“I’ve got shadows … let’s start with that shall we … let’s start with my shadows and see what comes out.”
Through a series of monologues Craig Conway’s astonishing one-man performance charts his character’s remarkable journey through traumatic abuse, self-discovery and ultimately redemption. The play’s director, Nick Bagnall, says: “Fragile is challenging and dangerous as well as being extraordinary in its poetry and theatricality. As a new play it deals with a domestic situation in epic proportions. Geoff is an incredible writer and being a Coventry lad, it makes perfect sense to do Fragile here at the Belgrade.” Geoff Thompson’s acclaimed writing includes screenplays for the BAFTA nominated Bouncer starring Ray Winstone, BAFTA winner Brown Paper Bag, full length feature films Clubbed and Romans 12:20 starring Craig Conway. He has also written the best-selling book Watch My Back.

A crooked bookie and his two accomplices devise a cunning plan to get rich quick, to kidnap the odds-on favourite horse and replace it with their own decrepit nag. But Honest Alf, Flash Harry and Fred find more hurdles than they bargained for on their way to the final post - a comatose horse, a blossoming love affair, a bewildered French jockey and chaos reigning under the roof of the eccentric Colonel Wagstaff and his wife. Listed in the National Theatre’s top 100 plays, Dry Rot was first performed in 1954 and ran for more than three years in the West End. Written by John Chapman, who wrote over 200 TV comedies, including the Emmy award-winning Fresh Fields, Happy Ever After and The Liver Birds, this hilarious farce is one of the finest examples of its genre.
The story follows the highs and lows, passions and heartbreak of Ike and Tina as their careers soared and their marriage crumbled. Starring Emi Wokoma as Tina Turner, Soul Sister is full of heart and soul, electrifying choreography and stunning musical numbers. The show has been revered by critics and audiences alike and is sure to have you partying the night away.

The Belgrade Theatre presents
“One of the great American family dramas.” The Dark at the Top of the Stairs stands shoulder to shoulder with the work of other towering 20th Century playwrights like Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller and Chekhov who brilliantly evoke characters caught between two worlds. The play is set among the wide open spaces and never-ending skies of Oklahoma in the early 1920s – a time, like today, of great change. The oil boom turned people into millionaires overnight, and others into paupers. Instead of the quietly ambling horse and carriage, the country’s dry, dusty roads were busy with the blare and bustle of shiny new automobiles, while oil derricks crashed through the landscape. The Flood family is disintegrating: Rubin, a travelling salesman selling horse harnesses, Cora his sensitive wife, Lottie her nouveau riche sister, Sonny their Hollywood-obsessed little boy and Reenie their painfully shy teenage daughter. Like America at the time, each one of them is forced to face their fears and accept that the world as they know it is changing forever. Written by William Inge, who dedicated the play to his friend, rival and contemporary Tennessee Williams, The Dark at the Top of the Stairs won the Tony Award for Best Play in 1957 and was made into a successful film in 1960 with Angela Lansbury. It has not been seen in England for over a generation. This drama will be directed by director and writer Lisa Forrell who also teaches a regular course on American drama at the Actors Centre, London.

Thurs 8 – Sat 10 Nov “This isn’t just Shakespeare – this is rock and roll.” Daily Express In a quest to understand the nature of truth itself, Twelfth Night tells a twisted tale of mistaken identity, transformation and deception. Community & Education
Fridays: 28 Sept, 26 Oct, 23 Nov 2012 & 25 Jan 2013 Each month the compere introduces three different top acts from the London circuit, usually Comedy Store regulars. Now established for over 10 years, Barnstormers Comedy has had numerous superb comedians grace its stages, including Sarah Millican, Andi Osho, Greg Davies, Andrew Lawrence, Andy Parsons, Felix Dexter, Jim Tavare, Jo Caulfield, Lucy Porter and Patrick Monahan. This is the perfect way to start the weekend. Due to their bawdy tone, the shows may not be suitable for those of a sensitive nature. Over 18s only, unless accompanied by a responsible adult. Evenings: 10.30pm
Building on its national reputation as the home of Theatre in Education (TiE), the Belgrade Theatre runs a year-round programme of dramarelated activities for young people and the wider community. Participants develop skills in devising, writing and acting and are supported to create and put on productions that reflect the experiences of young people and the local community, with a particular focus on marginalised groups. The current programme includes youth theatre groups; an over 50s group; Acting Out, a two year work-related learning programme recognised nationally as a model of best practice; The New Black, a programme targeting the city’s newest arrivals; and a schools programme.
Offstage Choices The Belgrade Theatre will be running an Offstage Choices event with the theatre opening its doors to young people on Fri 9 Nov, to find out about employment in the theatre industry and take part in hands-on workshops and taster sessions. Session: 10am – 2.30pm. For more information please visit the website www.belgrade.co.uk.
