PRESIDENT ELECT’S REPORT
Well it was a week of stand-in’s on the head table: I stood in for Brian Figg, Kaye Graves stood in as chair for me, and Brian Doherty stood in for Noel Whitfield as Sergeant. Thank you to Kaye and Brian, and thank you to everyone who attended for going easy on me in my trial run (about a year early) as president.
The meeting started as I confessed that despite being present for hundreds of training opportunities as Hugh, Noel, Andrew, John, Wayne and now Brian successfully presided over meetings, it hadn’t sunk in and I was grateful for President Brian’s notes to me. You’ll all be glad to see President Brian back next week, I’m sure! Zsofi told us about her week, and how she thinks she’s got her school routine sorted out now. Szofi will be away next week on a school excursion, so next week’s program will be a mystery (but hopefully it won’t be by the time next Tuesday rolls around!): you’ll just have to turn up and take pot luck! Guest Speaker – Stan Liacos
Our guest speaker this week has been one of the most visible faces and one of the most articulate voices for the evolution of Bendigo over the past seven years.
Stan Liacos is Bendigo Council’s Director of City Futures. This gives him responsibility for Major Projects, Economic Development, Major Events, Tourism, the Bendigo Art Gallery, the Capital theatre, Bendigo Exhibition Centre at the Showgrounds,
PRESIDENT Brian Figg
SECRETARY Kaye Graves
Guest speaker Stan Liacos and chairman of the day Kaye Graves at Tuesday’s meeting. Bendigo Town Hall and Bendigo Airport.
Stan and I arrived in Bendigo at about the same time, although we first met in Melbourne: I needed a flash venue for a public forum moderated by Lynne Haultain and broadcast on ABC Radio as part of the World Health Promotion Conference, and Stan provided the Edge Theatre in Federation Square.
Before coming to Bendigo, Stan had been the Director of Marketing and Events at Melbourne’s Federation Square; Director of Marketing and Communications for Melbourne Docklands; Director of the Geelong Waterfront Development; and a Project Director for Ford, among other roles. He is active on many community boards, and is the new Deputy Chair of TREASURER Wayne Smith
