#1. KING NUN YOU N G , F U N A N D F ULL OF BA N G E RS . Festival season thrives on bands seizing the moment. It’s what they’re all about - staggering into a stage without a care in the world and catching your attention like a necessity you never knew you needed. If there’s a band to do that more than any, it’s King Nun. From the moment ‘Tulip’ burst through the gates and hit us square in the face, there’s only been one thing certain. That King Nun are going to shake a few feathers. They’re going to become your favourite band, whether that’s right away, in the middle of the summer or beyond that - it will happen, and they’ll do it because they’re fucking great. As seen across the many live shows they’ve laid out over the past few months, there’s already a sense of “did you see that King Nun

show?” going about, and with good reason. Whether it’s delivering seismic hitter after hitter or diving across the stage (quite literally), it’s the sound of a band being that ultimate defining point. Four people living in the moment and leaving it all on that stage. With ear worms that’ll live in your head right from the get-go, there may be ‘bigger’ names on festivals this summer, but none will deliver as much of a good time as King Nun. What’s even better about it all? This is just the beginning. Come rain or shine, King Nun are the festival band you need - and come September, they’ll be the banker you want to cash in over and over. Get the crown ready; the Kings are here. CATCH TH E M AT: The Great Escape (18th-20th May), Latitude (13th-16th July), Reading & Leeds (25th-27th August)

# 2 . B L AC K HONEY C I N EMATIC B RIL L IAN CE. Rolling a motion picture right in front of our eyes, Black Honey’s road to the top has been a captivating one. With every moment that passes, Izzy & Co have delivered. Bangers? Check. A live show that’ll have you wrapped up quicker than a sleeping bag in Iceland? Check. The very essence of the iconic already flowing through each and every note? (How many checks can you put down in one sentence again?) The crowds just keep getting bigger 8

- and by the time the next few months roll around, their status is going to be confirmed. It’s easy to be sceptical at 2pm in the afternoon on a Sunday at a festival once all the energy is slowly draining from your system - but if there’s ever a band who can take any stage and make it a glowing beacon of festival-stealing memories then it’s Black Honey. Miss them at your peril, because before long - you’ll be banging on the door to get in on this party. CATC H TH E M AT : Blissfields (6th-8th July), Reading & Leeds (25th-27th August)

#3. GET INUIT YOU WA NT BA N G E RS? G ET I N UIT DO BA N G E RS. The new breed of UK indie bands know how to write a banger - that’s beyond any doubt. But, of all of them, Get Inuit may have the highest percentage of solid gold anthems in waiting. From the sugar spun harmonies of ‘All My Friends’ to magic ear worm ‘Barbiturates’, by the end of the summer they’ll have converted even more devoted followers to their cause. CATCH TH E M AT: 2000trees (6th-8th July), Truck (21st-23rd July)

#4. THE BIG MOON THE BI G M OON A RE HE RE , A N D THEY ’VE N O TI M E FOR BORI N G. The Big Moon are anti-boring. They say “exciting” a lot. It’s not surprising then that more than simple fun, the band’s debut album ‘Love In The 4th Dimension’, resists the expected at every turn. Recorded surrounded by Hawaiian shirts and inflatables, it refuses to take itself too seriously. “Why do something boring when you can do something interesting, weird or silly,” reasons Celia Archer. “Weird is good,” agrees Jules Jackson. “We wanted it to sound weird.” “You know when you listen to ‘London Calling’ by The Clash, and it makes you walk with more authority? I want that to happen,” she continues. “I want people to feel empowered and bold when they listen to this album. I think it’s exactly what we wanted it to be. It’s perfect.” CATCH TH E M AT: Tramlines (21st-23rd July), Truck (21st-23rd July), Y Not (27th30th July), Green Man (17th-20th August), Reading & Leeds (25th27th August)

#5. THE M AG I C GANG C OULD IT BE M AG I C N OW ? (Y ES, OBVI OUSLY IT C OULD. ) From the moment The Magic Gang step on stage, the spell they cast on their audiences is nothing short of, well, magical. All out dance moves, friends on friends’ shoulders, crowd surfers sailing over heads, and through it all, a characteristic brand of sun-kissed indie pop that leaves you feeling as warm inside as a stock photo of a puppy with a butterfly on its nose. It’s an ardent enthusiasm the band inspire, one that’s seen them release two EPs, play at venues all across the UK, and start to venture abroad. Now, with a major record deal in the bag, a new EP about to see release, and a headline tour ahead of them, there’s never been a better time to fall for the Brighton four-piece. It’s no wonder that the excitement levels are soaring pretty high. CATCH TH E M AT: Liverpool Sound City (13th-16th May), Truck (21st-23rd July), Y Not (27th-30th July), Reading & Leeds (25th-27th August), Bestival (7th-10th September)

# 7. VA N T SO M E BA N DS A RE N ’ T A F R A I D TO S P E A K U P FO R W H AT T H EY B E L I EV E I N .

#6. SHAME RE A DY O R N OT, SO U T H LO N D O N F I V E- P I EC E S H A M E A RE TA K I N G OV E R . Everything Shame do is built and paid for in unrivalled and thrilling live arenas. In-your-face, visceral to the bone and a touchpoint for how to command a stage, it’s the platform which brought them into music and breathes through them each and every day. With the sound of a generation rustling within them, you wouldn’t bet against Shame being the most talked about band in the country by this time next year – a show not to be missed and a voice impossible to ignore. 14

“Our dream from the beginning, being completely honest, was that one day we would headline Brixton Academy,” details frontman Charlie Steen. “We were 17 years old at The Queens Head so that dream was to have a drink at the pub and then walk two minutes down the road and then headline the gig. “Obviously The Queens Head is gone now but that’s still everything we could always dream of, we don’t want to stop in any way.” CATCH THEM AT: Latitude (13th-16th July), Kendal Calling (27th-30th July), Green Man (17th-20th August), End of the Road (21st August-3rd September)

Seeing themselves as more philosophical than political, VANT’s debut album is a considered reaction to the world that surrounds them. Inequality, misogyny, sexism, climate change, racism, global relations, religion and the general state of the human race: the band tackle it all. More than a checklist of grievances, though, they’re outspoken but considered. Searching for answers and hoping to get more people talking, ‘Dumb Blood’ is an album with purpose. If it feels vital, that’s ‘cause it is. This isn’t sideline commentary or echochamber self-gratification, it’s about immediate action. It’s now or never. The call to arms is undeniable, but it never detracts from ‘Dumb Blood’’s immediate and whole-hearted entertainment. CATCH TH E M AT: Truck (21st-23rd July), Leopallooza (28th-30th July), Reading & Leeds (25th-27th August)

#8. I N H E AV E N INDI E IS NOT A D IRTY WORD. If the last couple of years has seen a plunge into darkness, then INHEAVEN are certainly the beacon of light burrowing through the mess. Colouring in the shades of life with a rainbow sculpted vision of life, love and vibrant energy, INHEAVEN are the band that aren’t just packed with bangers but vital for here and now. “We wanna make people feel something, we want people to live and die by us,” explains co-frontperson James Taylor. “We want kids to have the same feeling we had when we were younger when we went to gigs, that feeling that you can do anything. There’s definitely a message behind everything we do, I think it’s important to – especially now in this day

16

and age, it’s a mental time to be alive, and I think if no one else is going to fucking speak out then y’know, we should.” Combining the sounds of decades past into one complete library of immediate anthems and swinging live sermons, INHEAVEN have built the foundations for what a band should and have to be in the modern world – and they’re reaping the rewards. Sold out shows, hysterical scenes and a cult following has seen them become the next great phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see it flourish. CATC H TH E M AT : Glastonbury (21st-25th June), Truck (21st-23rd July), Reading & Leeds (25th-27th August)

# 9. GIRLI SHE ’S J UST A G IRL TH AT WE MET O N THE INTE RN ET. From the tongue-very-much-incheek flourish of “I’m a pop princess, a sassy songstress, we’re all very impressed. My, what a revealing dress,” on ‘Girls Get Angry Too’ to the, “You thought I was going to do a ballad? Fuck off,” welcome of ‘So You Think You Can Fuck With Me Do Ya?’ Girli has quickly established herself as an artist who says exactly what she’s thinking. She can tell what you’re thinking too, and dances with that power. Constantly one step ahead, ACME weight on the cliff above, she’s ready to hit. “It’s so fucking typical,“ she mocksighs. “I never went out and was like ‘I’m going to be controversial’. It just happened.” “I definitely want to be seen as who I am, and that’s not just the whole ‘I’m political’ thing. I also want to kiss that person, that kind of thing. It’s all just human. Even though Girli is in some ways a larger than life character, I also want people to be able to relate to it. It is just me, and I’m just a normal person.” CATCH THE M AT : Mighty Hoopla (4th June)

#10. M U N A W I T H A BO N D TO B E REC KO N E D W I T H , U N D E RG RO U N D P O P S E N SAT I O N M U N A M A K E FO R A FO RM I DA B L E T RI O. What we’ve needed for a while now, is not only a band and a voice that can cut above the world around them but one that can shift and look to change it. Bringing shimmering 80s pop-noir into the 21st Century, their infectious knack for energy and pulling the joy out of every moment of darkness means that MUNA are primed and ready at the top of pop’s royal table. As heard ringing through their debut album ‘About U’, MUNA are painting a masterpiece that’s gearing up to be recognised far beyond the dorms

and halls they first called home. The power of family, love and friendship have never been more vital. It’s a statement Naomi McPherson keeps close to mind. “I feel like sometimes I take for granted what good friendships I have with Josette and Katie, not everybody gets to have that. By being in a band, we’re trying to encourage that vulnerability, to look for that connection with other people, and to be as open as you can be.” In a world where doors are being shut at every turn, MUNA’s open door is the stand of defiance we need. CATCH TH E M AT: Reading & Leeds (25th-27th August)

#11. DECLAN MCKENNA B RITI SH I N DI E ’S N E XT B I G S U PE RSTA R I N WA ITI N G , D EC LA N I S A VOI C E FOR HI S G E N E R ATI ON . Unlike many new British stars, Declan started making an impact across the pond first. “Things kicked off in America quicker than it did over here,” he explains. “I was able to play headline shows to decent numbers of people over there quicker than I could here. Up until recently, I didn’t see anything like that happening in the UK. All of a sudden a load of people became interested.” Despite the unusualness of breaking in America first, Declan has grown accustomed to the crazy nature of the music business. “I guess it’s me learning that in the modern world of music, cool shit can just happen without much explanation.” You get the feeling that nothing could shock him or ruffle his feathers in 2017 although maybe the Christmas

Number One that he longs for would do the trick. With an album produced by James Ford due this summer, there’s a lot for Declan to look forward to. At the forefront of his mind though is giving a voice to his ideas and feelings through his music. Contained within Declan McKenna’s whip-smart pop songs are some big messages and big ideas. “The album as a whole is about being frustrated as a young person, being open and talking about politics,” he says. Engagement and allowing different voices to be heard is a key theme of his music and his message. “There’s a lot of things that people need to talk about,” he proclaims. “Keeping the conversation going is the most important thing.” CATCH TH E M AT: Liverpool Sound City (13th-16th May), Glastonbury (21st-25th June), TRNSMT (7th-9th July), Latitude (13th-16th July), Y-Not (27th-30th July), Reading & Leeds (25th-27th August)

PIERCE THE VEIL

Hey, so you’re playing Download this summer - do you have anything special planned for your set? Jaime: We always try and do whatever we can to put on the best live show we can with what we have. This is no exception; we’re definitely gonna try and bring a lot of energy to this set!!! How do you prepare for a summer spent travelling across the world to events like this? We’ve been touring for over ten years now, so we all are very used to this kind of trip. It’s just about knowing that we will be playing to a lot of people who may not know us. So we have to be ready to work! Are there any must-have items you try to take with you? I have kind of a weird superstitious thing with my show shoes, it’s really funny, but I always have my Red Vans with me at every show! It’s like my good luck charm. Have you heard any Download tales from your mates that have made you keen to go? I’ve seen videos of Slipknot playing Download, and it was the craziest things I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t even fathom being there to witness that! If you were in charge of booking Download, who would you want to headline next year’s event? Ha, if you gave me any control of that, nobody would come!!! They have the perfect team that really brings a lot of great bands together so I think they wouldn’t need my help. With that being said I wouldn’t mind seeing Blink 182 with Tom again!

CODE CODE ORANGE ORANGE

Hey Jami, so you’re playing Download - any hints as to what fans can expect? We plan to bring the hurt and put everyone up top on notice.

Are there any other bands you’re looking forward to saying hi to? Yeah! There are a few bands playing we have friends in, so any of those for sure. What’s your favourite thing about playing big, outdoor festivals like Download?

Getting to play to a ton of people in a different environment than we normally play. And also playing with bands we wouldn’t normally get the chance to play with.

How do you prepare for a summer spent travelling across the world to events like this? We spend all our time touring in rough conditions all year round so this should be a piece of cake!

Are there any must-have items you try to take with you? Underwear. If you were in charge of booking Download, who would you want to headline next year’s event? Code Orange! What else do you have coming up over the next few months? We are supporting SYSTEM OF A DOWN in June and will keep grinding. Forever. 31

OF MICE & MEN

Hey Aaron, so you’re playing Download this summer - do you have anything special planned for your set? Any hints as to what fans can expect? We’ll be rocking & rolling! We’ve got a good mix of older and newer material in our set, and we’ll be playing our new single, “Unbreakable.”

Are there any other bands you’re looking forward to saying hi to, or watching play? I’m super stoked to see our friends in ADTR, Suicide Silence, and Crown The Empire! And there are so many other great bands I can’t wait to watch! What’s your favourite thing about playing big, outdoor festivals like Download?

The energy of the crowd! The UK knows how to enjoy a rock show better than most places in the world, so it’s always a great time playing here. How do you prepare for a summer spent travelling across the world to events like this? I spend a lot of time with my family, and also eating the things I regularly like to eat, haha! Are there any must-have items you try to take with you? I usually bring a video-game system of some kind—whether it’s my PS4, or my PS Vita.

Have you heard any Download tales from your mates that have made you keen to go? We watched Bring Me The Horizon absolutely smash Download in 2014! They’re friends of ours, and it’s always awesome to see your friends do awesome shit! If you were in charge of booking Download, who would you want to headline next year’s event? Tool, Rammstein, Slipknot. What else do you have coming up over the next few months? Working on more music, and playing lots of shows all over the world! P

BLOOD BLOOD YOUTH YOUTH

Hey, Kaya! You’re playing Download again! We bet you’re excited… It’s mental to be playing Download again! If you’d have told me when I was a telemarketer in Spain that I was going to play Download twice, I’d have thought you were mad! Do you remember that first Download show well? I don’t remember the show that much, because it was

like a weird dream; it all happened so quickly, and it was such a huge day. But we’re so excited to do it again! We’re on a bigger stage, at a really good time. You’re playing on the new ‘Avalanche Stage’ this year. What do you make of the rest of the line-up on that stage? It’s a great stage to have, when I told my dad we were playing on the same day as Aerosmith he lost his mind!

AS AS IT IT IS IS

Hey Patty, so you’re playing Download this summer - do you have anything special planned for your set? We always aim to create a really fun and positive atmosphere, equally for us onstage and for everyone watching the set. If we’re having a shitty time, it’s like the crowd are having a shitty time, and vice versa. We’ll be playing all our fastest, catchiest, angriest, loudest songs, just giving the performance everything we have to give.

Are there any other bands you’re looking forward to saying hi to, or watching play? I’m an unashamed fanboy at festivals, catching as many bands’ sets as I possibly can throughout the day. Biffy Clyro and Coheed & Cambria were two hugely influential bands for me growing up. Both had this awesome disinterest for the “rules” of songwriting or how you’re supposed to be a band. I’ll absolutely be catching both their sets.

WHAT ARE THE BANDS

EXCITED

ABOUT THIS FESTIVAL SEASON?

THERE ARE BASICALLY ONLY TWO THINGS EVERYONE LOOKS FORWARD TO AT FESTIVALS. AND ON THAT NOTE, HERE ARE A BUNCH OF BANDS EXPLAINING WHICH ACTS THEY’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING, AND WHICH FOOD TRUCKS THEY’LL BE GORGING ON.

We love playing festivals! It’s a bit crazy for us, given how many we’re doing; Glastonbury is one we’re really looking forward to playing. We get to travel the world playing festivals again, which is awesome, and we’ll be partying at each one! Glastonbury is the one we’re most looking forward to; it’s the biggest festival in the world, and the amount of people watching – not just at the festival, but on TV – and getting to play the Pyramid Stage is something that’ll be huge in our career when we look back. BEN, ROYAL BLOOD

A highlight will be the Isle of Wight which is one of the only UK fests we are doing. Catfish and Arcade Fire... amazing line up. I love both bands so we will be sticking around for their sets too. After party should be a laugh. I love

the Isle of Wight as I have family there so probably end up back at Blackgang Chine for the hangover. Nice. Then Rod Stewart. Will be a top weekend. Ibiza Rocks is also gonna be great for us. We did the first ever one and have some seriously great memories of playing there, I believe we are staying at the infamous Pikes Hotel where we last time stole some pink flamingos. It’s where they filmed the video for Club Tropicana so we will be singing George Michael songs all night no doubt. And hopefully someone will lend us their boat and we can get out to the ocean. Clubbing, singing George Michael songs and then meditation. LUKE, THE KOOKS I’m looking forward to the exact moment we walk onto the other stage at Glastonbury. To see all those people and kick into the first song. I think that might be the greatest moment of my life. KIERAN, CIRCA WAVES

I think I’m mostly excited about Latitude because it’s the day after my birthday and it will be really fun. Latitude’s my favourite festival. When I heard that I was playing I actually freaked out, because I’ve been there like four times and love it. THE JAPANESE HOUSE

Tramlines festival is always a highlight of the year and as usual, the ‘fringe’ stuff is always the best. Find out which punk bands are playing at The Audacious Art Experiment or go get some pay-what-you-can scran at Foodhall - a freecycling food network that doubles up as an awesome gig venue. HEATHER, SLOW COACHES One of the coolest parts of playing festivals is getting to watch amazing bands that we might never get to see otherwise. We can’t wait for Indietracks Festival this year, because we hopefully can see The Wedding Present, Cate Le Bon, and Martha. GRETA, FRANKIE COSMOS

AN ACTUAL BLOODY SPICE GIRL!

I’ve played lots of festivals all over Europe but Isle Of Wight has to be my favourite. There is such a warm atmosphere whatever the weather, which weirdly is usually good. It’s a real feel good festival and the mix of acts there is always brilliant. I took my little girl when she was 3 and she loved every minute. I can’t wait to get back on stage there this year, it’s been too long. I’m playing on the Saturday so I get the best of both worlds, the buzz of performing then the fun of hanging out and seeing some great bands, I can’t wait to see Arcade Fire on Saturday night and Rod Stewart on Sunday. I’m so excited that Space are playing too! MEL C

Reading & Leeds has been a big festival for all of us since we were kids, and being asked to play the slot we’ve been asked to is an absolute honour. We didn’t have to think twice about it. It’s unbelievable to think that we’re going to be headlining a tent; we wouldn’t have imagined that a few years ago! It’s a nice way to celebrate the record being out, and I think it’s going to be a celebratory night, because a year ago we decided to do our album independently, and we’ve been shocked this whole time about how well it’s gone. We’re stoked about it; it’s going to be wild! MAT, WHILE SHE SLEEPS

37

Playing Reading is a big one for us. We haven’t got any more Reading gigs booked for a while now, so that’ll be the closest we get to a hometown show. We’re also going to go to some places abroad, which we never imagined we’d be doing; we’re playing Fuji Rocks in Japan, and we’re going to South Korea which is insane! And we’ve got festivals in Spain, Germany and Holland. That’s what we’re looking forward to, just getting out there and going to new places. It’s one of the best parts of being in a band; you get to go on a neverending ‘gap yaar’, and that’s what we’re really looking forward to. But we’re a British band; we know the importance of playing Glastonbury or Reading. We know what it’s about. We understand. It’s not like that with the foreign festivals; we love it, but we don’t have the same level of appreciation for it as we do

We’re playing Main Stage at 2000trees which is huge. We’re from very close to where ‘trees is held and we applied when ‘Smiling Politely’ was out. They told us we didn’t have enough Facebook likes. Oh, okay. We thought we could just come and play a tiny stage because you might want to support us because we’re local. We’ve ended up playing the past three years and for us to come back and play the Main Stage is a huge achievement. Can’t wait for that. BECKY, MILK TEETH

the British festivals, because we know what they’re about, we’ve been to them as fans, and it makes it all the more sweeter when we play them. MATT, THE AMAZONS It’s strange how having a summer off can make you miss festivals, it’s something I didn’t quite expect. So, bizarrely enough, I’ll be looking forward to just walking around and soaking up the ‘vibes’. Headlining the John Peel stage at Glastonbury will be good too. JOE, METRONOMY

I’m looking forward to seeing John Cale at Latitude, I hope my set doesn’t fucking collide with his, that’ll really piss me off but the Sunday looks really cool! I might potentially go Green Man or End Of The Road, I think End Of The Road looks pretty special. It’s got Bill Calahan playing, and Bill Ryder-Jones so yeah. MATT MALTESE

Community Festival in Finsbury Park. For a few reasons to be honest, Finsbury Park is just around the corner from Stoke Newington, which was my old stomping ground for about two years before moving to LA. I have a great love for this area of East/North London and intend on revisiting some of my haunts pre and post show! Haunts are Escocesa (amazing tapas/wine bar), Original Sin (underground speak-easy) and the Jolly Butcher for a Duchesse de Bourgogne

(sour beer). MURPH, THE WOMBATS Riot Fest looks great. We love playing in Chicago. It’s a really important city to us, and it’s always been a really good place for us to play. Really, really psyched about that one. GARY, THE CRIBS Fucking everything. We’ve got a busy season ahead of us, some announced and some not. Reading & Leeds will be amazing, The Great Escape is always a blast. I think just getting to hang out in the sunshine (or rain) with warm cans and cheap sunglasses. That’s the dream right there. Come live it with us. MICK, LIFE Last year at some UK festivals there was this really great food truck which sells vegetarian sushi burritos. Like sushi rolls but not cut into pieces so you can just stuff the whole roll in your face. I urgently need to eat that again. AMBER ARCADES

CITADEL 16TH JU LY 2017

Laura Marling, Wild Beasts and Bonobo are among the latest batch of names announced to play this year’s Citadel Festival.

LIVERPOOL SOUND CITY

2000TREES 6 TH - 8 TH J ULY 2017

2000TREES ISN’T SHORT OF A FAB HEADLINER OR FIVE THIS YEAR - IT’S GOING TO BE ONE TO REMEMBER.

BLACK PEAKS How has 2017 been treating you so far? Andrew: 2017 has been great so far. We hit the ground running with a headline run through January and the beginning of February which was so much fun. We finally got to take out our pals in Tigercub and experienced the sonic onslaught of Employed To Serve every night. Awesome. We have just got back from our tour supporting Bury Tomorrow, which was amazing. It felt like such a privilege to play those bigger venues every night. Have you been to 2000trees before? 40

We have played 2000trees twice before. Everyone is always so happy and up for a party. It’s our favourite UK festival. Are there any must-have items you try to take with you? Aside from the usual essential festival must haves, I guess biscuits? I have a bit of a habit - rock n roll I know! When the music finishes, a pack of cards and rum with my boys is never a bad idea… What do you think makes the perfect festival set? We spend a lot of time discussing this

at rehearsals. I think finding a balance between playing what you want, mixed with playing what you think the audience wants to hear is the best way forward. If you are having a good time, then chances are the crowd will too. What else have you got coming up this year? We are heading out to Europe for the whole of June to play festivals, some headline shows and will be supporting both The Dillinger Escape Plan and Architects on a couple of their shows which we are super excited about!

2000TREES HAS SIGNED UP A GREAT BUNCH OF BANDS THIS YEAR. From Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes and their top notch new album ‘Modern Ruin’ and Deaf Havana and their fan-voted set, to Dork staples Spring King and newer faves Muncie Girls, Puppy, Roam and Bellevue Days. You’ll also find this bunch here: Black Peaks, The Dirty Nil and Weirds, who’re super excited about their upcoming sets. Pay a visit to twothousandtreesfestival.co.uk for all the info, and pop in the code DORK_TREES for a discount on tickets.

THE THE THE DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY NIL NIL NIL

How has 2017 been treating you so far? Kyle: This has already been one of the best years of my life. Working hard on new music and touring our asses off. Have you been to 2000trees before? We have never been to 2000trees before but are looking forward to it. We’ve heard a lot of great things about it. Everyone seems to have a good time. What do you think makes the perfect festival set? Play fast. Play hard. Bleed. Smile. Have a good time.

WEIRDS So you’re playing 2000trees soon - have you been before? We haven’t - we’re super excited for it, heard a lot of artists say that it’s one of their favourite festivals.

What’s your favourite thing about playing festivals like 2000trees? Playing festivals is always fun- you get to hang out with other bands, discover new artists, and generally have a good time. Are there any bands on the line-up you’re looking forward to catching up with, or seeing play? We’re Looking forward to seeing Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, they always

put on a great show. There’s loads of Alcopop! and BSM bands playing too so it will be great to catch up with the whole gang. Are you going to hang around all weekend to soak up the festival atmosphere? Maybe. If we don’t have to be elsewhere. Although I once stayed at Beacons festival for the whole weekend just to catch the Fall on the last day, but the heavens opened with a vengeance, and their set got cut short. What do you think makes the perfect festival set? Just a great live performance, like any other show. Chaos, loudness, good songs. 41

THE 1975

If there’s a band better suited to a certain stage this summer than The 1975’s headline set at Latitude, we’ve yet to see it. Even Radiohead back on their Glastonbury headline stomping ground doesn’t feel as perfect a match as Matty and co in the Norfolk forest. As a final point for ‘I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It’, i promise to be something special.

GLASS ANIMALS

THE HORRORS

Dave may have been galloping around doing himself injuries, but no physical impairment will stop Glass Animals bringing their specific brand of odd pop to Latitude 2017. Just don’t try and order a pork soda from any of the food vans. It’s an eclectic festival, but not that eclectic.

It wouldn’t be totally unreasonable to expect an early taster of new material from Faris and Co at this year’s festival. Known for finding ways to make hyperspace style jumps forward between records, there’s every chance of a real sonic revelation in Henham Park this July.

MARIKA HACKMAN Marika’s second album is nothing short of a revelation. Already proving herself as really bloody brilliant on her debut, by enlisting The Big Moon as her backing band on the follow-up she’s found a way to make sparks fly. Make sure nothing is flammable

TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB Two Door Cinema Club were supposed to be Latitude headliners. back in 2014. And then they weren’t. Illness led to the band being replaced by Lily Allen at the top of the bill. Now they’re back to put things right.

Lorde will also pay them a visit, along with James Blake, Linkin Park, Blink-182, Charli XCX, Alt-J, Beth Ditto, Mura Masa, Savages, Declan McKenna and loads more. Speaking of Declan McKenna, have you seen his twitter recently? It’s our fave. Two thumbs up. His debut album ‘What Do You Think About The Car’ is out in a bit. 44

She joins a bill that already features Wild Beasts, Fickle Friends, Lewis Watson, Milk Teeth, Bad Sounds, Fish, Strong Asian Mothers, Shame, Superglu, Childcare, Ider, Kagoule, Catholic Action and tons of others. Victoria Park’s annual day of summery festivities returns this year with a typically buzzy line up featuring Loyle Carner, Hannah Diamond, Run the Jewels, Aphex Twin, Nicholas Jaar and loads more. It’s basically a who’s who of namey names that’ll impress those muso know-it-alls down the pub. And that’s not all. The best bit about Field Day could well be Village Mentality, which is set to return to the Village Green and features fun and games for all. (We once won some sweets on the Tombola. It was great. True story.) The 2017 games will be themed around ‘doubles,’ to mark Field Day hitting its first double-digits birthday - ten years old - exploring ideas from “dual identity and parallel realities, identi(kittens) to dopplegangers.” No idea what “identi(kittens)” is, but it sounds great, doesn’t it?
