Get involved in local stewardship of Renfrew Ravine and Still Creek by Emma Warner Chee

Still Moon Arts Society and the Environmental Youth Alliance have received funding from Environment Canada’s Eco-Action Fund for a project called Improving Freshwater in Still Creek. Both organizations will be leading youth and community groups in stewardship activities in Renfrew Ravine and by Still Creek over the next two years. Still Moon Arts will be leading invasive plant removal, native planting and clean-up events with local schools and community groups, as well as hosting some public events. Activities began in January with Windermere Ecology 9 students helping to remove blackberry in Renfrew Ravine. This funding is also supporting Still Moon Arts and the Still Creek Streamkeepers’ educational speaker series. On the 4th Monday every month a speaker will give a presentation related to streams, wildlife, stewardship, water quality, salmon and more. Everyone is welcome to come out to these talks as well as the Still Creek Streamkeepers meetings, which will happen afterward. On Monday, March 23, the topic is Indigenous Perspectives on Habitat Restoration with Dawn Morrison. The event will be at Slocan Community Hall (2750 East 29th Windermere students help with blackberry removal in Renfrew Ravine. Photo courtesy of Still Moon Arts
