VOLLEYBALL FANS... On behalf of the students, faculty, and staff of Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC), welcome to our campus and to another exciting year of Yellowjacket volleyball! As president of this great institution, I am excited for what the academic year holds for our student-athletes, both on and off the field. RCTC strives to maintain an outstanding athletic program, which includes setting examples of good sportsmanship and providing personal growth opportunities for our student-athletes through both academic performance and team experiences. This is accomplished by living our values of being learner-centered, valuing excellence, respect, teamwork, innovation, and, along the way, a little fun. In addition to our athletic programs, student-athletes on our campus may choose from a variety of other student life activities that make life-long connections and develop leadership and other life skills. 2018 VOLLEYBALL SEASON PROGRAM
YELLOWJACKET VOLLEYBALL STAFF Amber Zitzow – Head Coach enters her seventh season at the helm of Yellowjacket Volleyball. Named the 2015 Heidi Hutchinson Coach of the Year, 2015 Minnesota College Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, and 2015 Rochester Area Sports Commission Banquet Finalist, Zitzow looks to continue building Rochester Community and Technical College into a perennial powerhouse. With Zitzow leading the way, the Yellowjackets were the 2015 NJCAA Division III National Champions, Region 13A Champions, winners of their third MCAC Conference Championship with a 14-0 record, and finalists for the 2015 RASC Banquet Team. Since arriving at RCTC, Zitzow owns a 131-58 record. The Yellowjackets are coming off back-to-back third place finishes in the MCAC Conference with a 10-4 record in league action. During the 2017 campaign, the Yellowjackets were named the Sportsmanship Team of the Year. Ashley Bichel was named NJCAA All-American in 2016. Completing a historic year in 2015, Zitzow led the Yellowjackets to a 27-6 overall record and a league-best 14-0 MCAC Conference finish. Under Zitzow’s guidance, RCTC garnered two All-Americans, four Region 13A players, and four All-MCAC Conference selections, as Tori Peterson was named MCAC Conference Player of the Year. Jessica Foster was also named the NJCAA National Tournament Most Valuable Player. Zitzow arrived at RCTC in August of 2012. In her first season, the Yellowjackets finished with a 17-9 record and a third place finish in the MCAC Conference, while Marcy Swenson earned Honorable Mention All-American. During the 2013 season, Zitzow lead the Yellowjackets to a 26-6 record, MCAC Co-Conference Championship, and Region 13A Runner-Up. She was named MCAC Coach of the Year, while Taylor Aakre was named MCAC Conference Player of the Year. Taylor Aakre and Lindsay Ayers were named NJCAA All-Americans. Taylor Aakre was also an AVCA All-American. The Yellowjackets finished the 2014 season with a 30-4 record. Among the team’s highlights were picking up the third place finish at the NJCAA National Tournament, Region 13A Championship, and a consecutive MCAC Co-Conference Championship. Zitzow was named MCAC Conference Coach of the Year, Region 13A Coach, and a finalist for the Rochester Area Sports Banquet Coach of the Year. Bri Atkins received MCAC Player of the Year, NJCAA All-American, and AVCA All-American honors. This was RCTC’s first National Tournament appearance in 14 years. Her teams have produced numerous MCAC Players of the Week, several MCAC Southern All-Division Players, many All-MCAC Conference Team players, MCAC Southern Conference Player of the Year, MCAC All-Academic Team players, and National Player of the Week honors. In post-season, the Yellowjackets have been honored with Region 13A Division III All-Region and All-Tournament players. Prior to Rochester Community and Technical College, Coach Zitzow spent many years as an assistant coach at the college and high school levels. She has led many Junior Olympic volleyball teams to national and AAU tournaments. “I look forward to the challenge of motivating athletes to grow and reach their full potentials while maintaining their classroom performances. I am optimistic that Rochester Community and Technical College will remain competitive and continue to offer a winning program.”
Tori Johnson – Assistant Coach is in her seventh year as the head assistant coach for the RCTC volleyball team. A Preston, Minn., native, Tori brings a wealth of coaching experience to the Yellowjacket bench. She has previous experience coaching Fillmore Central and Kenyon-Wanamingo Junior Olympic volleyball teams. She has coached for the Rochester Youth Volleyball Association’s Southern Minnesota volleyball program. She has previous experience as a RYVA board member and helps with the VolleyTot and Miniball programs. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing from the University of Minnesota. Tori was previously a Yellowjacket volleyball player, where she helped lead the Yellowjackets to a 48-12 record over her two-year career. Throughout her RCTC coaching career, she has helped Coach Zitzow lead the Yellowjackets to a 131-58 record. During the 2014 Season, the Yellowjackets held the No. 1 national ranking, were MCAC Conference Co-Champions, NJCAA Region XIIIA Champions, and placed third at the NJCAA National Tournament. It was the first time the team returned to the National Tournament in 14 years. In 2015, Tori and Zitzow continued their success by holding the No. 1 national ranking numerous times, were MCAC Conference Champions, NJCAA Region XIIIA Champions and NJCAA DIII National Champions. This was the first National Championship for the Yellowjacket Volleyball Program. Coach Johnson has helped produce numerous MCAC Players of the Week, several MCAC All-Division athletes, All-MCAC Conference athletes, MCAC Southern Conference Player of the Year, MCAC AllAcademic athletes, NJCAA National Players of the Week, NJCAA All-Americans and AVCA All-Americans. “Not only do I enjoy teaching the skills and strategies of volleyball, but I enjoy being a mentor for the young ladies as they begin or continue on their collegiate journey. It is great to be a part of the winning legacy of Yellowjacket volleyball, and I continuously look forward to helping our athletes with the goals and obstacles of being elite collegiate athletes.” Assistant Coach – Chanda Riedemann enters her first season as an assistant coach for the Yellowjackets. Chanda was part of Coach Zitzow’s first recruiting class, where she helped lead the Yellowjackets to a 43-15 record, third place and Co-Conference Championship, and a Region 13A Runner-Up over two years. She was named All-Conference and All-Academic. Chanda has previous coaching experience coaching with the RushfordPeterson Public Schools as the 9th grade and junior varsity assistant coach. Coach Riedemann competed on the Winona State University Club Volleyball team where she had the highest hitting percentage and made the All-National Team. She was named president of the club from 2016-2018. Assistant Coach – Rocky Xiong is in his first year as an assistant coach for the Rochester Community and Technical College volleyball team. He previously volunteer coached for the Yellowjackets during the 2013 season. The Yellowjackets finished the season with a 26-6 record, MCAC Co-Conference Champions, and Region 13A Runner-Up. Rocky has previous experience coaching at Rushford-Peterson Public Schools as the 9th grade and assistant varsity coach. He has many experiences as a head coach with Junior Olympic volleyball club teams. Rocky will graduate from Winona State University in December majoring in physical education and school health and a minor in coaching. He was an avid member of the Winona State Club Volleyball Team.

ROCHESTER YELLOWJACKETS Katlyn Bade is from Plainview, Minn., where she played libero for Plainview-Elgin-Millville High School. She was named AllConference Honorable Mention in 2015. She was All-Conference in 2016 and 2017. She was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2015, 2016 and 2017. She was Academic All-Conference in 2015, 2016 and 2017. She was also named to the 2017 Academic All-State team and was a 2017 Academic All American AAU. Her parents are Jason and Janelle. She has one brother, Kyler. Her major at RCTC is elementary education. Her favorite movie is Safe Haven. Her favorite sports team is the Minnesota Gophers. Her favorite food is shrimp. Her favorite game is Apples to Apples. Her favorite TV show is One Tree Hill. She came to RCTC to stay close to home. Hailey Bahr is from Byron, Minn., where she played outside hitter for Byron High School. She was named to the 2017 All-Conference Honorable Mention team. Her mom is Audra. She has three sisters, one brother, and a dog. Her major at RCTC is nursing. Her favorite movies are Twister, The Heat, and Scream. Her favorite sports teams are the Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, Minnesota Vikings, and Minnesota Twins. Her favorite foods are Chinese, pizza, and ice cream. Her favorite games are cornhole, Phase 10, Clue, and Cards Against Humanity. Her favorite TV shows are Riverdale, Grey’s Anatomy, The Office, and Parks and Recreation. Hailey loves to travel and snowmobile. Her fun fact is that she can pick things up with her feet. She came to RCTC because it was close to home, affordable, and gave her an opportunity to continue playing volleyball. Penni Brenke is from Le Center, Minn., where she played as a middle for Cleveland Public Schools. She was awarded the Most Improved Player, Hustle Award, and Unsung Hero Award. While at RCTC she has been named to the Dean’s List every semester of attendance. Her mom is Charity. She has a Brother, Matthew, and a sister, Kaleigh. Her majors at RCTC are web design and welding. Her favorite movie is The Greatest Showman. Her favorite foods are seafood, pasta, BBQ Ribs and watermelon. Her favorite game is sand volleyball. Her favorite TV shows are Grey’s Anatomy, Station 19, Riverdale, and The 100. Her fun facts are that she has a bearded dragon and a red iguana. Her special talent is that she can mimic animal noises. She came to RCTC to further her education in welding and web design and to play volleyball . Dakota Delaney is from Mabel, Minn., where she played middle hitter for Mabel-Canton High School. She was team Most Valuable Player and Most Improved. She has a mom, dad, two siblings, three cats, and a dog. Her major at RCTC is Dental Hygiene. Her favorite movie is Bad Moms. Her favorite food is mac and cheese and pizza. Her favorite game is volleyball. Her favorite TV show is Pretty Little Liars. She loves cats and has a cat with six toes. She came to RCTC because it is close to home. Alexis Dudycha is from Hayfield, Minn., where she was a setter for Hayfield High School. She was named to the 2017 All-Conference Honorable Mention and All-herald teams in 2017. She was also a High-Honor Roll student. Her parents are Kent and Melissa. She has a brother, Luke. Her major at RCTC is health science. Her favorite movie is High School Musical. Her favorite sports team are the Minnesota Gophers. Her favorite food is popcorn. Her favorite game is Uno. Her favorite TV show is One Tree Hill. She came to RCTC to play volleyball and stay close to home. Grace Friederichs is from Chatfield, Minn., where she played setter for Chatfield High School. Her parents are Andy and Kari. She has five siblings: Kate, Evy, Julia, Harvey, and Hank. Her major at RCTC is nursing. Her favorite movie is The Other Woman. Her favorite sports team is the Minnesota Gophers. Her favorite food is pasta. Her favorite TV shows are Criminal Minds and Grey’s Anatomy. She came to RCTC to continue playing volleyball and major in nursing. Maddeson Hintz is from Byron, Minn., where she played middle hitter for Byron High School. She lettered 12 times and was awarded Academic All-State. During her freshman season at RCTC, she received Setter of the Week two times and was named to the Dean’s List. Her parents are Deb and Derrick. She has a brother, Matthew. Her major at RCTC is surgical technology. Her favorite movies are The Heat, The Conjuring, and the Pitch Perfect series. Her favorite sports teams are the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers. Her favorite foods are tacos, pasta, cake, and Derrick’s smoked meat. Her favorite games are Monopoly and Life. Her favorite TV shows are Grey’s Anatomy and One Tree Hill. A fun fact about Maddie is that she and her brother are secret twins, even though they are two years apart. She came to RCTC to stay close to home, continue her volleyball career, and get a medical degree close to Mayo Clinic. AnnMarie Jalmasco is from Rochester, Minn., where she played middle hitter for Schaeffer Academy. She was awarded AllConference Honorable Mention, All-Conference, Most Improved, Hardest Worker, and the Character Award. She broke the school — Page 3 —
record for most blocks in a season (previously 36 and now 48) and then broke her own record with 98 total blocks in a season. While in high school, AnnMarie attended the History Day regionals and state and the Science Fair regionals and state. Her parents are Raul and Kristi. She is the oldest of two siblings, Sabrina and Noah. Her major is art. Her favorite movies are All Studio Ghibli, Marvel movies, Disney movies, and all sci-fi movies, and comedies. Her favorite sports teams are the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Gophers volleyball. Her favorite games include the Uncharted series, Overwatch, Detroit Become Human, and Undertale. Her favorite TV shows are The Office, Friends, Riverdale, and Parks and Recreation. Fun fact about AnnMarie is that she has had three knee surgeries. She can learn/memorize fairly complex piano pieces by ear without formal lessons, and she can identify/ name colors with extreme accuracy. AnnMarie chose to come to RCTC to finish her generals, play volleyball, and get everything in order to transfer to Savannah College of Art and Design. Kaelyn Marzolf is from Preston, Minn., where she played right side hitter for Fillmore Central High School. She was captain of her team and named to the All-Conference team in 2017. She was also part of the Academic All-Conference team and Scholar Club. Her parents are Jim and Sheila. She has two brothers, Nick and Matt. Her major at RCTC is going to be either surgical technology or nursing. Her favorite movie is Bridesmaids. Her favorite sports team is the Minnesota Vikings. Her favorite food is popcorn. Her favorite card game is Golf. Her favorite TV show is Grey’s Anatomy. Kaelyn’s fun fact is her nickname is Goose. She came to RCTC because of the great medical programs. Brekkin McCready is from St. Charles, Minn., where she set for St. Charles High School. She was captain, 2015 All-Conference Honorable Mention, 2016 All-Conference, 2017 All-Conference. During her senior season, she reached the 2,000 setting milestone, was named MVP of her team, and received numerous Player of the Game awards. Her parents are Jason and Heather, and she has a sister, Easton. Her major at RCTC is exercise and sports science. Her favorite movie is Safe Haven. Her favorite sports team is the Minnesota Vikings. Her favorite food is rice. Her favorite TV shows are Keeping up with the Kardashians and One Tree Hill. She came to RCTC to play volleyball. Carrie Rutledge is from Hayfield, Minn., where she played outside hitter for Hayfield High School. She was All-Conference in volleyball, basketball and softball. She set the school record for career digs at 1,485. She scored 1,000 points in her basketball career. She was named All-State in basketball and softball. She was a basketball and softball All-Star and was named to the AllTournament state softball Team in 2017. Her parents are Matt and Donna. She has two siblings, Cameron and Kenna. Her major at RCTC is health science. Her favorite movie is The Proposal. Her favorite sports team is the Minnesota Gophers. Her favorite foods are steak and mashed potatoes. Her favorite games are Rummikub and Sorry. Her favorite TV shows are The Office and Quantico. She came to RCTC to stay close to home and to continue her volleyball career. Mariah Steinbach is from Mankato, Minn., where she played as a middle for St. Clair High School. She was awarded Valley All-Conference Defensive Player in 2015 and 2016 and Valley All-Conference 2014, 2015, 2016. Her parents are Anita and Josh. She has one brother, Riley. Her major at RCTC is radiology. Her favorite movies are Disney movies and horror movies. Her favorite team is the Minnesota Twins. Her favorite foods are sushi, Mexican, and Chinese. Her favorite games are Headbands, Cards Against Humanity, and Speak Out. Her favorite TV shows are Criminal Minds, Riverdale, and Orange is the New Black. Her fun facts are that she loves storm chasing, and she can sleep more than 24 hours if you would let her! She came to RCTC to pursue a radiology degree through Mayo Clinic. Heidi Wolf is from Plainview, Minn., where she played outside hitter for Plainview-Elgin-Millville High School. She was a four-time letter winner in volleyball and received All-Conference honors in 2017. She was a three-time letter winner in basketball and a fourtime letter winner in softball. She received All-Conference honors in softball during her senior season. Her parents are Ron and Lyn. She has two brothers, Garret (Melissa) and John. Her major at RCTC is elementary education. Her favorite movies are Finding Dory, Mama Mia, and Moana. Her favorite sports teams are the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Gophers volleyball. Her favorite foods are mac and cheese and Chipotle. Her favorite games are Apples to Apples, Spoons, and Orange Toss. Her favorite TV show is Friends. Her fun fact is that she broke both of her feet within a week.
