Loop Provides VARIETY OF VIEWS, WORKOUTS AROUND WATSON LAKE
The Watson Lake Loop follows the nearly 5 miles of shoreline around what is probably the most dramatic and famous lake in the Greater Prescott area. It’s composed of portions of several trails.
This is a testament both to the extensive network of multiuse recreational trails here and the untamable shore of the lake itself.
The lake is easily approachable from the south, about a third of a mile north of the head of the Peavine Trail, which follows the southeast shore. You can also cross over to the Discovery Trail, which travels up the southwest shore, the two forming parallel easy-rated paths to be shared by all hikers and bikers — the loop is not recommended for horses.
At about the same point on each side of the lake, an eighth of a mile up, the topography begins to splinter into the rocks and coves the lake is known for, and the Watson Lake Loop starts to become a little more treacherous.
On the west side, the Lakeshore (aka Fishing) Trail hugs a half-mile of shoreline with a moderately easy (and sometimes crowded) path used by anglers and kayakers. This is Watson Lake’s southern backshore, green and scenic in a markedly different way from the pink and tan granite boulders that dominate most of the lake.
Then you hit the Explorer Trails, a cluster of paths etched over the
boulders directly east of the large hilltop ramada in Watson Lake Park, sending hikers scrabbling over them to catch different angles of the lake and terrain, an interesting diversion before heading on to the North Shore Trail.
This trail’s granite base brings hikers straight into the heart of the Dells, heading toward the towering, boulder-strewn hills that define the Dells throughout northern Prescott. You’re rewarded with a great view of the dam forming the lake and at the end a short side trail to the dam’s back side, a small waterfall.
The Over the Hill Trail moves a bit away from the shore for about a mile, weaving through more of the rocky, yet oddly smooth formations, which have drawn untold numbers of hikers, bikers and climbers to the region.
It also takes you past the not-so Secret Cove, captured in countless photos and frequently explored by kayak and paddleboard, before turning into the Lakeside Trail, which winds closer to the shore. If you have the time, keep your phone or camera ready for still more stunning views of the shore and rock outcroppings jutting out of the lake’s surface.
The Lakeshore Trail eventually joins the Peavine, which gives you a wide, straight path down the rest of the eastern shore, a great way to cool down from your adventure.

Maple bacon Coffee Cake
An old family recipe and a favorite of our patrons, the secret to the incredible flavor is, you guessed it, bacon! It provides a salty flavor to balance the sweet in this traditional style coffee cake. Baked in house weekly!
Home Cooking from the Heart
Nana’s has been delighting clientele with their diner style atmosphere and home-cooked meals for more than a year now.
The restaurant was formerly Café 10, which new owners Jamaal and Rhona McCoy purchased in August 2021. Since the McCoys were fans of Café 10’s menu, Nana’s continues to serve many old favorites, including fresh-baked cinnamon buns.
Nana’s updated menu also features such new dishes as lemon ricotta pancakes, eggs Benedict, country biscuits and gravy, Nana’s sandwich melts, buffalo chicken wrap and clam chowder.
Nana’s interior offers a rustic farmhouse décor with light wall colors and lighting for an inviting ambiance.
“Those wonderful dishes our
grandmas made were the inspiration for Nana’s,” owner Jamaal McCoy says. Highlights of Nana’s menu are dishes handed down from the owners’ grandmothers, including old-fashioned sticky buns, homemade bread and soups, and fresh rhubarb pie.
Additional menu ideas came from customers.
After the McCoys purchased Café 10, they spent time talking with the restaurant’s guests to learn which dishes they most enjoyed and what new items they’d like to see added to the menu. McCoy said creating Nana’s has also been a family affair with Rhona McCoy handling staffing and daily operations and the couple’s 14-year-old daughter, Naya, making menu suggestions.
“Naya felt the menu should have
more sweets,” says McCoy with a chuckle. “She was right! Our new bacon maple coffee cake, pecan pie, carrot cake, cherry cobbler, and gluten-free desserts have been very popular. We bake something fresh all the time, so our desserts change often. We can even do pies for your holiday gathering.”
The restaurant serves breakfast and lunch, six days a week, Wednesday through Monday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“We love Prescott,” McCoy says. “We felt one way we could contribute to the city was by providing more places where people can gather to enjoy great food and company.”
The McCoy’s other restaurants under their company Krave Restaurant Group include Barbudos Mexican Grill & Cantina, Vibes Juice Bar and Lucy Dee’s BBQ.

Sharlot Hall’s words are as true today as they were 100 years ago. That is why the Sharlot Hall Museum is dedicated to bringing you that knowledge in an interesting, interactive, and fun way.
From school groups and families to researchers and journalists, we are devoted to preserving and presenting Arizona’s story. We are embracing innovative ways of documenting the stories of our community, as well as making more of our40,000 objects and huge archival collections accessible through exhibits, programming, and online platforms.
While we adhere to Sharlot’s goal to “make one dollar do the work of ten,” these efforts are expensive. Your gift will keep the Sharlot Hall Museum healthy and serving our great community. 415

Prescott, AZ – November 7, 2022 –Although homes are spending longer on the market sales prices remain strong in the Quad Cities, according to the housing report released today by the Prescott Area Association of REALTORS® (PAAR).
Prescott led the region with a median sold price of $595,000 in the month of October, a double-digit increase over the $525,000 recorded in that area last year. Prescott Valley also saw a doubledigit increase with a median sold price of $440,000. Chino Valley and DeweyHumboldt also saw their median monthly sold price rise since October 2021, coming in at $385,000 and $410,000 respectively.
The continued rise in median sold prices is paired with the recent uptick in active inventory, with increases registering in the triple digits in most regions. Prescott Valley led October with a 23.5% increase in active inventory,
while Chino Valley posted the greatest increase in months of inventory since this time last year with a 388.9% increase overall. Dewey-Humboldt was the exception, with a 36.2% increase in active inventory since October 2021.
Historically, fluctuations in the market have followed this pattern before. In 2016, Chief Economist for the National Association of REALTORS® Dr. Lawrence Yun reported concerns about a national housing shortage and its connection to rising home prices.
“Using a local REALTOR® is the wisest course of action for anyone looking to buy, sell, or rent property right now,” said George Beitzel, 2022 PAAR President.
“The Quad Cities overall remains a healthy and competitive market for real estate,” Beitzel added. “You wouldn’t ask your dentist to represent you in court; you shouldn’t ask someone
not bound by our code of ethics to help you with a decision as important as your home. Your REALTOR® has the training, resources, and support to represent your best interests.”
The 449 homes listed for sale in the Quad Cities region at the end of October reflect a 4.5% drop since this time last year.
The detailed reports are available here: https://dashboards.domusanalytics. com/v/PrescottInfographic and https://dashboards.domusanalytics. com/v/PrescottInfographicArea
Editor’s Note: All data is compiled from the Multiple Listing Service of the Prescott Area Association of REALTORS®and includes single-family, manufactured, mobile, modular, condos, and townhouse residential activity in Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, and Dewey-Humboldt.
