“Where do new ideas come from? The answer is simple: differences. Creativity comes from unlikely juxtapositions.” Nicholas Negroponte

I’m a traveler, explorer, multilingual and a designer with a high-end taste. Architecture and design were things that I had affection for since I was a little girl trying to build a doll house from scratch. I’ve always push myself to think outside of the box and walk against the wind. I had the privilege to live in a lot of places and travel around the world to discover the hidden treasures of different cultures. Traveling transformed me to a human being with an unlimited imagination and a designer who’s not afraid of being different and unique.

As a designer, I believe I can influence how people interact and behave in a space. My design goal is to highlight how cultural differences influence our designs, creativity and the way of thinking. My designs are inspired by the simple clean lines of modern architecture combined with natural elements, and the artistic essence of cultures that influenced me. This Portfolio is intended to be a visual journey documenting my designs in the past 4 years that celebrates differences and uniqueness.

PEARL HOTEL

Senior Project/Hospitality Design The unique floating hotel concept combines the high value associated with luxury yachts and a modern hotel located in Lake Tahoe. The name pearl was inspired by the pearl’s value. Pearl Hotel offers the latest innovations in luxury and extravagance, which perfectly compliments the hotel’s warm hospitality and service. While the two concepts of sustainability and luxury may at first seem to conflict, this design combines them by the notion of timelessness.

6

Research

Lake Tahoe is a preferred location for people who want a special get away retreat

The hotel is targeting financially stable people with income between $60,000- $+150,000

7

90% of people visit Lake Tahoe for water sports

80% of 200 respondents wanted an adventure that connects them to water

Out of 4 designers interviewed they found this hotel a destination in summer and winter

Couples are interested in visiting a hotel with a biophilic design

Thesis To research progressive, sustainable, floating buildings and yacht designs. To minimize the environmental impacts of buildings while creating luxurious biophilic design that evokes our deep emotions, and fulfills our sense of affiliation to the environment for a greater connection to nature.

Concept Pearls are mysterious hidden treasures. The pearl Hotel is Lake Tahoe’s precious treasure. A color palette of a fresh early morning on a lake, soft pastels hues and clean lines creates an unforgettable work of art.

Pearl Lobby A high tech hotel lobby with a self serve reception. The reception boat is provided with iPads for self check in/out, while still having the ability to contact with an employee for any service. Sustainability This Sustainable design seeks to reduce negative impacts on the environment, and the health and comfort of building occupants, thereby improving building performance. The basic objectives of sustainability are to reduce consumption of nonrenewable resources, minimize waste, and create healthy, productive environments. A radiant heating system was used as one of the sustainable approaches in the design. It supplies heat directly to the floor through heating cables under the floor finish. It’s an efficient method that eliminates using excessive amount of electricity.

ANTHORPOLOGIE Retail Store

2

ANTHROPOLOGIE

Commercial Design ANTHROPOLOGIE is an American clothing retailer with over 200 stores worldwide. Their headquarter was designed to create a concept that reflects the company’s warmth, and to develop an open floor plan that shows their friendly environment.

18

Concept Fire and sand are juxtaposed elements found in nature and create a harmonious atmosphere that stimulates the work culture. Fire and sand blends with the company’s style and gives a bit of edge while maintaining a modern feel. ANTHROPOLOGIE is a place that builds an emotional bond between customers and nature, making sustainability their priority, for a beautiful, sustainable and functional space.

Key Furniture This workstation is perfect for small and medium offices because it resolves a lot of space. It is located at the production department and clerical support which are the most active departments at the office. The brain shape that the workstation will create is ideal for their working dynamics.

Key Materials The color scheme was inspired from nature to blend with their warm style and give a bit of vibe while maintaining a modern feel. The wood paneling of the branding wall was used to add an earthy feeling that would perfectly balance with the warm colors of fabric.

Reception The reception was intended to focus on ANTHROPOLOGIE’s branding. For that, the space enriches the essence of their retail store by using reclaimed wood, vibrant colors and their paintings.

TWITTER

Commercial Design II Twitter is an Online news and social networking service for users to post and interact with messages, “tweets,” restricted to 140 characters. Registered users can post tweets, but those who are unregistered can only read them. Users access Twitter through its website interface, SMS or a mobile device app. This design complements Twitter’s creativity and environment. This project was collaboratively done with Suzette MCculley.

26

Concept The core principle of Twitter’s office is to provide maximum natural open space. Hence Songbirds are our design concept, each area in the space will have a color that represents one kind of songbirds. As well, throughout the space the logo is used as a playful touch. Twitter is a company that created “tweets”, that revolutionized how we interact through its instant accessibility from every level of the social landscape. The Songbirds concept is an embarrassment of Twitter’s ability to interact with their users.

27

Design Process The focus of this design is to create an engaging creative environment. The design started with creating sketches for potential ideas of iconic elements in the space. A color coded floor plan was created to show the focus spaces. Each color represents a sign that’s related to the space’s activity.

28

@Birdhouse The collaborative space is a place where creativity and ideas come from. It’s where innovative brains work together to solve problems, connect people to make the world a better place. Yellow is the color of mind and intellect. It was chosen to create an optimistic and cheerful environment that enhances courage, motivation and creativity in making decisions.

29

30

@Atrium Twitter is all about connecting people to nature. Nature creates life everyday and so does twitter. They create opportunities every second to make the world a better place. The atrium is a place that gives the sense of belonging and community. The use of color theory and elements of biophilia create energy, charm and joy to the space.

31

32

@Nest The Nest area is a relaxation space for employees to get away, relax or stay the night. Green was used to reflect the feeling of growth, and to renew and restore depleted energy. The space serves as a sanctuary from the stresses of modern living, restoring employees back to a sense of well being.

33

34

@Birdfeeder The break room is a place that employees can enjoy and have a time for themselves to be able to continue their journey of creativity. The use of orange & blue create a contrast that evokes happiness, warmth and stimulation that’s mixed with feelings of calmness and relaxation. The use of high-end commercial furniture and custom furniture will add a sense of innovation that’s connected to the main concept.

CHILDLIFE MONTESSORI SCHOOL

Institutional Design The design and flow of the Montessori classroom creates a learning environment that accommodates choice. You won’t find the customary rows of school desks; children work at tables or on the floor, rolling out mats on which to work and define their work space. There are well-defined spaces for each part of the curriculum, such as Language Arts, Math, and Culture. Each of these areas features shelves or display tables with a variety of inviting materials from which students can choose. Each classroom is uniquely suited to the needs of its students. Montessori school rooms feature low sinks, chairs, and tables; a reading corner with a small couch (or comfy floor cushions); reachable shelves; and child-sized kitchen tools—elements that allow independence and help develop small motor skills.

SANA WOMEN’S HEALTH CLINIC

Medical Design SANA is a holistic women’s clinic located in the trendy Pearl District of Portland, Oregon. This clinic is meant to make going to the doctor a luxurious and relaxing experience. The high end finishes reflect the high quality service the patients will receive. The spaces flow in a way to make the patients choreography a smooth transition into the next step from check in to check out. When we hear words like “spa” or “tranquil” our minds often go to Asian influences. SANA shows the Moroccan twist that can create an equally relaxing environment while still providing modern amenities. This project was collaboratively done with Danielle Lavine, Maria Ritchie and Parker Fleskes.

Moroccan culture paid a special attention to women’s health, we were inspired by the intimate care and the cozy environment they offered to patients. Combining elements of traditional Moroccan medicine with the clean lines of modern architecture, this space will create a luxurious spalike atmosphere.
