King Charles III was announced as RBL’s new Patron in May
We were very pleased to announce that His Majesty took on the role from the late Queen Elizabeth II, who had been Patron for more than 70 years, and who followed George VI and Edward VIII.
The King is an Armed Forces veteran, having served in the Royal Navy, and he comes from a family who have all served. He has a close affinity with the Armed Forces community and has been a long-standing supporter of our work. He attended the RBL’s Festival of Remembrance just days before his 20th birthday in 1968 and joined the charity’s membership as an Honorary Serving Member in 1976 whilst serving in the Royal Navy.
The Legion is incredibly thankful for The King’s ongoing support as our new Patron.
The Royal British Legion is here to help members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, veterans and their families. Our support starts after one day of service and continues through life, long after service has ended.
Every year we also pay respect to, and remember those, who serve, or have served, to defend our democratic freedoms and way of life. We believe Remembrance is for all and unites across faiths, cultures and backgrounds to remember the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community from Britain and the Commonwealth.

Secret Operations
Poppy Brooch

During the Second World War, despite the Geneva Convention’s prohibition on women bearing arms, Winston Churchill’s directive led the SOE (Special Operations Executive) to recruit female agents from 1942 onwards.
After passing vetting, many were placed in the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry as cover for their SOE roles, while others came from the WAAF, ATS, and civilian backgrounds. These courageous women engaged in espionage and reconnaissance behind enemy lines, with many tragically never returning.
This brooch honours their service, and we are proud to share their stories, with help from Beaulieu in the New Forest, where they trained.

Monty Poppy Pin

Inspired by the plans for D-Day that were written on a single scrap of paper, this pin is dedicated to Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery who was commander of the land forces involved in Operation Overlord, the code name for the Battle of Normandy, under the overall command of US General Dwight Eisenhower. His simple D-Day landing battle plans are believed to be what won the war!
This pin’s unique design includes elements of the events of June 1944 – sand from Gold Beach, Normandy, and metal shavings of the landing craft LCT 7074 used at D-Day, now fully restored and on display at The D-Day Story in Portsmouth. We have the absolute honour of sharing four of the surviving veterans’ experiences of D-Day nearly 80 years ago whose stories are included in the leaflet accompanying the pin. At the back of the leaflet, we have included a full list of allied forces who sadly did not come home from this historical day. Lest we forget.

D-Day 80 Poppy Lapel Pin

Inspired by the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Remembrance poppy collection worn at the Cenotaph, this beautiful brooch features five stunning blooming poppies, nestled on a bed of glistening crystalised leaves. Whilst not confirmed by Buckingham Palace, it is thought that Her Majesty’s five poppies represent each service in the 2nd world war: the Army, the Navy, the RAF, the Civil Defence and women and was always worn with great pride.
Whilst we formally remember those who have sacrificed for their country on Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday, Remembrance isn’t limited to these two days.
To recognise the service and sacrifice that our Armed Forces have made over the decades, we remember those who we have lost, but also mark the sacrifices that have been made from everyone, lost, or living.
Every poppy purchased during our Poppy Appeal, and all products bought from the Poppy Shop throughout the year, are truly symbolic and count towards the Royal British Legion fundraising.
Our plastic-free poppy is created from bespoke red and green paper, which has been produced from a blend of renewable fibres from responsible sources, 50 percent of which has been recovered from waste used in the production of coffee cups.
Funded by the Royal British Legion and run by The Drive Project, Recovery Through The Arts is an award-winning arts recovery program for the Armed Forces community. This transformative program, founded by Alice Driver, uses theatre to enhance skills, confidence, and self-awareness for individuals transitioning to civilian life. Join us in celebrating our competition winner, Ian Lloyd, as he contributes his artwork to which features on our range of Recovery Through The Arts products.

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen designs a bespoke pattern for Remembrance 2024.
Taking inspiration from the daring decadence of Art Nouveau and spicing it up with a hint of seventies chic, LLB’s patterns for Remembrance are characteristically indulgent.
Like all Llewelyn-Bowen designs, this pattern started life as an original LLB drawing. His training as a fine artist is evident in the confident lines and bravura colour palette. LLB has also donated the artwork to be used as part of the fundraising initiative.
“I was thrilled and more than a little proud to be asked to create a pattern to be used to support the work of the Royal British Legion. My aim was to design a look that people would get very excited about and enjoy having in their lives.”
