer selects library material (books, audiobooks, DVDs, magazines and music CDs) for the patron based on their needs and interests, checks them out, and delivers them to the patron’s home. The loan period for these items is six weeks, and volunteers usually visit the patron monthly. If you read large print and are a homebound resident unable to get to the library, a service available to

you is Books By Mail. Books By Mail offers delivery of large print books only through the U.S. Postal Service. Patrons communicate with library staff about their reading interests, and librarians will select large print items, place them in a special mail pouch and send them out to the patron. The library has a large selection of large print books: nonfiction, mysteries, romance, Westerns, memoirs, fantasy and classics. When patrons finish reading the books, they simply turn around the address card on the pouch and leave the pouch for the postal worker to pick up. If you or someone you know might benefit from Books on Wheels or Books By Mail, visit our website at www. prescottlibrary.info and follow the brown “Services” tab to “Community Services” or call the Ask a Librarian Desk at 928.777.1526 to get started.

SUPPORTING THE YOUTH OF PRESCOTT

Youth Livestock Auction set for Sept. 10

The Youth Livestock Auction at this year’s Yavapai County Fair will be 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10. The fair, one of the longest running fairs in the state, is Sept. 8 to Sept. 11 at the Prescott Rodeo Grounds. The youth livestock auction is presented on the behalf of county youth who have invested their own time and resources to select, feed and groom their animals. Some animals take more than one year to raise. It’s a big investment. You are buying these animals to support our county’s youth; this is not a discount pricing auction. This meat is local, high quality and you are helping future ranchers and farmers in our community. Many local small businesses

use this meat as customer perks, employee incentives and retention strategies. Buyers can preregister (which provides special parking and other perks) at www.yavapaifair.com or register at the event. Buyers will receive an information package, which includes information on processing. Animals may be bought for personal or commercial use. Large animal resells go through a list of approved resellers. If you don’t want the meat yourself, check “resale” on the paperwork when you register; we will handle the sale. Bids are taken by the animal for small animals and by the pound for large animals (proxy bidding is available).
