Antes de llamarse Playa del Carmen, el nombre de esta región del Sureste mexicano, era conocida como Xaman Há, que significa “Agua del norte”, (aunque hay quienes dicen que también significa “el viento negro del agua del norte”) que en la época prehispánica era un pequeño pueblo de pescadores. Fue uno de los primeros poblados vistos por los conquistadores españoles a principios del siglo XVI. Tiene una ubicación privilegiada frente a la isla de Cozumel y se encuentra lleno de aventuras naturales desde sus cenotes hasta sus playas icónicas.
