She addressed various body changes like growth of pubic hair, menstruation (wherein she encouraged boys to learn how to prepare a sanitary towel for use, just in case they are tasked with helping a sister, wife, daughter or a friend in future). The session was so far one of our most educative, learnt more about their physical sexuality and how to keep healthy and clean.

Zaitun Nabaterega came in as a facilitator of the day, and boy did she nail it! She used her expertise in reproductive health and interacting with young people to drive the participants discussion on body changes.
DAY 07 Amon the day’s facilitator dealt with Active Listening Skills and sexual relationships. He started with an exercise where all participants were required to prove their knowledge on the 5 basic Active Listening skills which include empathy, affirming, asking open-ended questions, paraphrasing and clarity. Amon then took the class through sexual relationships. He mentioned that a sexual relationship is a healthy heterogeneous relationships which includes having protected sex, understanding each other and practicing effective communication while sex in a relation is just the
act of having sexual intercourse. The session was concluded by a hot debate on the role of sex and the responsible party for pregnancy in a relationship, that not only thrilled but also informed the participants.
DAY 08
Bakshi Asuman took the participants through sex, sexuality, reproductive health, sexual rights and community relations where he defined each of them and discussed them in detail. He then discussed needs and wants highlighting the difference between the two and urging the participants to take note of the differences and to act accordingly. After the tea break Ibrahim Nkonge, our Programs Officer (Communities and Schools) led a session on community relations and mobilization skills. He mentioned that to carry out the two (community relations and mobilization skills) successfully, a peer educator must know his or her energy levels and also be able to interpret the various energy levels of the people his or she is dealing with. For example, Blue for formal people, Green for empathetic people, Red for Bossy/ dominant people or if a person has more than one level.
Bridget Diana Ndagire from National Forum for People Living with HIV facilitated a session on HIV and positive Living. Using her personal experience, she guided the participants on how to treat people living with HIV. She urged the participants to know their status and encouraged them to stay on guard. Bakshi then took the academy through life skills where different teams were tasked to act different life scenarios to highlight relations, interpersonal skills and communication skills. The activity also highlighted the importance of self-awareness and self-acceptance as a key factor to personal success or fiasco especially to the young people struggling to fit in the society.
