Jean-Paul Perle takes out Mr Australia title in under-65kg
t Clair resident Jean-Paul Perle has taken out the Mr Australia title in the under-65kg category in both the Australian National Bodybuilding Championships and International Federation of Bodybuilding Australian championships after a gruelling 16-week training and diet regime. The Mauritius-born 33-year-old beat defending champion Christian Higay to win the titles on October 18 and 19 at Sydney Showgrounds. He said he won both the ANB (drug-tested) and IFBB (non-drug-tested) competitions without taking any substances. While he has competed at the national level three years in a row, he has slowly improved. He was placed fifth the first year, then third the next. Each competition was a learning curve and Mr Perle said confidence played a big role. “When you’re nervous you don’t do your poses properly.” This year, Mr Perle defeated at least nine other finalists, to claim the top spot. To get into shape, Mr Perle had a strict 16-week diet. The first four weeks focused on “bulking” or putting on weight by eating about 6000 calories a day of mainly chicken breast, veal

mince, white potato and rice. The next 12 weeks were dedicated to “cutting and carving”. He cut down the calories to “carve” his body into the shape he wanted. ”The exercises don’t change. I train about six days
a week, for about an hour and a half a day.” Mr Perle, who is an architectural drafter by day, said he had always enjoyed going to the gym and eating clean but decided to turn it into a profession.
