Robot to Join the Fight Against Cancer

Having shortness of breath and coughing a lot? You may need to see a pulmonary physician. Banner MD Anderson has a good team of Interventional Pulmonologists who are at the forefront of managing patients with new procedures and treatments, if indicated. If you need a biopsy, physicians might not find anything, although why wait to find out if it is something? Lung cancer is the #1 killer and can strike anyone at any time.

How do I know? My name is SCOPY, soon to be the newest member of the medical team at Banner Boswell Medical Center, thanks to community support. Rather than scrubs, my attire consists of scopes, cameras, and many other components of my diagnostic technology for lung cancer.

You see, I’m a robot. Specifically, I’m a robotic bronchoscopy platform, one of only two in Arizona, and located right here at one of the finest medical centers in Arizona. I’ve been told my technology is groundbreaking because difficult to reach locations in the lungs can now be reached and biopsies can be performed.

No need to worry. I don’t run on my own; I’m not a TESLA. I’m controlled and navigated by skilled physicians. They have a controller that gives them precise movement to drive me through the small areas of your lungs. My small cameras enter the body, allowing access to various parts of your lungs. My advanced technology allows access and biopsy of lung nodules in hard-to-reach-places to prove if it is a cancer. These nodules reside in deep and small places, which otherwise can make it tough for physicians to conduct a biopsy successfully.

The physicians say they’d like to take a deeper look in your lungs and take some biopsies. I’m designed for complex biopsies and biopsies of smaller tumors. I’ll see you in the Endoscopy Suite at Banner Boswell. Rest assured, the generosity of others is making possible the most advanced technology for you, close to home.

My robotic technology is an integral part of the Generosity for Generations Campaign’s $6 million Advanced Technology for CancerFighting Treatment and Care initiative. Investments from the community are continuing to ensure superior healthcare technology is always available for you and your loved ones. I’m here for you, because of you.
