The final project of my representative studies focused on creating a scene from a base image, a form of public space both in the day and night. After designing the space, students were instructed to model it. I emphasized designing with the green space from the source image, using circulation to frame the space. The first conceptual renderings used the green space to separate pedestrian traffic, framing it in an urban setting.

NIGHTLIFE STROLL
Approaching the final concept, my next set of renderings further emphasized the green space. I decided to design a space I am exposed to regularly. This led these renderings to emulate the look of a university campus.

My final renders followed the concept of an open public space which utilized the natural landscape provided in the base image, framed by the pathways allowing for user interaction.
NOSTALGIA [DAY] 04
I designed my image around a community centre and the public space it occupies. The concept was based on the neighbourhood I grew up in where I would often go to the community centre for various programs and as a social space.

Given four walls, students were asked to create seven spaces. The walls could only be edited to include openings for passage and the spaces must fit a spatial size. Deconstructing the idea of a space, I concluded to make several passage ways to act as my spaces.

Inspired by the Labyrinth at Knossos, my form utilized the void from the overall perimeter alongside my passages to enhancing the feeling of being lost, blending the four walls into the labyrinth.

Study In Form: Unit Metamorphosis
ARC201 - How to Design Nothing 02/05/2015 - 04/02/2015
studio 10
Students were required to create a single form multiplied three times and linked together by a series of stairs or ramps. The formation of these units must be bounded within a given volume and create three levels. Two formations were required, one that focused on keeping the units identical and one that required each unit be modified. I approached this project as an opportunity to create a unit which could benefit from repetition. What I found particularly interesting was a unit that could exhibit three levels of height by rotation. My concept was that the units serve a combined effort in providing an expansive view the higher one climbed.

Trinity Community Recreation Centre

studio 14
This project asked students to redevelop the Trinity Community Recreation Centre. Relocating the building from the Southwest corner to the heart of the park. Many existing park programs are located to its West side while the open field space is located at the center. The proposed new lot will come into direct contact with these existing conditions.

While discovering the form, I wanted people to engage in my building much like how they would engage in the park. This led me to design terrace spaces and accessible ramps onto my building while the interior featured many large windows to overlook the park.

The second level is primarily terrace space for park goers except for the two meeting rooms. The meeting rooms were placed at the highest level to get away from the louder programs of the building.

PROPOSED SITE PLAN In small groups students were asked to redevelop the Bloor GO Station as the final undergraduate project. The existing station is considered to be inconvenient and disconnected from Dundas West TTC Station and the Junction Triangle. Many find the station to be awkwardly situated and uncomfortable. The redesign asked students to include a large public market, refugee housing centre and other programs students found appropriate. For the purposes of our project, we petitioned for a different lot to address several issues we discovered in the site. We were granted this added lot so long as we conducted the necessary studies to justify it. My particular interests for this project was developing the landscape and the form of our station. I also conducted the housing studies and how people would navigate through our station.

Approaching this project, my group and I wanted our station to address other issues surrounding the site. We discovered that the area lacked an easily accessible library, exercise facility, recreation centre and with the exception of High Park, there available open green spaces were restrictive and small.

Utilizing the site to its full potential, we decided to incorporate available real estate to house refugees. Rather than have housing in our station, we believe refugees would be feel more comfortable as part of the Junction Triangle community. Over time, more residential units can be appropriated for refugee use.

FORM METAMORPHOSIS THROUGH PROGRAM PLACEMENT
We wanted the form of the station to be iconic and imposing but rational. With a bridge-like form, extending perpendicular from the train tracks, our station becomes the connection point between the two halves of the Junction Triangle. This allowed our design to incorporate the existing Bloor GO Station which runs along the track.

competition 36
As part of a 24 hour hackathon challenge, teams were asked to develop an idea as far as possible within a day. HackerNest’s theme for this year’s challenge was health, fitness and nutrition. The idea my friends and I came up with was an augmented reality application that could read QR codes and display a 1 : 1 scale model of food with its nutritional information. The idea came from a shared experience when the food we ordered at a restaurant was not what we expected. My role in the team was to develop the scale models of food. We chose a sushi restaurant as the basis for our project since there was a flyer at the HackerNest venue. This was my first experience with 3D modeling software, where I was forced to learn quite a lot in a day. QR CODE FOR SUSHI DISH (INACTIVE)

CRESTWOOD, EDMONTON SITE PLAN
LOT SIZE OF DESIGN The Edmonton Infill Project focuses on evolving the urban form of Edmonton, Alberta while staying true to the city’s identity. Edmonton is expecting a population boom in the next decade and the city hopes to meet the demands of a metropolitan area. Emphasizing livability, climate sensitivity and context adaptability.

FORM DISCOVERY SKETCHES
FIRST FORM SKETCH
SCALE 1:250
The concept was based off having one circulatory path that had users travel throughout the house’s social spaces like the living room to reach other spaces. With a set of stairs wrapped around the chimney as an alternative route between floors. The form was based off an oil pump, harkening back to the Edmonton Oil Boom in the 1950s when the city experienced its first massive population jump and the time period where Crestwood formed its identity and a majority of its development.
