A Natural Touch

Sleeping in late on the weekends feels pretty darn good, especially after a hectic week. Sure, weekends present the opportunity to pay back our sleep debt, but there is no cheating at sleep! One long night’s sleep is not enough to maintain healthy sleep habits. The key is establishing actionable practices that can be replicated nightly and aid in establishing a more consistent sleep schedule.

Here are some bedtime rituals that will pay off during your sleep journey. By taking some precious moments to come down from the day, you can greatly improve your mood and energy for the long haul.

ritual

Have a hygiene ritual before bedtime to signal your psychological senses that your body is ready for sleep. This can include washing your face or engaging in a skin care regimen. You may also find it effective to light a candle (be sure to blow it out before falling asleep). Practicing mindful meditation or listening to calming music are other actions that will help you unwind and fall asleep.

reflect

This is your time, and it is about you and only you! Ask yourself reflective questions like, “What good have I done today?” Keep a gratitude journal to self-talk and write about the things or people you are grateful for, and how you can make tomorrow amazing. Not only is this an easy way to let the day flow off of you, but it’s also beneficial to remember what you’re thankful for.
