The Silver Sword is a heart-warming tale of three children whose determination to become a family again, takes them on an incredible adventure to find their father against all the odds. Named by The Times as one of the top 50 children’s books of all time, The Silver Sword is set in Poland in the immediate aftermath of wwII and follows the balicki children’s search for safety as europe is divided up and displaced people return to their homelands. along the way, ruth, edek and bronia meet 14 year old Jan - a boy who, years before, had met their father by chance and been given the family's precious paper knife, affectionately known as the Silver Sword. Jan's instructions are to show it to the children, should their paths cross, with the message that their father is still alive and headed for Switzerland. during their adventures they cross paths with people from every nation as well as animals such as Jimpy the cockerel, bistro the chimpanzee and ludwig the dog. This brand new musical adaptation of The Silver Sword is full of warmth, music and excitement, and is brought to life by a cast of wonderful actor/musicians, featuring amazing puppetry and stunning visual projections.

Main Story tonight
Fri 9 & Sat 10 Oct Our Main Story Tonight is a brand new play inspired by whatever major story is dominating the news that week. working much like a newsroom on a tight deadline, the play will be written and rehearsed in the five days leading up to the show and could be about anything - but whatever it is, it’ll be current, topical, and will be dealing with the things everyone is talking about at home, at work, or round the water cooler.
Auditorium: b2
Our Main Story Tonight will also be looking to connect that story with something in the city of coventry, so if there’s a link to our home town, the play will be trying to find it. we hope you’ll come and join us on this adventure. Sheriff is run by Nick walker, writer of the b2 christmas show Oh No It Isn’t, the forthcoming Vampomime and the ’87 Fa cup show We Love You City.

Inspiring Curiosity October Festival of Theatre for Children and young People 2015 sees the 50th anniversary of our establishment of the first ever Theatre in education (Tie) company. To mark this anniversary we’ve programmed a year of events to celebrate theatre made by and for young people, and to promote the importance of drama and theatre in their lives. Following our Inspiring curiosity: In our own words festival in July, we’re hosting another festival this october comprising some of the best professional theatre for children and young people, made by companies from right across the uk. details of all the shows can be found over the following pages. Not only will we be presenting professional theatre for young audiences here at the belgrade, we’re also programming performances from six Theatre in education companies to take place in schools across coventry. These participatory events are for audiences ranging from 3-18 years old, and run from 19-23 october. For schools booking information please contact claire Procter at cprocter@belgrade.co.uk. Inspiring Curiosity Conference on 21 & 22 october we will also be hosting a two day conference in partnership with coventry university and the university of warwick, coventry city council, the royal Shakespeare company, warwick arts centre and big brum. The event will include a range of activities, workshops and discussions with leading regional, national and internationally renowned artists and companies.
drama has been increasingly marginalised within the school curriculum as a non-essential subject. we believe that a good education needs to provide a balance between taught facts, and being provided with the opportunity to explore and learn for oneself. drama is an essential way for children to reflect on and understand the world in which they live. Find out more and join the campaign at www.inspiringcuriosity.co.uk 13

based on rattigan’s experiences as a tail gunner during world war II, Flare Path paints an evocative portrait of life in wartime britain for the raF bomber crews, and their wives and sweethearts who were left awaiting their return.
The story combines highly charged drama with a truly authentic taste of the fear, camaraderie and passion experienced by the men and women who fought to save their country, their families and each other.
Set in 1942 against a backdrop of heartache and quiet bravery, Flare Path tells the story of former actress Patricia, the wife of raF pilot Teddy, as their marriage is tested to the limits by the surprise arrival of Patricia’s ex-lover and Hollywood idol Peter kyle.
This brand new production will be directed by rising star Justin audibert (rSc,Young Vic, west Yorkshire Playhouse) and stars Philip Franks (Heartbeat), olivia Hallinan (Lark Rise to Candleford), leon ockenden (Mr Selfridge) and alastair whately (Birdsong) This major revival comes from the producers behind the hit touring production of birdsong.

will beauty get driven batty? will the beast love in vein? will the audience die laughing? whatever happens, a monstrously good time is guaranteed for all!
It’s not easy putting on a pantomime when you’re a theatre company entirely run by vampires. This year’s production of Beauty and the Beast is beset by practical problems they can’t enter the stage until they’ve been invited in and the glare of the lighting is really painful on their eyes. They’re also distracted by an uncontrollable bloodlust for virgins, although they don’t anticipate that being a big problem with coventry audiences.
as ever, the b2 Xmas Show has been created especially for grown-ups so it’s perfect for office parties or anyone who wants to enjoy a christmas night out away from the kids. The show lasts around an hour, so it leaves plenty of time to complete your evening with a few celebratory drinks.

a little learning is a dangerous thing. Following a string of hugely successful classic comedies, the belgrade’s artistic director, Hamish glen, makes a welcome return to the subject of marriage for his latest production, The Sisterhood. Henriette just wants to marry the man she loves. Is that too much to ask? It certainly is for her intellectual mother, aunt and sister - the “learned ladies”, who can’t bear to see Henriette throw her life away. They have a different man in mind for her; a self-proclaimed genius of poetry and the arts. However, her put-upon father will be pushed around no more! He’s determined to support Henriette in her choice of husband, and so the battle lines are drawn...
Auditorium: b2
relocated in time from the 17th century to France during the late 1980s, The Sisterhood is acclaimed playwright and translator, ranjit bolt’s brilliantly funny adaptation of Molière’s classic satire, Les Femmes Savantes. This fast-paced comedy is the perfect antidote to the postchristmas, winter blues.
