ASK JUDY YOUR REAL ESTATE QUESTIONS Dear Judy: I bought a house that had a trampoline in the neighbor’s back yard. I was told by the sellers that it was “rarely used.” The two times we were at our new house (we are out of state buyers), we never saw or heard any kids on the trampoline. Well now we have moved in and the kids next door (and all of their friends) are jumping up and down all weekend and some evenings. They have bright flood lights that shine on the trampoline! It is a bit disconcerting to see children’s heads popping up and down over the wall, as my husband and I try and sit and enjoy a quiet evening on the patio. It is a nuisance – and we like kids. I feel the sellers lied to us. Certainly, they had to know the trampoline was used often and caused a noise problem. I feel like I want to move! What recourse do I have?

~ Mad in Prescott Valley Dear Mad: Yes, the noise and jumping of little kids can be a bit jarring if you are trying to have a “quiet evening” on your patio. Maybe the sellers knew about the activity, maybe they didn’t. Also, perhaps the trampoline never bothered them. You have purchased the home and I suggest talking to the neighbors in a friendly manner and ask them to possibly limit evening “jump times.” The sellers are pretty much out of the loop, as it would be hard to prove exactly what they knew and if they felt it was a nuisance. Good luck and hopefully you will become friends with your neighbors and come to a solution to help you love your home.

Best Seafood Murphy’s

Murphy’s historic landmark building was a mercantile and general store in the 1890s. Back then, owner J.L. Gardner promised, “All Goods Guaranteed to be First Class.” Today, Murphy’s Restaurant continues this legacy of quality, serving only the finest, chef-prepared dishes. Enjoy sophisticated lunches, delectable dinners and relaxing Sunday brunches in an elegant, historic setting. In keeping with the original structure’s purpose, we’ve added charming antiques throughout the space. Take a seat at our gorgeous, century-old mahogany bar for our daily happy hour. Murphy’s is the go to place in Prescott for the freshest seafood entrees from King Crab to Fresh Atlantic Salmon. Murphy’s is also the place for your special occasions, from anniversaries to birthday gatherings. Reserve one of our two private meeting rooms for your private party. Or celebrate with your guests in our special mezzanine area that overlooks the restaurant. Animal Rescue (small) United Animal Friends

Fox and Bear

One of the first things you’ll notice when you walk in the front door is that we are a true family owned and operated business, led by a husband and wife duo. Husband is a 7th generation Arizonan and wife is a Northern California native. Both have a long bloodline of entrepreneurs in the family. We sell new and bear-ly used children’s clothing sizes NB-16, maternity, baby equipment, toys and accessories. Your one-stop baby shop!

United Animal Friends (UAF) is an all-volunteer, 501(c) (3) nonprofit animal rescue organization. Since 2003, UAF has rescued and found forever homes for approximately 6,000 animals; helped pay for spaying/neutering of over 19,000 cats and dogs; distributed over 360,000 pounds of pet food to people who otherwise couldn’t afford to feed their animals; and paid for emergency vet services for almost 900 pets of low-income households. Because UAF is an all-volunteer, foster-based organization with no physical facility, around 90% of revenues go directly to support programs. UAF offers many volunteer opportunities, and our volunteers love what they do. Whether you are interested in volunteering from your home answering phone inquiries, fostering, walking dogs, handling cats or dogs at adoption events or helping hand out food at our monthly Pet Food Bank, UAF may have the perfect and perfectly rewarding job for you.

John Hancock Barbershop

Prescott Outpatient Surgical Center

A signature grooming experience for the modern man. Founded in November 2014, John Hancock Barbershop is the brainchild of Prescott’s own Grant Quezada. Grant has been cutting hair for over 14 years. He started off as a hairdresser in a top salon in Springfield, Missouri. Three years later he found himself looking for some more excitement and decided to enlist in the Army, spending eight years serving his country. After getting out in the summer of 2014, he completed extended male barbering training and obtained his barber license. Grant, his wife and two sons and daughter moved back to their hometown of Prescott in fall of 2014 with the vision of opening the best barbershop in town.

Prescott Outpatient Surgical Center (POSC) is a freestanding surgical facility dedicated to a broad range of surgical procedures. Our focus is on each individual patient. Celebrate Frontier Christmas Again with Sharlot Hall by Ken Leja, Media & Marketing Manager, Sharlot Hall Museum What were the challenges trying to celebrate the Christmas holidays on the frontier of Arizona more than 100 years ago? Was roasting a turkey on an open fire really the way to create a Victorian dinner, with all the fixin’s alongside a tent, lean-to or shanty of the 1860s? Discover how settlers of Territorial Arizona celebrated the holiday spirit at Frontier Christmas, a perennial event at Sharlot Hall Museum. The event will be Saturday, December 5, and its program has been modified to accommodate these pandemic times. Instead of a nighttime event following the tree-lighting ceremony at the Courthouse Plaza, festivities will be held throughout the day, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. These include interactive craft stations for children and adults, Living History interpreters sharing stories of olden days, and a themed scavenger hunt with Christmas-related objects throughout the 4-acre downtown campus. In prioritizing the health and safety of visitors, volunteers and staff, the museum has revised its program from the late-evening to an all-day funfest of activities – anticipating warmer weather versus nighttime cold. To accommodate social distancing, attendees should plan to reserve tickets ahead of time, as visitor numbers will be

limited. Instead of the normal daily admission fee, tickets to “Frontier Christmas” are only $5 per adult, with museum members and youth 17 years and younger free. Tickets may be reserved by calling 928445-3122 ext. 0. The museum is located at 415 W. Gurley St., two blocks west of the Courthouse Plaza, in downtown Prescott. Timed entry will facilitate admissions, with advance tickets available for hourly admittance beginning at 10 a.m. through 3 p.m. Book in advance and enter during that hourlong period. Walk-ups will not be guaranteed admission as we wish to maintain campus-wide (and activity) social distancing. Mask-wearing is required in all public spaces. Period ambiance will continue to delight seasoned holiday visitors in Prescott, a community known since 1989 as Arizona’s “Christmas City.” Sharlot Hall Museum’s gift to visitors and locals alike during “Frontier Christmas” includes a wonderful array of entertainment and holiday fare to immerse you in the holiday spirit. An old-fashioned Christmas tree, turn-of-the-century toys and holiday decorations will be part of the season’s ambiance, as costumed interpreters share stories of Christmas past in the museum’s historic buildings.

Celebrating Christmas was just becoming popular in the 1860s, and most decorations were handmade, even on the East Coast. In Prescott, decorations consisted mostly of handmade presents for the children of the few families living in the area. Discover printed treasures and old-fashioned holiday greeting cards at the historic print shop. Be sure to get a limited-edition holiday print or Frontier Christmas tree ornament. Holiday shopping is available in the Victorian Bashford House and Museum Store, with holiday kits available (while they last) of the day’s craft activities and “A Governor’s Mansion Christmas” keepsake booklet. It’s the 25th annual Frontier Christmas celebration at Sharlot Hall Museum, with a daylong flair. Soak up the historical flavor that was the Christmas of our pioneer forefathers – all at the museum where the past is waiting.
