Welcome to Yellowjacket Basketball! As RCTC’s President, I am eager to see what this season holds for our studentathletes, both on and off the court.

RCTC has a reputation for striving to maintain an outstanding athletic program, including setting examples of good sportsmanship, and providing personal growth opportunities for our student-athletes through both academic performance and team experiences. This is accomplished by living our values of being learner-centered, valuing excellence, respect, teamwork, innovation, and, along the way, having a little fun.

In addition to our athletic programs, our student-athletes may choose from a variety of other student life activities to assist them in developing their leadership and other life skills. MEN'S COACHING STAFF

HEAD COACH JASON BONDE enters his third year as head coach after serving 12 years an assistant under the men’s basketball head coach Brian LaPlante.

In two years the Yellowjackets are 40-7, 22-1 in conference play winning the MCAC Southern Division Conference twice. They are two time MCAC Southern Division Champs, were NJCAA Division II Region 13 champions, Region XIIIA and North Plains A District Champions, and finished third at the NJCAA Division III National Tournament in 2022. During this time, Olivia Christianson was named Division II third team All-American in 2021 and Division III first team All-American, MCAC Player of the Year, All-Defensive team. Myia Ruzek and Christianson were named to the MCAC All-Division team. Ravyn Miles and Kandace Sikkink were named to All South MCAC team and Kassidy Broadwater was named to the All-Defensive team. Coach Bonde was named as the MCAC Southern Division Coach of the Year and District Coach of the Year in 2022, and Region 13 Division II Coach of the Year in 2021.

Prior to coming to RCTC, Bonde was on staff at Southwest Baptist University, in Bolivar, MO for two years where he also earned his master’s degree in education. The Bearcats were 38-20 in that time and won a conference championship in 2007-08 (14-4) in the tough MIAA. Bonde started his coaching experience after finishing his playing career at Bemidji State University (MN) as a student assistant that saw the Beavers reach a 20-10 mark and their first-ever 20-win season. Bemidji State was 14-2 in conference play that season, earning a berth to the NCAA Division II tournament and leading the nation in three-pointers per game, with 11.7.

Bonde has also coached two years at the high school levels, one year at Pine Island, MN and Century High School in Rochester, MN.

Jason also serves as the Director of RCTC’s TRIO program. He and his wife Sara have three girls Faith (15), Nora (10), and Alexandra (6).

HEAD COACH BRIAN LAPLANTE enters his 27th season as the Head Coach of the Yellowjackets. His overall at RCTC is 512-223 (70% winning percentage). He has had 65 All-Division, 46 All-State, and 22 All-Region players in his tenure. Sixty-six Yellowjackets have went on and competed at various four-year institutions in his 26 seasons as Head Coach. Coach LaPlante was named District 4 Coach of the Year in 2006, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2020. His teams have been to the NJCAA National Tournament seven times (2006-fifth place, 2010-National Runner-up, 2011-National Runner-up, 2013 eighth place, 2015 third place and 2016 National Runner-up 2020 National Tournament semi-finals). The Yellowjackets have won the MCAC State title in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2020 under LaPlante.

LaPlante has coached baseball, football, and golf at RCTC and was an assistant coach at Winona State University (WSU)in basketball and baseball prior to coming to RCTC. He has a B.S. in Physical Education from WSU (1995) and a Master’s in Physical Education from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse (2000). He and his wife Kristin have two children, Sean (22) and Kendall (19). He has seven brothers and sisters and 18 nieces and nephews.

ASSISTANT COACH MITCH BAURES enters his first season as Assistant Coach with the Yellowjackets. Baures joins the staff after previous coaching experience at his high school alma mater, Cochrance Fountain City. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from Winona State University and an Associate Degree in Nursing from Rochester Community and Technical College.

ASSISTANT TY SLOAN is starting his first season with the Yellowjackets. He has been a high school football coach for four years with Grand Meadow and now in his first season with Fillmore Central. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from St. Cloud State University in 2020. He has a brother that lives in Colorado and a sister that lives in Mankato, MN.

ASSISTANT NAYAL “MAC” KOSHWAL begins his first year of coaching at RCTC. He played college basketball at DePaul University and then had stints with the Philadelphia 76ers and various overseas leagues and the NBA developmental league. Mac brings a wealth of experience and relates very well to our players.

MEET THE YELLOWJACKET WOMEN'S TEAM

MYIA RUZEK is from Altura, MN and graduated from Lewiston-Altura High School. She played guard where she won All-Conference, Academic All-Conference and was named MVP from her teammates. She was included in the academic honor roll. Her family includes parents Eric and Tonya, and siblings Jace, Makayla, and Ciera. Her favorite movie is Home Alone. Her favorite sports team is the Los Angeles Lakers. Her favorite food is mac & cheese. She is studying carpentry.

SOPHIE ANDRING is from Dover, MN where she attended Dover-Eyota High school. She was an all-conference selection in basketball and volleyball. Her parents are Tim and Melissa Andring. She has two sisters named Liberty Rose and Taylin, and a brother Carter. Her major is surgical technology at RCTC. She likes the movie Mama Mia and her favorite food is pasta. She likes the Green Bay Packers. Her favorite thing to do is ride horses and she owns a guinea pig.

RAVYN MILES hails from Inver Grove Heights, MN and graduated from Simley High School. She played point guard and shooting guard where she lettered five years and won All-Conference four years. Her team honors include two-time conference champions, section champions, and she placed third in the state tournament. Her academic honors include being on the Simley High School honor roll. Her family includes her parents and younger brother and older sister. Her favorite food is mac and cheese. Her favorite movies are Love and Basketball and The Blind Side. She is studying liberal arts.

OLIVIA CHRISTIANSON is from Lyle, MN and graduated from Lyle Public High School where she played power forward. Her athletic honors include all-time leading scorer, three-time All-Conference, two-time All-Conference MVP, state tournament team, 1000 and 2000 points, KAAL and KIMT athlete of the week, and two-time MVP. Her team honors include five-time conference champions, fourth place at the state tournament in 2015, state tournament champions in 2018, and section runner up in 2019. Her academic honors are six-time Academic All-Conference, valedictorian, and honor roll. Her family is Brooke Klabunde and John Christianson, three brothers Luke, David, and Dylan, and a sister Lillian. She enjoys any of the Marvel Avengers movies or Disney movies. She a fan of any Minnesota sports team such as the Lynx, Twins, Vikings, Timberwolves, Wild, etc. Her favorite food is pasta and garlic bread. She is studying secondary education and coaching.

KASSIDY BROADWATER graduated from Fillmore Central High School where she played point guard and guard. Her athletic honors include most steals and Miss Hustle in 2018, most steals, most assists, and Miss Hustle in 2019, and highest three-point shooting percentage, most steals, most assists, Miss Hustle, True Falcon Award, and All-Three Rivers conference team in 2020. Her academic honors include Academic AllConference (2017-2020). Her team honors are Section 1A runner up in 2017, Section 1A champions in 2020, and state tournament participant in 2020. Her family is Brett, Kari, Kenzie, and Kammry Broadwater. Her favorite movie is Happy Gilmore. Her favorite sports team is the University of Minnesota. Her favorite food is raspberries.

JANAE BENNETT is from Brooklyn Park, MN where she attended Park Center Senior High School. She has a brother Derek and a sister Taylor. Her family members are Jamar and Dionne. Her favorite movie is Halloween. She likes chicken nuggets and ice cream. He favorite team is the Lynx. She loves to spend money and has a gecko.

KANDACE SIKKINK is from Preston, MN and graduated from Fillmore Central High School. She played post and won All-Conference in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. She was awarded All-Academic in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. Her family includes her parents Mark and Kelsey, brother Alec, sisters Sonny and Faye, and step siblings Bailey and Arianna. Her favorite movie is The Bee Movie. Her favorite sports team is the Minnesota Vikings. Her favorite food is chicken quesadillas. She came to RCTC to pursue a career in the medical field.

LEXI HUGEBACK hails from Kasson-Mantorville, MN and graduated from KassonMantorville High School where she played wing and post. She was honored as the most improved player and was on the academic honor roll. Her family includes her parents Mike and Shelly, and younger brothers Aidan and Austin. Her favorite movie is White Chicks. Her favorite sports team is the Milwaukee Bucks. Her favorite food is shrimp alfredo. She is studying towards a chiropractic degree.

JADA JAMES is from St. Paul, MN and attended Como Park High school. She was an all-conference selection for basketball and volleyball along with an all-section softball player. She has three brothers, Karter, Jalen and Will, two sisters, Kayla and Laya, and her parents Becky and Will. She is looking at majoring in Sports Management. Her favorite movie is the Fast and Furious franchise. Favorite food is chicken and she loves the Georgia Bulldogs. Jada loves to bake and has her own baking business.

DANIKA JONES is from Parowan, Utah and attended Parowan High school. She was an all-state player in basketball, all conference in volleyball, all state in track and the school record holder in discus. Her parents are Tanya and Duston Jones, and, she has two brothers Dixon and Hayden. She is studying Dental Hygiene at RCTC. Her favorite movie is Jumanji and she likes tacos. Her favorite sports team is the Packers. She loves to travel, enjoys playing pickle ball, and is the RCTC student President.

JAIDE PRESSLEY is from St. Paul, MN and graduated from Hopkins High School where she played small forward. Her athletic honors are All-Conference and State Tournament Champions. Her family includes two brothers and two sisters. Her favorite movie is Glory Road. Her favorite sports team is the Los Angeles Lakers. Her favorite food is rice noodles and steak. She is studying nursing.

MEET THE YELLOWJACKET MEN'S TEAM

QUEST MCCRIMON is a returning sophomore from Kissimmee, Florida but graduated from high school in Osceola, Minnesota. His athletic honors are 2019 high school state champion, 2021 DII region champion. His family is his mom Julia Mason, and brother Richard McCrimon. As a kid his favorite cartoon was SpongeBob. He is currently obsessed with becoming a better QUEST! His go-to after-game meal is spaghetti. Quest is a professional juggler. He chose RCTC to win a national championship and become a better human being.

QUINCY BURLAND is a returning sophomore from Castle Rock, Colorado. SpongeBob was his favorite cartoon as a kid. Spaghetti is his favorite aftergame meal. Quincy’s special talent is playing guitar. When asked why RCTC, he said simply, “Coach LaPlante.”

NICK PEPIN is a returning sophomore from Coralville, Iowa. His current obsession is watching any sport or documentaries on players. Chicken alfredo is his favorite after game meal. Nick’s special talent is mini golfing. He decided to attend RCTC because “[It is a] great school, and has a great basketball program. I enjoy going to school here and having the opportunity to be on the basketball team.”

DAELEN WHITFIELD is a returning sophomore and made the Dean’s List last year. SpongeBob was his favorite cartoon as a kid. His current obsession is watching basketball. Steak and rice are his go-to after-game meal. Daelen can draw and is a tattoo artist. He chose RCTC to become the best version of myself.

KAMERON GIVENS is a sophomore from Minneapolis, Minnesota. As a kid his favorite cartoon was SpongeBob. His current obsession is working out. He loves to have spaghetti and fish after games. Kameron can juggle! He chose RCTC because “we have the best coach of all time. He the GOAT!”

JACOB LOTZ is a sophomore from Viroqua, Wisconsin. His academic honor is making the Dean’s List his freshman year. His favorite cartoon as a kid was Curious George. His current obsession is watching The Last Dance with Michael Jordan. His favorite after-game meal is pizza. Jacob’s special talent is juggling. Jacob chose RCTC because it felt right when he visited. “I felt welcomed in right away not just from Coach LaPlante, but also from the players. RCTC is also a great place for academics.”

JAYLEN JOHNSON is a freshman from Chicago, Illinois and went to Thornwood High School. There his academic honors include: All Academic First Team, four Year Honor Roll, Illinois Academic Athlete of The Month. His family members are his dad Christopher Johnson, and brothers Ahmad Johnson and Christopher Johnson Jr. Family Guy was his favorite cartoon as a kid. His current obsession is Lebron James The Shop (podcast). His favorite after-game meal is Chick-Fil-A. Jaylen can swim! Jaylen said, “I chose RCTC because I wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself and the family feel that it gave me. The first day I met Coach LaPlante he made me feel like family and always kept it real with me. RCTC basketball has a great legacy and I wanted to be a part of that and continue it.”

ZACHARY HERRMANN is a freshman from Maple River, Minnesota and graduated from Maple River High School. He loved the cartoon Phineas and Ferb as a kid. Trailer Park Boys is his current obsession. He likes to have tacos after a game. Zach is majoring in engineering. He chose RCTC because it has been on top for many years and has a great program.

COLLIN BONOW is a freshman from Lewiston. Minnesota. His family includes Heather, Matt, Mitch, Savannah, Garrett, and Bennett. Scooby-Doo was his favorite cartoon as a kid. His current obsession is the Dahmer documentary. Steak and Spanish rice is his favorite after-game meal. Collin is ahead a grade in school for his age. He chose RCTC because “I wanted something close to home while also being able to play basketball at a high level.”

BLUE SMALLER is a freshman from Minneapolis, Minnesota and went to Southwest High School. Kick Buttowski was his favorite cartoon as a kid. His current obsession is White Cheddar Chex Mix. A Chipotle steak bowl is his go-to after-game meal. Blue’s favorite player is Paul George. He chose RCTC because it’s a good program and it’s close to home.

BRENDAN SHANKS is a freshman from Burnsville, Minnesota. His family is his mom Susan Shanks, and dad John Odhiambo. As a kid his favorite cartoon was Adventure Time. His current obsession is Naruto. DREW BURAU is a freshman from Howard Lake, Minnesota. His athletic honors are All Conference for basketball his senior year of high school. His family includes his mom Kelli, dad Chad, brother Marcus, and sister Maggie. His favorite cartoon as a kid was Blue’s Clues. His current obsession is any crime show. His favorite after-game meal is Chipotle or Subway. Drew can speak Spanish. He chose RCTC because of the great basketball program and Coach LaPlante is a great coach!

ANDRE CROCKETT JR. is a returning sophomore from Rochester, Minnesota and graduated from Mayo High School. As a kid his favorite cartoon was Jerry. His current obsession is Umbrella Academy. He loves to have a steak after games. When asked why RCTC, he said “it felt like it was the best place for me to grow as a player and person.”

PEYTON DUNHAM is a returning sophomore and graduated from RCTC’s Carpentry program. At Lourdes High School he was a three-time letter winner for cross country, basketball, football, and track and fields. His family is Rob Dunham, Parker Dunham, Valerie Cooper. His current obsession is installing elevators and building ziplines. His favorite after-game meal is ricotta puff pastry. Peyton can build a house! On why he chose RCTC, he said, “If I couldn’t represent my hometown I would be lost.”

OBINNA IZOURA is a freshman from New Brighton, Minnesota and went to Irondale High School. His family includes his mom, dad, two brothers and one sister. His favorite cartoon as a kid was Jimmy Neutron. His current obsession is sleep. Hi favorite after-game meal is Chick-Fil-A. Obinna can juggle! He chose RCTC because it felt like home.

ROMAN WARMKA is a freshman from Grand Meadow, Minnesota and graduated from Grand Meadow High School. His family is his mom Sara Warmka, dad Tony Warmka, and sisters Naomi and Greta Warmka. As a kid his favorite cartoon was Phineas and Ferb. His current obsession is the NFL season and Vikings. His go-to after-game meal is chicken, rice, and mixed vegetables. Roman has two middle names. (Although he didn’t let us know either of them). Roman said “[RCTC has] a good history of basketball and is good school”.

KEON MOORE is a freshman from St. Paul, Minnesota and graduated from South St. Paul High School. He was the MVP his senior year in high school and his team was three-time conference champions. When asked to share about his family, Keon said “Family is everything to me and I wouldn’t be here without my mom, my God mom and my grammy.” SpongeBob was his favorite cartoon as a kid. He is currently obsessed with Grizzly World. His favorite after-game meal is Canes. His special talent is dancing. He thought that RCTC felt like home and that’s why he chose it.

LUCKENY “LUCKY” ALBERTO is a returning sophomore from Lisboa, Portugal. His athletic honors include Defensive Player of The Year in Portugal (‘18/’19), National Champion in Portugal in Volleyball, Soccer, Badminton, Table Tennis, and Handball. His favorite cartoon as a kid was Naruto. He is currently obsessed “The Last Dance”. His favorite after-game meal is sushi or Buffalo Wild Wings. Lucky is a singer/songwriter. When asked why he chose RCTC he said, “I want to bring all the heat, like my hair is on fire!”

EDWARD “TRE” MICHAELS is a freshman from Mendota Heights, Minnesota. He graduated from Two Rivers High School where he was an honor student and on the district Leadership Team. His athletic honors are Metro East All-Conference and Spotlight on Scholars Award. His team honors include leading his high school team to its first winning record in 10 years! His family is his mom Timecka Sanchez-Michaels, dad Edward Michaels, and his three young siblings. As a kid his favorite cartoon was Regular Show. His current obsession is listening to music. Chick-Fil-A is his preferred after-game meal. Tre has been to 20 states! Tre said” I wanted to continue my basketball career at the collegiate level and the RCTC basketball program gave me the opportunity to do just that. The facilities of the Sports Center and the campus are also topnotch.”
