Sat 29 Jan – Sat 19 Feb Coventry. 1979. A city of strife in the factories and violence on the streets. It’s hard being 16 – but something’s stirring in the garages and living rooms of the city. Music offers a way out for spiky Gary – a fish out of water on the Canley Park estate – posh boy Nick and cheeky Sonia, whose Asian parents think she’s doing after-school drama… Tension is building between Gary and his brother and father – both track workers at the car plant. But as industrial relations reach boiling point and Gary’s band takes its first few tentative steps, an act of shocking violence propels Nick, Sonya and Gary’s family towards a decision that will change their lives forever.

Tues 8 – Sat 12 Feb Following a successful run of Richard III, internationally acclaimed all-male company, Propeller, return with two Shakespeare classics. Led by Director Edward Hall, Propeller is renowned for engaging its audience’s imagination and bringing fresh understanding to classic plays. It’s Shakespeare rediscovered. The Comedy of Errors is Shakespeare’s most farcical comedy, and also his smartest. Two sets of estranged twins, separated at birth, find themselves in the same city 25 years later with hilarious consequences. A series of mistaken identities, assumed personas, and wild mishaps bring a family crisis - so complicated that time itself loses the plot - into heart warming focus. Fortunately the audience is always one step ahead… In complete contrast, Richard III brings the War of the Roses cycle of history plays to a close in bloody fashion. Arguably Shakespeare’s most villainous King, we watch in horror and delight as Richard murders his way to the throne, unable to resist his cruel wit and dark humour. This is a hugely entertaining and diabolical adventure that tells the story of one man’s journey to heaven, then back to hell.

Sat 5 – Sat 26 March Auntie-ji - noun. a term sometimes used to address women older than oneself. Ji is traditionally used after someone’s name to show respect, mainly by the communities of the Indian sub-continent. Somewhere in this city live three elderly, South Asian auntijies who have found themselves together in a house, empty of memories. Nearby, a new Indian bride has arrived in the country only to find herself in a place that she is utterly unprepared for. The Usual Auntijies is a bitter-sweet new comic-drama that visits the lives of four women as they embark on an inspiring, emotional and comic journey to overcome the past and rediscover their sense of life, love and happiness. If you laughed and cried along with Shirley Valentine and Calendar Girls you will love The Usual Auntijies - a celebration of all women of a particular age whose desires and struggles are too often forgotten. Radio broadcaster and writer, Jasvir Kang will be reading a collection of her poems in Punjabi pre-show in B2 on Weds 9 March at 6.30pm and Weds 16 & 23 March at 7.30pm. Bill Kenwright presents
The Belgrade Theatre in co-production with Arcola Theatre present
By Anton Chekhov. In a new version by Helena Kaut-Howson and Jon Strickland.
“The Greatest Musical of the Decade” International Herald Tribune
Mon 21 March – Sat 2 April
Sat 2 – Sat 23 April
Written by Willy Russell, the legendary Blood Brothers tells the captivating and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with tragic consequences.
When a retired celebrity and his beautiful young wife return to their country estate, the humdrum lives of everyone around them are turned upside down for ever.
Starring X Factor’s Niki Evans as Mrs Johnstone, the superb score includes classic songs Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True.
This brand-new production offers a fresh approach to Chekhov’s masterpiece – a tragicomic, poignant story of disillusionment and misplaced love, of thwarted passion and enduring hope.
Few musicals have received quite such acclaim as the multi-award winning Blood Brothers, and Bill Kenwright’s production, having recently celebrated its 21st phenomenal year in London, continues to enjoy standing ovations at every devastating performance.
Designed by Sophie Jump and with a haunting sound score, Uncle Vanya will be directed by the internationally acclaimed Helena Kaut-Howson who is known for her sensual and innovative treatment of classical drama. Jon Strickland as Vanya and Simon Gregor as Astrov lead the cast.
No wonder Blood Brothers is now ‘The musical for all time’.
“ Devastating. A masterpiece. If you haven’t seen it go, if you have, go again.” News of the World

An evening of entertainment packed with Bollywood and traditional folk songs, bhangra & raas garba dancing, colourful costumes, and short plays on issues facing South Asian Communities. Enjoy an evening of performances by local artists in the Sahara Arts Mela 2011.
The World’s Greatest Michael Jackson Experience is a fitting and explosive tribute to the undisputed King of Pop starring Nick Hayne with his live band and incredible dancers. Reminiscent of and loyal to the King of Pop’s sensational world tours, the show displays a true representation of Michael Jackson in his prime - the dynamite performer and showman. Starring the UK’s leading and most authentic Jackson tribute artist, Nick Hayne, who after 15 years of live performances, is undoubtedly one of the world’s greatest MJ tribute artists. The likeness in his voice and the energy and precision in his moves is simply uncanny. The show features a host of Jackson’s greatest hits spanning his entire career. The Word’s Greatest Michael Jackson Experience is a fantastic evening’s entertainment for all ages and will leave you in no doubt as to why Michael Jackson will always be remembered as The King of Pop.
