Renfrew-Collingwood artist Carmen Rosen was in Victoria to receive the BC Achievement Community Award on May 10, 2022. The award recognizes British Columbians who build better, stronger and more resilient communities. Carmen is the artistic director of Still Moon Arts Society and the force behind local projects such as the annual Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival (now in its 20th year) , the Beaver Pond(er)ing Lodging living willow project, the Colour Me Local Dye Garden and Dyer’s Guild and Still Creek stewardship (which saw chum salmon return to Still Creek after 80 years). ries of Still Creek Lost and Found was published in 2017. “It was a great honour to receive the award on behalf of all the work we have done together as a community and it was very humbling to be in the company of amazing community advocates from across the province,” Carmen tells RCC News in an email. “It was lovely to be able to share the day with friends and community superstars Henry Lau, Emily Chan and Chitha Manoranjan as well as my mom Sheila Rosen, husband Alex Chisholm and longterm friends and mentors Terry Hunter, Savannah Walling, Susan Gordon and Paula Jardine.”

Some say love is kind. Others are not so sure I don’t know the truth about love. Mother of mine was very kind I suppose love is a summer flower that adorns the garden Now that I am old I ponder my days in search of poetry Much has been written of love. The Romantics come to mind Shakespeare gave us Romeo and Juliet T. S. Eliot offered The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock My father told me countless times that I was a wonderful boy. I loved him I do wonder to myself about hate and the injustice in the world I never planned for old age, but I might say I’m all right
