2. What Is Whole brain education? Whole brain education is about helping children to develop “both sides of the brain”.

Ever since the pioneering research by Dr Roger Sperry, concerning the functional specialization of the cerebral hemispheres for which he received The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1981, we have known that the two hemispheres of the brain are highly specialized and also that many higher functions are centered in the right hemisphere.

At the same time Dr Sperry’s research was published, another pioneer in early childhood education, Dr Makoto Shichida of Japan was investigating the marvellous abilities of children. A very good review of his work and techniques can be read here

According to Professor Shichida every child between the ages of zero to three years old, is a genius. This is because, the child is able to absorb or accept information at an amazing rate.

When you want to raise your children differently and effectively, you must understand how the infant's brain works between ages zero to three years old.

The most important thing in the beginning of a newborn child’s education is language, especially vocabulary. The use of flash cards as a tool is very important. Flash the cards to your child at a fast speed and they will learn with lightning speed.

The right brain functions at a high speed, whereas the left brain function at a low speed. Both sides of the brain function very differently. So when you input a lot of inf ormation at a very f ast speed, that is when you activate the right brain.

In Shichida classes, flash cards are not only used as tools. There are other activities such as ESP games, image eye play, eye exercises, memory games, picture flash cards, singing and dancing, story books, playing cards and others are used.
