Carleton School: The fight has not been won Letter to the editor
Re: Saving the past for the future I just finished reading the December 2020 edition of the Renfrew-Collingwood Community News. On the first page was an article written by Paul Reid. It mentions the community saving Carleton school. That happened a couple of times with school closure issues bringing the community together. However, in November there was a meeting at the Vancouver School Board where the future of Carleton was mentioned. It included parcelling the land into subdivisions and not reopening the school at all. The fight has not been won and it continues to be an issue. Hopefully the school trustees will go to public meetings instead of letting management make such decisions. Seeing those buildings or green space on a historic tour or even in 10 years is not a given. The buildings have been a large part of the community for well over 100 years. Both the frame building and the brick building are over 110 years old.
