The RCTC Foundation continues to focus on several pressing needs for our students: mental health, food insecurities, and financial assistance through scholarships. In addition, academically our programs have been able to ensure state-ofthe-art technology and equipment is available to prepare our students for tomorrow’s workforce. It is through your contributions that RCTC is able to fulfill our mission of providing accessible, affordable, quality learning opportunities to serve a diverse and growing community. Dear RCTC Community Stakeholders —  We submit the Annual Report of the Rochester Community and Technical College for the 2020 fiscal year that ended June 30, 2020. This annual report covers the transactions of the Foundation and recognizes donors who stepped forward in that time to show their support for the students and programs of Rochester Community and Technical College. Our generous donors give for a diverse number of reasons, but mainly, it is because they support our mission. Their gifts have had a tremendous impact on new and returning RCTC students and the programs offered at RCTC. As an adjunct professor within the College, I have been blessed to see the impact the Foundation has on our students and know firsthand its ability to educate and provide a financially responsible way to attain life goals. We gratefully thank business and industry partners and other individuals for donations of equipment and supplies. Whether it is a donation of hospital beds for the Nursing Program, or materials for our numerous programs, these important gifts lessen the expenditures of the College and are an important resource. On behalf of the RCTC Foundation, I want to personally thank our donors for their generosity and unwavering commitment to our students' educational pursuits. The donations to the Foundation continue to make a difference in our student's lives, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are all aware of the financial and emotional toll this year has had on our community. Spotlight on Student Scholarships
MEET HAILEE STOCK
As tough as this year has been, Hailee Stock is all smiles about her future career as a dental hygienist, “I’m pursing an Associate’s degree in dental hygiene, and will be graduating in the spring of 2021.” Her passion for her new career is contagious, Hailee shares, “A large part of my role as a dental hygienist is education. My goal is to offer more education programs to expecting parents, and families with young children. I want to help educate healthcare workers that work with elderly communities. More often than expected, our oral health is easily overlooked and forgotten about.” During her time at RCTC, Hailee received the Don and Stephanie Supalla Scholarship, Hoffman Technical Scholarship, Workforce Development Scholarship, and the Zumbro Valley Dental Society Scholarship. “I am so grateful for the scholarships I have received. These scholarships allow me to focus more on studying to become the great dental hygienist I hope to be.”
Spotlight on Donor
WOMEN HELPING WOMEN SCHOLARSHIP Some of our donors don’t seek the limelight, but their generosity can be an example to all of us. This is the story of one anonymous donor and her mission to help other women. “When I arrived in Rochester in 1976 with my almost twoyear-old son, I was alone and afraid. I had enrolled in the nursing program at RCC in the hope that my son and I could have a better life – one that was not filled with verbal and physical abuse.” While in Rochester, our alumna met others who were committed to helping women. Together, they formed a nonprofit and organized a board of directors. “By the time I left Rochester two years later, we had housed many victims in our own homes, spoken at classes and meetings, been on radio, educated the police, testified at the state legislature, and received funding for a shelter – Women’s Shelter.” Now this alumna is building on her legacy. She has created an annual scholarship to help female victims of domestic violence. “This scholarship will help others who have experienced abuse to improve their lives through an education at RCTC.” RCTC FOUNDATION | PAGE 2
DEWEY BENSON MEMORIAL AWARD This scholarship was established by RCTC CAD faculty member, Pam Benson, in memory of her father, Dewey Benson. The applicant must be majoring in Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) Technology, be a returning student, and have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

NEW SCHOLARSHIPS
WOMEN HELPING WOMEN SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship was established in 2020 to support women who have utilized the Women’s Shelter in Rochester, Minnesota. Applicants must have 2.0 GPA or higher, must have financial need and be survivors of domestic abuse who have utilized the Women's Shelter and Support Center emergency or supportive housing services. BOB “THE BUILDER” HIGHET MEMORIAL AWARD This scholarship was established by RCTC CAD faculty member, Pam Benson, in memory of Bob Highet. Applicants for this award must be a full-time, returning student majoring in Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) Technology, and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The applicant must possess superior mechanical aptitude and enjoy making hands on projects.
JUDITH A. MCDERMOTT SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship was established by the estate of Judith A. McDermott. Applicants must be majoring in Environmental Science and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
HARRIET HANSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship was established by the estate of Harriet Hanson. Applicants for the Harriet Hanson Memorial Scholarship must be majoring in nursing.

Rebecca is a RCTC alumna, Foundation Board Member, and also the daughter of Charles Hill, President of Rochester Junior College from 1953 – 1982. “My dad believed in the importance of the Junior and Community College system. He worked hard to make sure that everyone who attended received a quality education. He took pride in getting to know the students and watching them grow.” Rebecca shares her father’s commitment to help students succeed. “When my husband and I attended our first OAKS Scholarship event, we had an unforgettable evening. Hearing the stories of these incredible students who had overcome hardship and wanted a chance for an education really touched us. My husband, Jevan Loshbough, turned to me and said, “Why don’t we give a scholarship?” Rebecca and Jevan have been contributing a $2,500 OAKS scholarship since 2017. “Giving to the OAKS Scholarship Program has been so rewarding and easy. These students have faced such challenges we are happy to help them. We just want a chance to share the opportunities we have had with others who have the dream and desire to make a better life for themselves and their families." RCTC FOUNDATION | PAGE 4
Leaving a Legacy to Students
ROBERT O. WISE
RCTC faculty and staff are incredibly dedicated to helping our students. There are some staff, however, whose dedication is legendary. One of those staff was Robert O. Wise who served as Associate Dean of Students from 1963-1991. Bob was passionate about helping students, served on the RCTC Foundation Board, and was active in Rochester community life. Bob touched many lives as Associate Dean of Students. Bob retired June 30, 1991 but wanted to leave a legacy at RCTC that would enrich student life on campus for years to come. He decided to make a gift in his will with a portion to support the activities of the Student Senate and a portion to enhance student facilities on campus. Bob passed away in 2005, but his legacy at RCTC continues. In 2019/2020, RCTC was able to use Bob’s gift to enhance student facilities in the Regional Sports Center. This project has created a new workout room looking over the south end of the campus, partitioned the weight room to allow more groups to use the room at one time, and refurbished the area that recognizes the Yellowjackets who have received NJCAA honors. While the works are still underway, the RCTC Foundation is proud to showcase the improvements that Bob’s bequest has made possible.
Bringing Community Together to Help Students in Need
YELLOWJACKET EMERGENCY SUPPORT FUND
RCTC and the RCTC Foundation played a critical role in coordinating support for our students during this difficult time. RCTC received $1,148,970 through the CARES act to provide 2,687 students with financial aid grants and emergency grants. Despite the CARES Act funding, student needs were overwhelming. Our RCTC staff, alumni, and community stepped forward to help students in need with gifts to the Yellowjacket Emergency Support (YES) Fund. The YES Fund supports RCTC students by: 1. Supporting the HIVE Supply, our on-campus food pantry and winter clothing closet. 2. Helping students to access mental health professionals if they need assistance. 3. Providing up to a $500 emergency loan.

STUDENT RECIPIENTS SHARE One student who received CARES funding shared, “My family suffered two job losses related to COVID, which had a big impact on our household budget. The money I received enabled me to pay my rent and purchase food and personal items. If I had not received the emergency funding I would have had to withdraw from school due to lack of housing and the inability to purchase food.” Another student received a CARES grant for technology support, but later needed an additional emergency grant. “Unfortunately, I became homeless and was living from my car. RCTC emergency funds helped me pay rent for a month to get me into a place to stay. I am forever grateful for the help RCTC has shown me since I enrolled.”

STUDENTS HIT HARD DURING PANDEMIC EMERGENCY Community colleges play an important role in making education affordable and accessible— especially to low-income and first-generation college students. These students are those who have been hit especially hard—often working service jobs or part-time jobs whose hours are easily cut. In June, RCTC students participated in the HOPE Center #realcollege survey describing how the pandemic was affecting them. The results were heartbreaking:
