FOOTBALL

FANS...

On behalf of the students, faculty, and staff of Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC), welcome to our campus and to another exciting year of Yellowjacket football! This year marks a mile stone for two-year college football in the community. For the past half-century, Yellowjacket football has been strong in Rochester, and I’m excited to see this year’s team continue that tradition! As president of this great institution, I am excited for what the academic year holds for our student-athletes, both on and off the field. RCTC strives to maintain an outstanding athletic program, which includes setting examples of good sportsmanship and providing personal growth opportunities for our student-athletes through both academic performance and team experiences. This is accomplished by living our values of being learner-centered, valuing excellence, respect, teamwork, innovation, and, along the way, a little fun. In addition to our athletic programs, student-athletes on our campus may choose from a variety of other student life activities that make life-long connections and develop leadership and other life skills. So, while on our campus, feel free to tour the entire campus and check out what opportunities await you at RCTC. You’ll be amazed at what you’ll find. If you are thinking about what RCTC holds for you, and want to complete that degree you never started, stop in our Welcome Center and get registered TODAY!

GO YELLOWJACKETS!

2018 FOOTBALL SEASON PROGRAM

YELLOWJACKET FOOTBALL STAFF Head Football Coach—Derrick Hintz began his career with the Yellowjackets in 1995. 2018 marks Coach Hintz’s second stint as head coach of the Yellowjackets. In 2017, coach Hintz served his second stint as the defensive coordinator after coaching the LB’s, OL, coordinating special teams, and serving as head coach in 2011-2012. Coach Hintz has over 45 seasons of coaching experience in high school football, college football, high school wrestling, and high school track and field. Coach Hintz has his Bachelor of Science in Technology Education from UW-Stout, and his master’s (MA) degree in Applied Kinesiology-Sports Science from the University of Minnesota. Coach Hintz teaches Technology Education and Engineering at Byron High School. Last, but certainly not least, Coach Hintz is married to Deb and has a son Matthew who coaches football in the MCAC, and a daughter named Maddeson, a Yellowjacket volleyball player. QB/Offensive Coordinator—Adam Barner comes to the Yellowjackets after spending the past 25 years coaching high school football. Following one year of coaching at his alma mater, St. Olaf College, where he was a four-year starter and letter winner at safety, Coach Barner spent 10 years, the last three as head coach, at NRHEG High School directing the offense. From there, Coach Barner joined the staff of Triton High School, under legendary coach Don Henderson. For the next 15 years, Coach Barner coordinated the offense, developed the scouting reports for upcoming opponents, and coached all positions for the Cobras with the exception of the offensive line. While at Triton, Coach Barner helped in leading the Cobras to four state playoff appearances, including a state title in 2006 and a runner-up finish in 2010. A 1992 St. Olaf graduate with a degree in political science, social studies ed., and coaching, and a holder of an MA in Educational Leadership from Concordia St. Paul, Coach Barner teaches social studies in Byron at the Zumbro Ed District’s ALC. He lives in Owatonna and is the father of Ben, Grace, Noah, Beau, and Faith. Offensive Line Coach—Gavin Polansky is entering his second season as offensive line coach. He has five years of combined coaching experience through RCTC, Rochester Community Education, and Rochester Youth Football Association, and has also volunteered as a coach at RCTC. Raised in Rochester, Polansky graduated from John Marshall High School in 2011, and attended RCTC in 2011 and 2014. After three years of varsity football at John Marshall High School, Polansky was a 2011 MCAC football champion with RCTC, and has played five years of amateur football. He has one daughter – the light of his life – a wonderful girlfriend, Lauren – and comes from a large family of three sisters, one brother, two parents, two nephews, and one niece. Defensive Coordinator/LB’s—Mark Winkels is an alumnus of RCTC looking to give back to the team that helped him develop as a player and person. He has been teaching and coaching for roughly 14 years in area high schools, and has a teaching license in technology education. Winkels has the support of his family, wife Dayna, and sons Cody, Brenan, and Samuel. Defensive Line Coach—Jean R. Valere in his third year coaching the defensive Line, is from Miami, Fla., where he attended North Miami High School and competed in football, wrestling, and track and field. Coach Valere played defensive line in the NJCAA system at Mesabi Community College and at Rochester Community and Technical College. He transferred to Huron University in Huron, S.D., and completed a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Criminal Justice. While at Huron University, he attained Academic All-American honors and earned Honorable Mention All-American honors for football. Defensive Backs Coach—Jamar Boone is from Muck City, Florida. He attended and played at Glades Central Community High School. After graduation he was a one-year Division 1A athletic participant and three-year NAIA participant. He had three years of AFL experience and over seven years of semi pro. Boone has coached at Rochester Century High School for five years, coaching defensive backs and returners. WR Coach—Jimi Oyefeso is a former JUCO product and Division 1 wide receiver. Jimi lends a lot to the program with his experiences coming up through the JUCO system. Jimi is originally from Los Angeles.

RB/Special Teams Coach—LaQuintin “Punch” Yancey played at RCTC in 2010-2011, and interned as a coach here in 2012. Yancey returned to coach the RB’s in 2017 and is a Yellowjacket through and through. Coach Yancey is supported by his wife, Samantha, and children, Jax Yancey, Jagger Yancey, Jayden Miller, and Jalil Miller. — Page 4 —

2018 FOOTBALL SEASON PROGRAM

RCTC is large enough to be able to provide countless opportunities for students to take their college experience beyond the traditional classroom. But RCTC is small enough for students to immediately engage and become actively involved.

With performing arts, sports and fitness, student clubs and organizations, RCTC provides students with many opportunities to be active on campus.

For the most up-to-date student clubs and organizations listing, visit us online at: www.rctc.edu/studentlife/
