In my art works, I hope to not just express my ideology, but to also connect to the life experience of the viewer, and thus trigger their own individual thoughts and responses to the questions I ask myself. Recently, I have explored what it is to be considered to be an ĘťadultĘź, and what it is that I need to achieve in order to be an adult. As children, we are encouraged and forced to grow up to become adults. Sometimes, when we are not actually ready or want to do this. Often, it is unpredictable as how we will mature, but facing and learning from life choices and challenges, again and again, we eventually come closer to what we want to be. The artist Ruth Asawa, has influenced my practice and, as a result, I have developed a way of constructing numerous clay coils to form my sculptures, which are organic and irregular in shape. These large-scale works symbolizes the human being and body. It has always been important to me, when making, to reveal the touch between the material and myself, as the creator. By building the coils layer - by - layer, this also perfectly reflects the time-spent undertaking this process, and allows me to present the memories of what I have undertaken in the final forms. The works that I have produced, naturally show this meditative experience and process, in the silent moment when there is only clay and myself.

Courage is a flower from heart. We are all grown-up for the first time. We all become adults when we are not ready. It's like a big jar. We carry on collecting those “first times” to form a better self. One day, when the jar is full. A flower from the heart called courage will emerge from the top of the jar. Blooming in everyoneʼs life. I think that's what adult looks like.

How i build my work
By using coils to build with, I can control the shape of the work very well. In the process of setting up the coils, the impressions of my finger prints act as a record of time that I went through in the unfired clay.
