Over 200 members (and growing). A place for friendship, community, support and a good ol’ laugh. More activities than we can list. Tucked away at the back of the Coolum Eco Industrial Park.
After the world celebrated International Women’s Day this month, now is the perfect time to talk about the Coolum Women’s Shed.
I sat down with the president Georgia Partridge and some of the amazing members to have a chat about the Women’s Shed and what goes on there....
Following on from the success of the Men’s Shed, the Women’s Shed opened its doors in January 2019 with the goal of creating a welcoming community environment where members can share knowledge and companionship.
With 7 members on the committee and 12 volunteers, there’s no lack of activities for members to participate in a judgement-free environment.
Yoga, sewing, crocheting, mahjong, label/cricut machine creations, monthly lunches, trivia, book club, walking group, social group, art group, French group, evenings out, the list goes on and on….. and there’s more added regularly!
There’s even joint activities with the Men’s Shed such as the jazz music group and the camera group.
There’s no “typical” member. With ages ranging from 40 to over 80, many of the members are recently retired, widowed or just looking for a great group of likeminded people to spend time with.
With nearly double the member count of the Men’s Shed, there’s no signs of this great cause slowing down.
