Read Write Poem was a 100-percent volunteer and participant-driven online literary journal and social network that gave poets the opportunity to connect by sharing their work, discussing poetry and being part of a unique community whose focus was on supporting poets at all levels in their exploration of verse. The words “read” and “write” in the title point to the importance of both reading and writing poetry in the discovery of one’s own voice and practice. The terms also point to the “read-write” culture made possible by the internet, which — along with free and inexpensive content-creation tools — has given rise to consumer-producers by enabling anyone with an internet connection to share their work and engage in important discussions about what matters to them.
