EDITOR’S LETTER Catalina Magee Editor-in-Chief

What is your purpose in life? Why are you here? How can you discover what that is? What is it that you love doing seven days a week? What is it that puts a smile on your face? What would make you happy now? How can you make others happy? How are you contributing to a better world? Look inside your soul. Look back in your childhood. Search deep within and around yourself. Everyone wants to find a way to determine the answers to these questions, because that is what will help them make the proper decisions to find guidance in their lives. This is what gives people all the purpose and motivation to connect with each other, to work hard, and to know how to reach their goals. You have to know what you`re doing it all for. Why is it that you want what you actually want? We get one life, therefore one opportunity. During your life, you have only one chance to do whatever you`re going to do to make a difference or reach a goal that would make you happy. What are you going to do with this chance? What are you going to do today? So many of us choose our paths out of fear, guilt, pressure or commodity. What we actually want seems like an unattainable dream and we never dare to challenge ourselves to achieve it. We`re locked into a dark, insecure world, and that is how we attract the wrong people, take the wrong turns, and make the wrong decisions. Yet, all today`s flaws and qualities, begin during our childhood. If you love the child inside of you and you accept who that person is, you will become the happiest grown-up version you can be. If you free yourself from the sadness of your past and extend your circle of love and compassion, the Universe`s beauty will give you what you are. When you grow up, everyone pitches their version of the world in your head. They program your brain and plant an image of the world that might not be beneficial for you. None of them say that everything around you, which we call life, is actually made by people that are no smarter than you. None of these people seem to know that planting love into your mind is actually the only thing they have to do in order to offer you a bright future. When you`re a child, people ask you all kinds of questions about your future. At times it seems as though they can`t wait until you`re no longer a child. Do you remember what your childhood answers were to those that were asking what you wanted to become or what you wanted to do when you grew up? My answers varied each time; from: “a good, happy person”, to “the Ambassador of Peace” to “a world traveler”. I often find myself wondering if time is mostly inside of us and is just a belief of our perception; if our souls know from a very young age what would make our lives worth living; if we`re all here for a purpose and which would that be. Also, when we grow up and look back at our childhood, how can we be inspired by that young and innocent version of ourselves? Is there anything to learn and when are we wise enough to catch this lesson? See, when you`re a child, you want to move mountains, but when you`ve matured, it`s good enough if you at least climb them. I want to say that I listened to that child, and not only watched her grow up, but also maintained her once innocent spirit. All I ever wanted since I was a child was love, and now is my chance to get it, by giving it to as many people around the world as possible. And as I learned a lot from my childhood, and know that each of you had one too, I know that you absorbed a lot from yours as well and that you also have a dream. I know that you have talents and skills within yourself that you haven’t even discovered yet. You`re a great person, and the world is a better place with you in it, no matter what you think you are or have today. My childhood answers are what made me create a humanitarian magazine. I honestly believe that it`s better to have things to live for, than things to live with. I believe that “giving back” is doing the right thing, which is living not just for me, but for something larger and much more fulfilling. When I help, I gain a certain feeling of personal honor and that is something that I think everyone should feel. Every once in a while, you`re tested on how good of a person you are and how you can make a difference in the world. I hope that you all have a noble ambition of wanting to succeed life`s most important tests and the compassion to always “give back”. Eventually I want Trend Privé Magazine to become a movement. One day, I want to be old, and look back at my life smiling. I want to see my family of artists connected, helping each other and fighting for a better world. I want for our readers to be inspired by our artists. There is more to every artist`s story than I could ever try to convey, but if a reader is even marginally inspired, I will feel as though I have accomplished a great mission. This edition was an ensemble of great artists and beautiful people that came together in the vision of my amazing adopted sister. Her light and energy have always pushed me to find the answers to those lifelong questions mentioned above. I dedicate this issue to her, and it`s been created in a way that I know she`d cherish the most. I love you Adriana (aka Gaggea mia)! Hope one day we`ll be old, smile and read all the Trend Privé Magazine issues together. :)

PLUS SIZE GUIDE by Brittany Clendenning Being a Beautiful Woman When a daughter is born, she is innocent to the world around them. She knows nothing of physical beauty and she has no concept of shame. However, a child so small and carefree in today’s world already has a list of characteristics that must be placed upon her, so that she can fit into the mold that society has demanded. She must be smart, but not too smart. She should be slender and tall, with a golden clear completion and a perfect button nose. Her eyes should be big and bright, and mouth should be shaped with a perfectly plump curve. Her body must be the correct measurements when she is older, because if they are not she will have to spend more time and money in order to achieve such demands. Why do we agree to let others tell us why nature chose to ruin our chances at the social standards of beauty, and cast guilt on ourselves for not being given these attributes at birth? Through all of history women and men alike have been judged on their physical characteristics. Egyptians wanted their women to have a high narrow waist and valued perfect symmetry in a face while the Chinese demanded a slender petite frame with feet so impossibly small they were broken in half. It was in the renaissance that a fuller bodied woman was more desirable, but only because it represented her husband’s wealth. So, to be completely honest, body impression is no modern phenomenon. What has happened in recent years though is the amount of pressure that is put on us to look a certain way. It was when women were flaunted on televisions and magazines that our society began outwardly putting demands on what was needed to obtain this cultural beauty. One moment in history an hourglass figure was promoted with larger upper and lower body portions, ten years later you had to look rail thin with big doe eyes, or jump another decade and the public was looking for a physical goddess with long lean legs as well. In our society today we are expected to have so many attributes to be physically beautiful that many women are not comfortable with whom they are.

Why can we find beauty in a flower field with thousands of colors, shapes, and sizes, but we cannot find beauty in ourselves? Our culture dictates how we should be perceived, and even though we don’t like it we still agree to it. We need to stop and think for just a moment, how life would be so much easier if we did not care how others thought about how we looked because we did not fit a design. We as women are each so unique and special. We should be able to choose what we want in life for ourselves, instead of letting others dictate who we are as people from what we do not look like. No matter who you are every woman has the potential to be beautiful just by being themselves. Instead of putting on a mask of makeup so the world can see you as beautiful, just do it because you like to not because you have to. Look in the mirror and instead of pointing out what you don’t want of yourself, express what you love. All women are beautiful. Somewhere along the line of history we have complied and accepted that we as women are only what others think of us, and they base their opinions on what we are wearing and how we look wearing it. What is even worse is that we know this is going on, but we as a whole judge other women by their physical appearance as well. We so desperately want to be accepted as beautiful in others eyes, that we feel it is admissible and fair to degrade other women around us in the process. Instead of shaming others and feeling guilty about your looks, find the beauty in being a woman. When you really erase what the media says about the perfect form, what do you see?

«A

happy smile, a es and a caring set of ey what every little bright mind is e ve while they ar girl should ha o they are in finding out wh Clendenlife.» Brittany ning

A happy smile, a caring set of eyes and a bright mind is what every little girl should have while they are finding out who they are in life. They should grow up in a world that is representing a healthy role model with an intelligent outlook who gives a positive influence on the world around her. She should not be bogged down with a need to look a certain way. There are some things that you just cannot change about yourself, and you should not have to in order to be seen as beautiful. As a society we influence our children on what is right, what is strength, and what is beauty. Yet, as a whole we have told our fair skinned girls they need to be darker, and our dark skinned girls they need to be lighter. We have instilled a sense of shame in girls who do not fit this nearly impossible role of beauty. We tell them if you do not have the right look, find a way to fix it. Slather makeup on over your freckles and pray for a perfect complexion, stop eating breakfast and dinner to thin out your waist, and change your hair to match what is the latest fad in beauty. Instead of altering ourselves, why can’t we just embrace our differences? Trend Privé Magazine 16

Y

our Little Black Dress

Looking in the back of any polished woman’s closet you will see the staple frock to fit any event, the little black dress. No matter the season, no matter the year, the little black dress is a must for every fashionable female making her way in the world. This chameleon of an ensemble can say a million different things about you or your fashion taste. One may be sweet and flirty, fierce and sassy, or even polished and timeless all in one hue. But, when was our little best friend born into the world of fashion? In 1926, at the height of a roaring frontier, American Vogue showed the world sketches of a simple piece all dressed in black crêpe de Chine. This little beauty, with her thin long sleeves, was introduced by the ever so feminine Coco Chanel. To make her statement dress an even bolder allure, she tied her sheath up with a pearl necklace on top. The world was captivated, and gained a following for the color that was once only dawned in funeral attire. This dress was a dramatic change from the brightly garnished apparel

that was worn by every who’s who the years prior, and instantly the noir dress was a success. Even now when one strides into the picturesque boutique along the Champs-Élysées, or waltzes into the massive collection held on Bond Street, you cannot miss a sample of our primary gown. Our little black dress is always there, as she was in the beginning, and like a companion she carries us into elegance with confidence.

H

ow Your Little Best Friend Can Help You

If you do not already know your figure shape, look in the mirror and determine the curves of your body. Find the width of your shoulders, the size of your bust, and the curve of your waist and hips as well. When you make sure to have an honest critique of your body, you can gift yourself with a beautiful ensemble as well. Picture a thin line connecting your body from the head to the toes. A Straight figure has a very small contrast in bust size, waist and hip definition. You will want to look for a dress with a flared end, such as an Empire waist or an A-line skirt. These can help to accent a curve to your body that may not be as dramatic as you would like. Lucky you can also pull off a dramatic one-shoulder style, or even the trendy sheath and classic shift. A Pear is a delicious bottom with a sweet smaller top. When going shopping you will want to try and find a fitted dress to show those candied curves. An open-neck or even a strapless style helps to draw eyes to the upper half of the body, where a full A-lined skirt helps to cover wider set hips. An Empire waist can even help to show the smallest part of your body, by accenting your top beauty and fitting flair to the bottom. Another tasty shape is the Apple body. This shape is a rounder top, a wider, and a narrowing of the ribcage down to your tiny waist. Think of an inverted triangle, pointing downward towards your feet. A flirty circle skirt can help to create an illusion of a full bottom half, while neck details create a spotlight on your gorgeous top. The Empire waist helps to create a loose fit from your waist down, making you look much smaller and takes attention from your middle. Look for a simple shift dress when trying to balance all of the above. For your shape the best is a Full Bust. Your narrow shoulders and small hips help to accent the lovely larger bust on top. Look for something that not only accentuates your top, but supports your size as well. A V-neck helps to create a slimming effect by drawing the eyes down. Adding details at the hem of a dress helps to balance the bottom, while a halter and wrapping top secures your best assets. If you have a narrow waist, a larger bust, and full hips you are the captivating curvy body that is the Hourglass. Look for a dress with a nicely fitted waist to elaborate on your feminine physique. A sheath dress with show off those hips, that bust, and your tiny waist. Women, much like everything else that is beautiful in the world, come in all different shapes and sizes. Experiment with clothing choices that you love, and that love you in return. The best thing to do is to flaunt your accents in a way that helps to bring out your natural beauty and allows you to feel more satisfied with your shape, because a sexy woman is a confident woman.

T

he Real Red Bottoms

In the early 1990’s a shoe line was introduced to the world from Paris with love. The soles were painted in rouge, and the famous red bottoms were produced skillfully by Christian Louboutin in 1993. The hard work and dedication put into each shoe is immaculate, so why waste money on a pair that is less than? Millions of fake, false, and phony Louboutin shoes are manufactured and sold across the world, but not without reprimand. The red sole is a trademark for the shoe brand. A reliable pair has a leather bottom painted in a glossy striking red. If the bottom of the shoe is a plastic, rubber, or even resin then they are tampered with or counterfeit and worthless of your time. The bottom of the shoe is so important, that it is recommended you try on your shoes in a carpeted area first. One sign of a scuff and the shoes are deemed unreturnable. On the sole is a stamp that has the logo evenly placed. They are always in European sizes, and if ordered in a half size they are in fractural numbers right under the logo. One thing that makes a woman fall in love with a pair of heels is the design. The heel itself is a work of modern innovation, from the slope of the shank to the arch in the pitch. Make sure that your Louboutin shoes have that smooth refined slope. You want to look for a natural curve and nothing too stiff. The toe box should be slimming and feminine; if you see a boxy ill symmetrically built pair step aside. The last thing you can look at is the actual decoration of the shoe. If the shoes are not perfectly polished in every way, there is something wrong. The beading is precise, the print is polished, and the straps are evenly placed. Even the insole of the shoe is cut with grace, not a thread out of sight. Each insole has a ‘Christian Louboutin’ logo near the heal, with a ‘Paris’ written bellow. You can even spot a phony Louboutin from just its packaging. The box your dream pair of shoes should be in is like a pretty present. The box should be a creamy sandy brown with a polished white print. The box needs to be strong and sturdy, no denting in the corners or rips at the seam. On the side of the box placed evenly there is a white label that states the information of the shoe as well as the logo. The print quality should be clear, and the lettering should be quality. Inside the box, along with your shoes, is an accompanying red dust cover with the logo in black. Depending on the shoe, there will be one or two bags. The shoes must fit perfectly in the high quality fabric, and be able to close with the rope drawstring. These shoes are a work of true craftsmanship. The creativity and expertise put into each piece is time consuming and laboring. So, remember that working those extra hours to buy a pair of true Christian Louboutin shoes pays off. Artisans deserve their recognition, and you will feel so much better flaunting a real piece of art. You deserve it. «If I want to spend silly money on shoes, I can go to Stella McCartney, who doesn’t use any dead animals in her fashion line, or many other online companies, including Alternative Outfitters (USA), Bourgeois Boheme (UK) and Beyond Skin (UK) to name but a few. Even the designers that use leather may have shoes that are not made from living beings; Christian Louboutin & Prada have both made cruelty-free shoes (request they make more).» (https:// animalethics.wordpress.com/)

Eugenie`s

Voice

This continued until I graduated, and began working for a TV channel, where I met a well-known model, Katya Zharkova. We worked on the same show; her as a producer, and I as a screen writer. One day, she looked at me and said, “You should try modeling. You have good height and good proportions.” Within a couple of months, I left my job, as modeling began to bring me double the money that television had. Now it seems funny to me, but at that time I was shocked that my customers found me beautiful. I was raised seeing beautiful pictures of gorgeous, slim girls in great magazines; they seemed as unattainable as angels, and there was no way I could relate to them. I got to know myself though the pictures taken at the photo-shoots. I saw in them a completely different girl than I thought I was. That was amazing and was the point where my woman’s self-confidence began. But nothing changes you as much, or makes you as confident as a man who loves you. All said above is only a story of how I got into modeling. I started to love my body only after I saw the admiration in the eyes of a man who loved me; who loved all the small imperfections of my body—a belly or rolls around the waist. He even got stressed if I started to lose weight. (laughing) About the industry

Eugenie Dulot Diversity And Confidence: Two key words of contemporary plus-size modeling. By Trend Prive Magazine Writer, Florenta Popa/

The world of plus-size modeling is much more democratic than the world of standard modeling. First of all, plus-size modeling doesn’t have these rigid standards regarding measurements. The 90-60-90 idea doesn’t exist for plus-size modeling, the main physical rule for a plus-size model is that you have to be proportional and at least taller than 175 cm (clothing always looks better on a tall girl, especially if it’s clothing for a plus-size woman - it is obvious that the same size of clothing will look better on a tall girl than on a shorter one). The democracy of plus-size modeling is about accepting any body type. It is less about weight and modeling proportions than the standard fashion scene; it is about accepting imperfection of your own body and loving them, so the imperfections turn into perfection. The plus size industry is not only about overweight models on the runway/editorials/look-books, it’s about peace with you, your body, and mind. This is why fashion blogs, magazines, and plus-size models nowadays get such huge response from people: men and women, alike. That is why the two key words for contemporary plus-size modeling are diversity and confidence. Diversity gives you the right and possibility to be the one you are, no matter how different. Confidence - because beauty is not a size, it’s a state of mind. Eugenie`s favorite clothing designer

About men and self-confidence I can tell for sure, that modeling made me look at myself completely different that I used to. I grew up in a conservative family and until the age of twenty, my mom didn’t allow me to wear mascara or paint my nails, and she was worried about me being overweight. In my family, it was much more important to be smart, than to be pretty. After our equivalent of high-school, I got into the biggest university in Russia to study as a television journalist. By that time I was ashamed of my fat as I believed body, and I didn’t think I could be beautiful. I was wearing wide clothes, hiding what I believed was my unattractive body. Trend Privé Magazine 20

One day I would love to work for Ralph Lauren. In fact I am greatly inspired by Robyn Lawley, who was the first plus-size model featured in Ralph Lauren’s campaign. I hope the brand will go further and create a whole line for plus-size women, and even start creating high-fashion collections made especially for women who differ from the 90-60-90 standards. Especially when the market nowadays promises a good profit to companies launching plus-size brands. Demand for good quality plus-size clothing is growing on the fashion market as more and more women want to look and feel beautiful in their size and they won’t hold back any money to get what they want.

Seasoned photographer, Victoria Janashvili, brings an innovative, dynamic perspective to the industry. She has an extensive background working with some of the most notable publications globally, but her most recognizable works are those that she has shot for body image awareness campaigns. Victoria has quickly become recognized in the plus size business for her nude images of curvy models. Her focus in the photography industry has remained consistent; it is to share her vision and version of beauty. This is what sparked the inspiration behind her first book, Curves, which will be released in July 2015. Whether shooting size zero or size 20 women, Victoria’s work uncovers the true beauty of her subjects, which is never their physical appearance; it’s their confidence. Victoria didn’t always see photography in her future. She spent her teenage years working for the UN before she went on to study law and economics at LSE in London. It was there that Victoria met a fashion photographer that invited her to assist him on shoots. From there Victoria left law school to study photography at London College of Fashion, while also assisting full time. Two years later she moved to NYC to

TIPS

Confidence comes from getting it right. Being yourself and understanding that perfection is overrated are the key. Our imperfections are what make us unique. Look at Sophia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor or Jennifer Lopez, for example. They never fit the traditional mold, yet they became famous for their curves. And today`s most sought-after celebrities- Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Beyonce and Kate Uptown are not model-thin, but yet high caliber fashion designers are begging to dress them.

Dress to flatter your chest. Make all the attention go to the upper part of your body (face and boobs). Take the plunge. The secret to that is a strategic neckline, a dynamic mix of carefully picked colors (nothing tacky) and an optical illusion of perfect proportions. As long as the shape is slimming, pastel colors paired with other pastel colors or neutrals can lighten up and soften your look. Choose a top that`s slightly snug around the waist, classic corsets, peplums, button-downs with darts, tops that tie under the bust (which loosely drapes or skims the waist for a nice balance of proportions, equalizing the boobs and belly) and keep shoulders sharply defined. For sharply defined shoulders, ditchy fussy scarves, bows, collar embellishments and try bare skin, which is a trick for drawing the eye. For an office look or a professional situation, try being subtle about sexy assets by avoiding deep cleavage, midriffs and sticking with blazers that have small vertical lapels, defined cuts and a bit of shoulder pad. The pads will elongate the torso and the vertical stripes will create “length”. Also, for a thinner professional look, try a long-sleeved peplum with high-heels. Trend Privé Magazine 26

Dress to flatter

We gathered tips, wisdom, trick, optical illusions, camouflage secrets and little bits of magic that create flattering proportions and shapes for plus size ladies, because we all deserve to feel happy and pretty! The most important part is playing up your best qualities. If you have a smaller waist and feminine décolletage, wear dresses, tighter blouses, skirts and avoid wearing pants. Don`t try to look like the (photoshoped) models in the magazines. Most importantly, learn how to think in terms of proportions and understand which colors, shapes and sizes work for you. For most plus-sized women, the streamlined silhouettes feel more comfortable. Don`t bother with the ruffles, heavy fabrics, pleats or the over-the-top draping.

The best look for a plus-size lady is the classy look! Invest in a good dress or top with a well-cut neckline that exposes just enough (be careful not to expose too much), a bustier or bra that showcases a look of sharp shoulders, straps and sleeves that hold you up (yet comfortably) to reinforce your wanted shape. Ruching or draping at the bust (only) is a classy and smart way to trick a look, while it enlarges those who need it and it minimizes those who don`t. Fine, soft and luxury materials that elegantly contour or hint at curves might be expensive, but are a savvy choice and one that will make you look good, therefore feel good, and that will last.

1. Accentuate the qualities.

The wrap-dress made of silk jersey fabric is a great option for a regular shopping day. It flatters the bust, has enough stretch, a self-tie waist to hold you in and offers an effortless look. The best print for a regular summer day dress is high-contrast florals or abstract prints, which offer

Pastel

movement and are catchy to the eye.

According to the CDC, the average American woman is a size 14, and yet the dominant sizes in the modeling industry are 0, 2, and 4. In fact, not so long ago, plus-size models were around size 10-12, but that number has recently shrunk to an 8. At size 8, the plus-size models are considerably smaller than the average American women. A size 8 can shop pretty much anywhere a size 2 can shop, but size 14 cannot. Plus-Size Accessories Tips by

TPM writer Nogol

Zahabi

SIZE IS IMPORTANT. IF YOU LOOK AT HANDBAGS, LARGE SIZES WOULD BE A GREAT CHOICE. A BIGGER BAG WILL BALANCE OUT PROPORTIONS WHILE A STRUCTURED BAG WILL GIVE A CURVY BODY ANGLES. TOO-TINY BAGS AGAINST AN AMPLE BODY CAN LOOK LIKE A MISPLACED BROOCH, ESPECIALLY IF THE COLOR POPS. STICK WITH NATURAL COLORS AND NO BIG LOGOS OR BUSY PATTERNS, THIS WAY YOUR BAG WILL GO PRETTY MUCH WITH EVERYTHING. JUST KEEP IT SIMPLE AND CHIC. SIZE-UP THE SITUATION BY NOTING WHERE THE BAG FALLS. IF A SHORT-STRAPPED SHOULDER BAG HITS RIGHT AT YOUR UPPER ARMS, THEN WEAR CLOTHES THE SAME COLOR. IF YOU WANT TO DISTRACT ELSEWHERE AND ARE IN THE MOOD FOR A WILD, FUN LOOK INSTEAD, GO WITH PRINTS, A BRIGHTER COLOR OR SOMETHING EMBELLISHED.

Jewelry

Fine jewelry will add more class to your outfit. I wound recommend going for good quality and consulting with a jeweler about your outfit, style and what would suit you better. also, I would suggest picking a ‘Plus Size” celebrity you look alike and research her outfits and accessories.

Wear sleeves that shave inches. Just because your arms are covered, doesn`t mean your look is not sexy, or it doesn`t feel fresh. The trick is choosing a light fabric.

Watches are great in giving a fashion statement. You don’t need to have expensive ones. These days they come in different colors and styles. Change them from day to night and have some fun with them.

* Hair accessories are great if you keep them simple and just use natural color pins and clips. * Belts on the low waist with sexy tops are great, especially if they are beaded.

Give the bold shoulder with a supersized pendant or detail for a more intriguing look. Scarves are also a good idea (around your neck or hair), but in that case, stay away from busy patterns.

* The supersized scarf, aka the shawl, is a girl`s trick to adding a fashionable pop of color, but also keeping chill at bay and embellishing arms. * If you`re into the XXL Jewels and the «Go big or go home» jewelry manifesto, know that the shiny statement pieces will attract attention to or away from whatever you please; therefore one or two key pieces will provide all the dazzle you need.

Generally, the lower the cut of the vamp, pointier the toe, and higher the heel, the longer and leaner your legs will look. Matching the shoe with your skin toe will make it look even longer. Props to the classic nude d`Orsay sling-back with cutaway sides for being possibly the most flattering and comfortable heels of all times. Tops and jackets are an important accessory on a plus-sized lady as well. The trick to sleek-looking arms is a topper with tactical sleeves and armholes. You just need to ensure enough and visible space between your skin, sleeves, so that your arms will have a leaner look. Wear smart on your sleeve: make sure they end just below your freshiest no-show zone and avoid skin tight or clingy fabrics. Trend Privé Magazine 34

6 NEED-TO-KNOW MAKE-UP TIPS! By Erin Schweinsberg

www.facebook.com/erinschweinsbergmakeupartistry

TIP 1

TIP 2

Are you tired of having your foundation ruined during your eyeshadow application? Typically we all apply our foundation first and eyeshadow later, but on days when you’ll be wearing a glittery eyeshadow or loose eyeshadow dust, try applying your eye makeup before your foundation so that any mess is easy to wipe away without destroying the rest of your makeup! Once your eye makeup is complete, apply all other makeup and see how much time you saved- less clean up under the eye means less time fussing with cotton tips and concealer!

Looking for a way to make your eyeshadow more vibrant and bright? Tinted eyeshadow primers are a great way to neutralize the natural color in your skin, however, the best way to enhance an eyeshadow color is to coat your eyelid with a white eyeliner pencil- yes, white! Your natural skin color has warm peachy tones that can alter the eyeshadow color, it can tone it down and even cause the color to look dull; using a white base enables the eyeshadow to stay as true to the color as possible, therefore making it brighter!

TIP 4

TIP 5

Are your eyelashes uncooperative when it comes to curling? It’s time to heat up your eyelash curler with a blow dryer! You need to hold your curler in front of your blow dryer for just a couple of seconds- enough to warm it but also not make it too hot (test the eye lash curler against your hand first before holding it up to your eye), it will help those stubborn lashes curl up and stay that way all day long!

Use a disposable makeup wand as a brow tool! So many people spend money on eye brow gel, but here’s a tip from my cheat sheet to save you some time and money! Simply spray the disposable mascara wand with hairspray and then use the wand to brush your eyebrow hairs into place. It’s highly effective and eliminates the brow gel you had on your shopping list!

TIP 3

Most people want to know what colors make their eyes “pop”- so here’s the best way to determine what colors you should be wearing. Look at a color wheel and find where your eye color is, directly across from your eye color is the eyeshadow color that will best compliment you. For example, someone with blue eyes would suit orangey browns, whereas someone with green eyes would best suit purples. As we all have different shades of blue, green, brown, and hazel eyes; it’s best to play with different palettes that have multiple shades of the color you require, that way you can determine exactly what shade will make your eyes “pop!”

TIP 6

This is for the ladies that have clumpy mascara issues! Please note, your mascara should be replaced every 3 or 4 months, however; if you‘re one of those unlucky ladies that just purchased a tube 5 weeks ago and its already started going dry and clumpy, then this is the tip for you! Add a couple of eye drops into your tube of mascara and use your mascara wand to mix it in well, this will help loosen the mascara formula and eliminate the clumps that have formed, making the product soften and easier to apply- and clump free! This will help extend the life of your mascara, and also prevent you from throwing out your product sooner than you should!

Dalong Yang Interview by Florenta Popa Trend Prive MAGAZINE WRITER

Dalong worked for many designers as either a photographer or designer assistant. Alexander Wang and Jonny Cota from Skingraft are definitely his favorite designers to work with so far. When I asked him to describe them, he kindly said “They are both humble, nice, inspiring and hard-working. They make me feel that my devotion in working is very valuable and worthy. And their impressive business minds and superb creativity also make me believe that both my business background and photography background could be coordinated very well on my career path.” His family is from Beijing, but he was born in a traveling city called Guilin in China. “It’s the most beautiful city I have ever seen in my life: the mountains, rivers and plants... It’s famous for its natural sight- seeings and living conditions. And most importantly the people there are very genuine and nice. It’s so different from Beijing”. He loves photography and fashion since he was a little, so he told us how everything started: “By that time my elder sister was studying in England, and she was a part-time model. Her experience impacted me a lot when I grew up. Besides, I have a lot of thoughts which I could not express in words. So visual language became the way I show my inner-side gradually. My undergraduate background was marketing/logistics

but after having worked for business companies for a while after I graduated, I realized I want my life to be different. So I decided to get in master program for arts and specialize in photography. I want to be successful in my profession, not only because I like what I’m doing, but also because I want to encourage youths to be brave to chase for their dreams. Many kids around me either follow their parents’ wills to live their life or have never found their goals of life. I wish one day I could tell them that they are born to be dreamers by my story. Though I’m still trying hard to make it happen, that’s surely part of my plan in becoming a great photographer. A magazine editor once described my work “ has a mysterious, perhaps supernatural nuance”. I really like the way he talked about my work. In fact I got of inspiration from my childhood supernatural experience. Even for now I still could hear or see something unusual sometimes. I was terrified when I was younger but now I totally accept it. It became part of my life”.

We live in fashion

and fashion defines us...

hot read

about fashion

What does fashion mean to you? What about beauty? For me fashion means everything we live with. The jeans we wear, the colors we love, the phones we use and even the food we love could be fashion. We live in fashion and fashion defines us. Beauty for me means composition. Anything or anybody’s beauty could be brought out even they are in the right composition. And this is also the most important factor in photography in my opinion. Which one of the Alexander Wang’s muses- who signed on for being the new faces of the latest collectionscould be your muse as well? Which one would you choose? Definitely Anna Ewers. She’s a total muse for not just Alexander but also we photographers for sure. What captures your attention in a model? Eyes. Models whose eyes could tell stories definitely get my attention.

What’s your first favorite subject to shoot? What about the second favorite one? My favorite subject to shoot is definitely models in high fashion. As a fashion photographer I’m really into creating my own compositions by models and garments. My second favorite project has to be streets. I started my career by taking pictures of random people and stuff on streets. The interesting stories I got made me go further for photography. Your favorite lens to shoot… and why? My favorite lens is definitely Canon EF 50MM f/1.2L USM Lens. Because the lens has a large aperture and it functions very well under dim lights. It helps me come up with nice pictures that look very soft and peaceful. How long was the transition from hobbyist to paid professional? It took me for about 3 years because my background was business major until I got in a MFA Program and started taking professional studio photography classes seriously. So I had learned photography by self-taught for a long time. What has been some of the best advice given to you by another photographer? I can still remember that when I firstly met my mentor Warrent, he suggested me to go to fabric stores to touch and recognize different kinds of fabrics. I was like...hmmmm...interesting. But then I found his advice very helpful because as a fashion photographer, knowing the fabric of the garments I shoot with, is very important for creating the lighting and the retouching afterwards. Each type of fabric has its own feature. Do you personally prefer black and white or color- when it comes to your photos? I love both in fact. Black and white is always strong, mysterious and classical, but colors

make the world I create in my photography work fantastic and fun. And outdoor or indoor? I do a lot of editorial photography in studio for magazines or brands. But I like shooting outdoor more. It’s because I like surprise. Sometimes when I shoot outdoor, I could suddenly find some interesting compositions or elements by random architecture or natural lights. The randomness often inspires me a lot. Could you give us few names of photographers you admire most? On a scale of 1 to 10, how much did each of these few photographers inspire you? My favorite photographers are Tim Walker, Guy Bourdin and Man Chen. I’ll give them all 10 because I can never get enough of their works, which make me believe that they are perfect in what they are doing. Do you use to listen to a specific kind of music when you work in the studio? Does music inspire you? Does music influence your mood? Music is my favorite besides photography. I actually spend at least 2 hours listing to music everyday. Music does affect my mood. I don’t really have a favorite type of music but I do like finding interesting music from movies or TV shows. They help create many inspiring images or scenes in my mind. For how long does your camera’s battery last when traveling and discovering new places? It really depends. Usually I take 2 to 3 batteries with me when I explore a new place with my camera. You never know how many interesting people and stuff you could meet. My memories often come all of a sudden. That’s why I always bring my camera with me. I don’t want to miss any adventure in my Trend Privé Magazine 37 life.

interview with

Jesse Lipscombe by TPM EDITOR RALUCA IORGA

He is famous, charming and a motivational example of success. From being a part of Emmy nominated television shows – Children of the Dust and Hell on Wheels and ESPY nominated film – Resurrecting the Champ, to being ranked the 6th athlete in the world in high jump and listed on the top 20 under 30 entrepreneurial award in 2007, Jesse Lipscombe is that kind of winner that takes it all. A very talented actor and singer in a top athlete body, with businessman skills...this is something really hard to find in only one person. Though, his passion for each of these fields led him to celebrity. I met him in Bacaro Jazz Bar in Venice, where he was having dinner while preparing the script of the next dayfilming project, VIP’ness, a new TV show he is producing for Mosaic Entertainment. “ What is the TV show VIP’ness about? VIP’ness is a reality show about Randall MacDonald – a somewhat regular guy who finds himself in the most extravagant parties on the planet. He took his life from a place of low self-esteem to a place of self-love, and now he gets to experience the world on a brand-new level. The show also has Randall knocking items off his Bucket List, which he pronounces “bouquet list,”so we follow him around the globe doing these things. When somebody read your biography on the internet, it’s all about winning. I don’t want this question to sound like a cliché but… what’s the story behind your success? How did you motivate yourself to be the best in all the fields you’ve chosen to attend? An author –Mike Dooley – I met several years ago coined it best. He said “thoughts become things,” and if that’s not the truth, I don’t know what is. At a very early age I began visualizing or day-dreaming (jury is still out on which one) about what I wanted and what I could be. As I grew up, my imagination never stopped. I was living proof that you could do anything if you wanted it hard enough. The story behind my success is twofold: a supportive family that allowed me to dream, and an ability to not let fear paralyze my curiosity. It doesn’t mean the journey was easy. It wasn’t – but it was rewarding and it continues to be.

It`s not the look,

The height, or the appearance that creates sexiness...

How did your childhood influence your professional carrier? How would you describe Jesse the kid? Jesse the kid was very energetic and curious. I was probably a little too rambunctious for most people. Because of that, my parents were “forced” to put me in a number of activities: track and field, dancing, gymnastics and basketball – all were there to try and drain the energy bank.

My childhood influenced my professional career in a number of ways. As a child (grades 1-4) I remember being really athletic and competitive. I remember that I struggled to keep friends because they did not want to play with me at recess because I would always win at the games we played and it was not fun for them. At that time I chose to not try as hard to keep my friends around. Little did I know how that would affect me in my later years. I find it funny that being good, successful or shining bright and being proud of it rubs people the wrong way. I’m not talking about arrogance. I mean being able to celebrate wins without alienating those around you. As I grew up, I had to make a lot of choices in regards to staying close with friends versus pursuing my dreams without looking back. When I became fine with who I was and loved myself, I was grateful to attract like-minded people. Specifically, this course of action allowed me to meet the love of my life and life partner. You were saying in an interview on racinenoire.wordpress.com that you have a long line of Black History in your blood. Can you tell me more about this? My great-great-aunt Bessie Coleman was the first black woman to fly an airplane. John Ware, a pioneering black Canadian cowboy, had a daughter who married a Lipscombe. My grandfather, Rollie Miles, was a hall-of-fame CFL football player. Dividing your name in two, I’ve noticed that it is made of an interesting combination of words “lips” and “combe”. I could develop a story about the meaning of your name but is there any real meaning, though? There is no meaning as far as I know. Like most black North Americans, the name came from the slave plantation my people came from. My family’s was in North Carolina and the original Lipscombes were from Sussex, Germany. You are a very charming presence. Do you think that your charisma played a main part in achieving success? (Blush) ahh, thanks! I would guess that charisma plays a part in every part of life… sometimes good, sometimes intimidating, but always me. It’s not something I put on – it’s just an expression of my joy for this life I get to live, and life in general. Acting, singing, sporting or developing new business projects…if you would have to choose only one of them, which one would satisfy your soul? Great question. If I could choose what I love

most, it would be singing. But if it was based on skill, I would choose acting. Either way, I would be performing. Regarding your acting career, which was the role that suited you best…your personality? Suited me? I would say Leo McCracken in Resurrecting the Champ, simply because he was an athlete. The role in the upcoming film Forbidden Playground was my most challenging and rewarding – but playing a sociopath and a super-villain was a big stretch. You’ve been acting together with great names in the film industry. Who inspired you most? Hands down, Sidney Poitier! He gave me advice on being a black actor and what to expect moving forward in this business. Usually, for an artist is difficult to be a business man, too and vice versa. How come you have the both sides and how could you educate yourself to be good in such different things? When I was 13, my grandfather asked me a very important question. “If money was not an issue, what would you do with your time?” My answer was to be an actor, be a pro athlete and own buildings (I wasn’t sure exactly what I was saying). He told me that if I were to do anything else with my life, it would be a disappointment to the world and myself. Long story short, I put all my work into everything I was passionate about. I became a professional passion follower. Would you change something from your past, if you could? Which were the biggest mistakes you made? I don’t really believe those are real things. I’m exactly where I need to be right now and I believe I’ll be there tomorrow. Mistakes happen and I’m grateful for them because they’ve shaped me. If I deleted any of them, I’d be on a completely different path than I am now. You are so young and you’ve done already so many successful activities. What’s the next stage in your life? What’s left to achieve, in your opinion? I don’t feel like I’ve scratched the surface of what’s possible in this video game called life. I’m very passionate about the creation process. The next business phase is the release of FlowPower – a home fitness program I created, that will be sold to millions of people all over North America and then overseas later. Check out: www.flowpowerfitness.com

Plus-size What’s your opinion on Plus Size women? Do you think there is sexiness in an overweight person? My opinion of plus-size women is the same as my opinion of women. The “plus size” label is potentially alienating for someone who is already well aware of how the mainstream media perceives her and beauty in general. My opinion on women, however, is that they are too often marginalized, under-represented and unfairly expected to achieve an aesthetic appearance that men are not held to. I think there is sexiness everywhere. It’s not the look, the height or the appearance that creates sexiness for me. Sexiness is confidence. It is impossible not to be attracted to a confident person who is comfortable in her skin and excited about life. The easiest way to be proud of your body is to achieve things with it. Get active and find out how strong your body actually is. Find a program that suits your needs and stick to it, and don’t compare yourself with anyone else. Everyone is on their own personal journey and your progress will inspire someone else. Love yourself for who you are right now because it is precisely that person who will take you to where you need to be. How can the FlowPower program help an overweight person get in shape? FlowPower is a program that requires no additional equipment or previous athletic experience. It has three levels and can provide a challenge for anyone, but it’s still an unthreatening option for an overweight or sedentary individual. The fact that anyone can work out in as little as 15 minutes a day and still achieve great results is exciting.

HOT QUESTIONS What do you enjoy most in life? What’s the best thing a man can get during his lifetime? I enjoy teaching and mentoring. I get the most satisfaction from helping other people realize how powerful they are, and that there are no limits in what they can achieve if they simply (or not simply, depending on the person) believe it. The best thing a man can get during his lifetime is true love. No other thing will allow you to experience life to the greatest degree. That love might come from a wife, husband, partner, friend or child… regardless of where it came from, once you have it, life can offer you so much. Which is the new challenge in your life? My new challenge is to get as many people to read this story as humanly possible! In addition to raising my sons, of course, and being the best husband this planet has ever seen. As a motivational speaker, what’s your motivating message for anyone who reads this article? People often say that my life choices are risky because of the number of businesses I’m involved in: the arts, being an entrepreneur, etc.But I think the most risky type of behavior is to do nothing, to not move, to not try, and let life pass you by. ROMANO RICCI

Interview by Trend Prive Magazine writer Raluca Iorga

INTERVIEW

THE GENTLEMAN WHO KNOWS THE PERFECT SCENT OF A WOMAN The intriguing mélange of the dandyish look and an extrovert personality mixed with a little bit of mystery and that perfect dose of adrenaline a real man should own in his DNA, makes from Romano Ricci the most seductive perfumer I’ve ever met. And even if he has the “blue blood” of the Ricci Fragrance Empire, the young Romano created his own, unique, niche brand – Juliette Has a Gun - which conquered not only the most sophisticated women, but also the French Fragrance Foundation that has honored him with the “Special Prize of the Board” at “Les Parfums 2011” (FiFi Awards).

Everybody wants to know who is Romano Ricci the perfumer, but I would like to know who is Romano the man. Can you tell me a little about you, your lifestyle, your interests, your beliefs? I’m a Taurus. When I do something I go passionately and full throttle. I was surrounded by women all my life and have developed a real admiration for the gender. I love perfumery since always but most of what I see I find it a little bit boring. I was born in a famous family but what I do today is only personal. Nothing to do with an honor to my ancestors or other things I’ve read and never said. I hate when an article starts with Romano Ricci, great grandson of Nina Ricci… even if I also know that it is what people are interested in. You must be used to the following question, though, since this accessory is somehow a trademark of yours… what’s the story with the hat? Tell me more about your collection of hats, please.

HOTREAD Lady Vengeance was my first niche perfume and my favorite ever. Now it has a competitor in Gentlewoman. What’s the story of this new creation? Well, that is interesting to like these two fragrances as they are quite different from one another. With Gentlewoman, my idea was to propose a masculine fragrance dedicated to woman. So I have done this fragrance with a Cologne’s base meaning Bergamot, Neroli but twisted with Almond essence, which gives a discreet perfume but sufficiently dressed up to be worn with elegance. While Lady Vengeance is more sophisticated, maybe more striking too. But then, who am I to judge that kind of things?? In any case, I thank you very much for this great honor! When, where and in which dress code can a woman wear Gentlewoman?

your passion, your work?

Some people say that it is a summer fragrance, but I think that there is no season for it. I think it is an adaptable fragrance. But the best place to wear it… where you want to be kissed! The Gentlewoman allows herself to wear some man clothes because she doesn’t need to do much to express her feminine side. But that’s only my vision, of course.

It is always a risk to create a brand out of nothing, especially one called Juliette Has a Gun, but it was not my

Which one is the scent you like to play with most and why?

You will think that I have an obsessive-compulsive disorder but my collection of hats is made of only one model, replicated. I have around 50 of them, all coming from the same brand: Motsch. I’ve tried others but it is the only one I really feel comfortable with. I would also love to have other colors but they don’t do any. At my greatest despair!! As an adrenaline addict, which was the most dangerous decision you made in your life? How far would you go for

most dangerous move because it was always meant to be like that. I would never enter the perfumery just by saying “Hi, my name is Romano Ricci; I am the great grandson…bla bla bla”. I wanted to bring something to the industry, to shake it a little bit! How do your personality traits reflect in your products? Where can I find most of Mr. Romano in the Juliette’s scents? Being the perfumer behind the brand, the fragrances are inevitably the reflection of my personality or my mood. The extremism, the weakness for strong character, the colors, the attention to quality, the honesty, all these are very coherent with who I am. What was the main purpose when you decided to create Juliette Has a Gun? To bring a 28 years old creator’s vision on perfumery and femininity! Trend Privé Magazine 52

Not a Perfume I would say, because some people can smell it, some others can’t, also because you can mix it, so it is always a different and therefore very playful! Why did you choose to create perfumes only for women? Why not a brand for men, too? The same reason I have chosen the name, women are much more inspiring. What’s the new temptation in your life? Mmmmm, a Mickey Mouse Rolex!

Charlotte Tilbury www.charlottetilbury.com By TPM Senior Accessories Editor Adrielyn Christi Being an editor, I am exposed to a variety of products ranging from fashion, accessories, beauty and skin-care products. But I have to be truthful; what excites me the most are the beauty and skin-care items. There’s always the newest and greatest lipstick, face cream, night cream and serums! Oh my! But with the newest and greatest product comes the dreadful decision of what to buy, not knowing if it really works. Us women have it tough, right? How many women actually research on the particular brand of choice? I would say a very small amount, and that is due to the fact that we want that quick fix, jumping right into that face cream that really may not fulfill all of its promises. There is one product I can honestly say that actually fulfills their claims: Charlotte Tilbury! The widely recognized, most influential make-up artist, has come out with her own line of cosmetics and skin-care. Charlotte Tilbury Skincare

You might know her as the make-up artist who graces her presence at backstage fashion shows in New York, Milan, London and Paris. Charlotte has made her career in the make-up industry for over 21 years. Her client list includes Kate Moss, Penelope Cruz, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Kristen Stewart. She also works with designers such as: Tom Ford, Stella McCartney and Burberry. Charlotte Tilbury’s beliefs are that beauty should not be an exclusive club, and I have to agree. She wants every woman to experience the power of make-up and how it can transform your face and your life. Sounds simple enough, right? So, I sought to find out more about her and her products, and to see if her products can really transform my face. So I contacted her PR team, but unfortunately due to Charlotte`s busy schedule, I wasn’t able to interview her directly, but they graciously sent me an array of products for me try out. There are several products in which I had been hearing great things about and I really wanted to try them. The first was Charlotte Tilbury’s Multi Miracle Glow. This is a 3-in-1 skin remedy and first being a deep cleansing face balm with anti-wrinkle benefits; the second being a regenerating mask with an “overnight facial” finish; and a “go-anywhere” SOS remedy that you can use on cuticles, elbows, heels and shins. I first started using the cleaning balm, and I was very impressed to say the least. The balm has a consistency of smooth moisturizer and goes on creamy and effortlessly, not to mention the scent has hints of rosehips. Not only did it leave my skin feeling soft after I rinsed it, it’s the scent that stays on long after I dried my skin. I started to notice a difference in the texture of my skin, especially around my eyes and my mouth. When you get to a certain age, you start to notice little fine lines around the eyes and upper lip, and believe me, I will do whatever it takes to avoid any further damage, so this product came in very handy. Charlotte Tilbury Make-up

Since I`ve been using the 3-in 1 skin remedy as a cleanser first, now I felt it was time to try it as an overnight facial. Let me tell you, with the combination of using it as a cleanser first, and then the overnight facial, my skin looks even better. You know the feeling of trying something once and loving it so much that you want more? Well, that’s how I feel right now; I’m spoiled and want more. I want to try and have a myriad of Charlotte Tilbury skincare products in my beauty cabinet. Skincare is only just a taste of Charlotte Tilbury’s products, and makeup is what she is very known for. While in New York for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, I brought with me a lipstick from her lip collection called “Love Bite”. Can I just say I am the pickiest person when it comes to lipstick? The perfect lipstick for me must have the right texture, consistency and scent, but the scent is the deal breaker. If it`s something that I can’t live with while on my lips, then I don’t buy it, no matter the brand. The scent is a perk with Charlotte’s lipstick. Not only did I get a color that I received so many compliments on, but it was a perfect combination of everything I look for when purchasing a lipstick, and I definitely am a lipstick queen. Last but not least, are her eye-shadows: they`re fantastic! The good thing about Charlotte`s cosmetic products is that they are all made to compliment every skin and eye-shade.

BEST PURCHASE Let me start by saying that I do not wear eyeshadow on a daily basis, but the COLOUR CHAMELEON Color Morphing Eyeshadow Pencil for Brown Eyes is a shadow I have come to embrace as something I can wear every day. It`s really like a chameleon! It`s an eye-shadow pencil that is infused with synthetic sapphire, which enhances your natural eye-color. Wonderful, right? It really does what it was made to do, enhance your eye color. There are just too many products to praise throughout this brand, and you can take my word for it or go out, purchase a few and experience them for yourself. Charlotte Tilbury has made a name for herself in the make-up industry, not only as an artist, but as a product leader in the world of skincare and cosmetics as well. Her ‘Charlotte’s Magic Cream’, is well known in the industry for its use backstage by models and celebrities alike. Date with a Cool Girl

E

By Viktor Man

very time someone mentions their first date, I am instantly taken back to my teenage years and the secret home party I organised when my parents were away, and blissfully unaware of this event taking place. My memory of that time is so vivid that I can recall every detail of the evening in question all over again. I had known her at that time, but never really spoken to “the girl”. I recall the very first picture of us taken together as toddlers in the nursery, and another a few years later in a group school photograph from an event and then……she moved to a different school. We would occasionally bump into each other somewhere in town and exchange simple “hello” but that was all up until that stage. Then when we coincidently found we were in the same class at mutual language school. She was very intelligent – one of the highest excelling students at her school, witty, sharp, rebellious, well-read and popular with all the cool teenagers from our town. She would mesmerise all the newly befriended people with her personality and instant likeability - that’s what she did to me. Of course, I wanted to get to know her so I had asked my friend to enquire as to whether she would come to my secret house party. he arrived with a box of ice-cream, that I stupidly placed on a kitchen worktop instead of a freezer out of my excitement. She looked stunning and ethereal. Pale, china like skin,

short black straight hair, bee-stung like cherry red lips and blue eyes. That evening my fourteen year old heart was thumping like crazy, distributing oxygen to every single cell of my body within nano-seconds. I plucked up the courage and asked her to dance to Delicate by Terence Trent D’arby featuring Des’ree. Two minutes into the song I mumbled a question, asking her if she wanted to be my girlfriend. She said yes and confirmed my question with one innocent delicate kiss. So, we were a couple. I adored Anna and I was happy, I was in love, she was mine. Anna was beautiful, she was fun, she was cool, that’s what counted the most. However even in a fairy-tale world, its characters get surrounded by trolls and witches who are determined to make your life difficult. They would occasionally appear in our perfect teenage world and be incapable of seeing beyond the fact that Anna was a plus-size girl. In my eyes, she was perfect, amazing, beautiful and fascinating so I was hurt each time derogative comments were sent in our direction. We were that strange couple in the eyes of all the arrogant, ignorant and hypocritical imbeciles, but they did not break us. It certainly made me realise that being who you want to be is O.K. and, at that point, at the age of fourteen, I learnt one of my first life lessons – do not judge a book by its cover. I know, it sounds cheesy, corny, too sweet, a bit patronising,

but I do not care as it is still so relevant to this day and today’s culture. Perhaps we, as society, have become more open, tolerant and ready to accept differences now but have we ever thought about how our perception of beauty and fashion has changed over the last two decades thanks to daring photographers, designers, stylists and models of that period? In the late eighties and very early nineties we were led to believe that the likes of Chrissy Turlington, Stephanie Seymour, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Claudia Schiffer or Cindy Crawford – the supermodel pack, who would not wake up for less than $ 10 000 a day, were the embodiment of eternal beauty. However, the emergence of picture by Corrine Day of Kate Moss on the cover of an 1990 issue of UK style bible The Face was to abolish all the stereotypes and perceptions of the word beauty. The photograph of Kate Moss with her skinny figure, crooked teeth and freckles is now perceived as one of the most influential images by Corrine Day in the history of fashion that broke open the doors for girls who wouldn’t be seen as beautiful in the past historical decades. Through her work, Corrine Day has changed the perception of aesthetics in photography with sets that would not necessarily be associated with luxury, or style-ups that would not be perceived as the so called, “norm”. Thanks to this revolution, the fashion industry realised beauty is beyond the obvious, visible, and that the models need to have charisma and that little spark to attract the public and convey messages. This approach has been now widely adapted by many magazines and publications and it is ever so present, even despite the fact that many editors had been opposing it for quite some time back in the nineties. These days, seeing a model with tattooed head, pierced nose, imperfect smile, or semi-nude image of a curvaceous Beth Ditto on the cover of a high fashion magazine is neither shocking nor surprising us and is seen as amazing and beautiful. At the same time, over the past few years we have witnessed an emergence of blogs and online editorials in which their authors show off their personal styles, talk about their own take on fashion and are not afraid of showing who they really are. In fact, they use their personal traits and qualities to their own advantage which gains them more and more followers. To me, Krystel is just the embodiment of what all today’s fashion is about and what it has become after two decades of changes. She does not follow any fashion rules, nor conforms to any trends –she creates her own confident style through unique items she finds in vintage or charity shops. She does not pretend to be someone else, she is happy with whom she is and it’s quite evident when you meet her. Perhaps this is one of the things that draws people to this cool girl because, as once Emme said, ‘’great self – esteem comes from inside and feels hot and powerful.’’ That’s why I asked Krystel to be my Trend Privé Magazine 55 photo date for a day.

Today`s Venus Venus with the mirror Article and drawings by Nogol Zahabi

I sat on the bench next to her in the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC; in front of “Venus with the mirror” oil painting by Titan from 1555. She was stylish, wearing a long black dress, high heels and long, straight, black hair. I was working on a project, about another painting next room, and it was my third time seeing her while passing by. I couldn`t help but to sit and stare at this same painting. Out of curiosity, I sat next to her. My class was starting later that evening, so I had enough time to find out about her and this painting. Twenty minutes later, she noticed me. “It is a beautiful painting. Hi, I am working on a project next room and every time I pass by I see you here.” She gave me a glance and replied: “I have a special bond, a special relationship if you like, with this woman in this painting. It is Venus as you see. The Greek goddess of beauty. Titian, the painter, wanted to celebrate the ideal beauty of the female form, or to be a critique of vanity, or perhaps both. I imagine I am her. I want to be her. You see, I was born 400 years late dear.”, followed by a very mysterious, yet beautiful smile. “Sorry, I don’t follow.” “If I was born in the 16th century, I would have been considered a beautiful model and the perfect size, form and curves. People would`ve loved looking at me. Perhaps painters would have loved to paint me...” She became silent for a couple of seconds and then continued “I would`ve been happy.” I felt uncomfortable to say anything, but before I could react, she said : “Maybe you are curious to know how I feel! To be honest, I don’t feel great. Especially when I’m around women in small sizes. Look at this painting from 1955. In the Renaissance time plus-size women were considered beautiful. Have a look at Rubens paintings and others.... All women in these paintings are “Plus Sizes”. But then in the early 20th century, modernism appeared and painters like Picasso,.... stopped painting women. Years later when they started again, the meaning of beauty changed to sizes 2-4US/ 36/ 38 EU. Do you think it could change again?” Silence again. I looked at her. She had a beautiful smile. Knowing that I had to start moving to make it to my class, I said: “As Audrey Hepburn said: The beauty of a woman lies inside her eyes. The eyes are the window to her soul where you can find love. You have a beautiful smile, you are beautiful. Look at Melissa McCarthy, Jill Scott, America Ferrera, Toccara, Queen Latifah, Kelly Price, Kelly Clarkson, Mindy Kaling, Christina Hendricks, Kat Dennings, Oprah Winfrey..., all very successful “plus-size women. To be honest, I adore every one of them so much that I never thought of them anything except that they`re inspiring, strong and beautiful.” A couple of days later I felt like checking on her again and went back to the painting, but surprisingly she wasn’t there. I sat down on the same bench, when I noticed a folded paper stuck inside the corner of the bench. “Dear, your words touched my heart the other day. I can not remember the last time I heard anything positive and encouraging. My family, friends and neighbors looked at me differently. As a result, I look at myself differently. I became lonelier everyday. I lost confidence and happiness. I started feeling like a weird woman. But your words touched and encouraged me. I needed someone to tell me to stop being and feeling miserable. I bought some great designer dresses. And I will keep on smiling. Thank you.”

LIST

by TPM Writer Katja Nyquist

Back in February, during New York Fashion Week, we saw the runways as well as the street style moguls dominate the spring trends of 2015...in accessories that is. From statement earrings to long strapped handbags, the 70’s has made a big comeback, with a dash of late 1969 magic.

Ankle Flats We saw gladiator sandals blow up from 2011 to 2013, and then they went on the dead trend list. Now they`re BACK and hotter than ever with a new racy vibe to them. Gianvito Rossi and renowned shoe designer Nicholas Kirkwood (designed for Erdem), definitely put the sex-appeal back into this sleek leather shoe. Ballerina flats also got a new twist from designers this season Tabitha Simmons and Balenciaga, by adding a chic pointed toe with lace up straps, edgy embellishments, and bright bountiful colors, which are perfect for this season.

Platform sandals have always been a huge shoe in any fashionable woman’s wardrobe, especially for the spring and summer seasons. As we know of course, Prada has always been quite the star when it comes to this trend. They always seem to reinvent the platform sandal, with their quirky embellishments and impeccable materials.

Handbags Statement earrings have been around for who knows how long, they have been admired by many women, such celebs like Rihanna and Lady Gaga aka ‘Mama Monster’. This season`s Tory Burch has designed a pair that are a perfect blend of modern shapes and bright, yet elegant colors all in one.

Statement Ear-rings Lastly, from this spring`s runways, we saw a somewhat old, but reinvented upbringing in jewelry. Rock and crystal jewelry that is. Materials such as glazed Marble, shiny rock Quartz, and bright Agate stones. Jewelry pieces such as these scream summer down by the pier in San Clemente, CA. Or even, a chic late night outing or formal event, especially when it came to designer Monique Pean, and her use of luxurious materials.

Handbags/clutches are a must have staple in literally any woman’s closet. Their pretty much an essential, everyone lady has 1, or 10. Handbags come in all shapes and sizes, this spring season we saw medium sized bags with lady like and trim handles, and bold color blocking. A major 1970’s staple was also brought to the runways, designers like Charlotte Olympia put the summer in boho entirely. Using precise tan leather materials, with floral like imprints, turquoise stones, and a killer long braided leather strap.

the thread and the stiff canvas mesh, or if you like, the line and the grid. As such, the process is structural and systematic. The images that I chose are all referential of European tradition. Each leg is loosely thematic. There are nautical images that communicate travel, journeys, and the unknown, but also conquest, colonization, and the exchange of power, which is itself the most complex of systems. In addition, there are images of castles, chateaus, chalets, serene bucolic moments, and frolicking gentry. These images depict European idealizations and bourgeoisie aspirations. These images are interspersed with images of labor; fishermen, farm-maidens, and windmills, which remind that grandeur and luxury are not automatics, but rather the result of labor, oftentimes on the back of colonial manipulations as hinted by the support of the African fabric. The metaphor of labor is further hinted by the actual needlepoints which collectively have taken hundreds of hours to produce. Moreover, the issue of how craft, labor, and colonization are manipulated is acknowledged, self-referentially, through the relationship of the artist (me), the collected elements of the piece (the hand-made needlepoints as well as industrially produced fabrics), the many fabricators, and the finished piece itself. As such, the read of this work is complex, multi-layered, and abstract, and I hope the viewer is first visually enticed or stimulated, and then encouraged to contemplate the many issues inherent in the piece: Formalism and aesthetics, materiality and craft, art history, mythology, and folk art, as well conceptual and theoretical concerns regarding the many constructed systems that inform our perception of how we understand and therefore respond to our world. CC: What`s next in the works for you? What got you motivated and moved to create, and is there a hint at what it`s about? AL: While my motivations remain the same, the visual exploration and opening-up of how we perceive, there are several bodies of work in different media that are approaching maturation. Currently I am working on a new body of sculptures that continues my explorations using the materials of my visual language. The shapes are evolving and departing, and I am very excited about the different directions. In addition, I am working on mixed-media paintings and photographs. Next week we start shooting as I am honored to be chosen as the first BX200 artist to be selected for a podcast. I have an installation in Dumbo due in October I am excited about, and I will be going to Italy next year on a long residency, taking a welcome break from the pace and stimulus of NY.

Interview with Georgina Dee, a London-based designer who presented some great off-schedule shows during London fashion week such as Fashion Finest and The Catwalk Edit in 2015

E: Tell us a little bit about yourself. How did you get into the fashion designing? GD: I started designing clothes from a very young age and the hobby stuck with me until adulthood. Friends of mine saw my work and encouraged me to design a collection and after a lot of consideration I decided to give it a go. E: Was there anyone in your family who made you feel like designing? GD: My mom has always said that it is a useful skill to know because you can design clothes the way you want them. E: How did you launch your brand? Were there any obstacles during this process? GD: My collection was launched during London Fashion Week 2015. The biggest obstacle was coordinating my photo-shoot in time for LFW to create a look-book. Unfortunately this did not materialize in time and I had to get someone to model

the garments. However the photo-shoot is scheduled to be completed soon, which will be used for my website instead.

E: How do you balance creativity with commerce? GD: I vet all my designs with E: Do you have a specific friends and family to see if it is research process when you start something they love and would a new collection? buy. Based on their feedback I GD: For this collection I came would proceed with that design up with a concept and then or tailor the design to make it designed a number of garments more commercial. However if to reflect the idea. Once I feel strongly about a design I completed I would go ‘window would still design it as I feel you shopping’ and watch designer need statement pieces to make catwalk shows online to see your mark in the industry. if there is a market for my designs. E: What’s your greatest accomplishment so far? E: Do you feel there’s a GD: Designing my Spring/Summer significant interest for young 2016 collection is my greatest designers at the moment? accomplishment so far as I was GD: Yes, there are more and struggling with a creative block more opportunities now for for a while. Once I broke thought young designers to show this period many interesting their work like the London ideas came to mind. I am very Fashion Week - Fashions Finest excited about it as I feel it is my showcase. It is a high profiled more creative work to date. event so it provides young designers the platform to display E: What kind of feedback did their work and for it to be you get on your most recent noticed by influential people collection?

GD: Everyone who has seen my collection are already placing their orders, which is such a boost to my confidence as a designer as it is my first collection. E: Who inspires you the most in fashion? Anyone who stands out? GD: The major fashion houses like Channel, Dior, Prada, etc as they are always thinking outside the box and pushing the creative bar that much higher making you as a designer aspire to do bigger and better. E: Where do you see yourself in 5 years? GD: I would love to make this my full time career. Now that I have a manufacturer in Bulgaria (Hanna Boutique) who supports small independent designers hopefully this can become a reality. I would also like to be successful enough that I could expand the brand to incorporate ladies accessories, shoes, bags, etc.

Interview with Marco LaConte by TPM Magazine Editor Florenta Popa Marco LaConte is a talented photographer I worked with in the past, as a model. He is a self-taught photographer, who learned his photography skills through watching and traveling. Born in Milan, he studied philosophy at “Universita Degli Studi di Milano” and before becoming appreciated in the fashion industry, he worked as a photographer for theaters and music events. Since 1997, he has been working as a freelance fashion photographer. FP: How would you describe your work/your style to someone who has never seen it? ML: I think my work is the best possible compromise between my style (if you look very close you might find some hints of it… naturally rock’n’roll I’d say) and my clients’ needs. FP: What do you like best about your job? What captivates you most? ML: Nice chicks all around , what else ? ;) FP: How much time do you spend taking photos versus retouching photos? Do you retouch everything yourself or do you outsource? ML: Sadly I have to admit that half of the time of a shoot is dedicated to that nerdy time wearing my Elvis Costello eyeglasses : even when the job is outsourced or performed by one of my own private nerds there’s still always a lot to be done personally. FP: Do you ever return to the same location and shoot it again? ML: I do , I really like Thailand for example and I’ve been there a few times as you probably know … FP: Is there any specific place/city/island where you would love to shoot? Or any celebrity? ML: I like the big cities in general, especially the Asian ones, I like that feeling of discomfort when you realize that none is so much important for the world, that everybody is replaceable : I think this adds a much bigger value to the people that are really close to us, family and friends . Celebrities ? Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, Bowie, Nick Cave, many more … (and Rosario Dawson of course !) FP: The subject you always love to shoot is… ML: Besides Florenta Popa you mean? FASHION INTERVIEW with MSA MODELS Michelle Rudan by TPM Fashion Editor Joshua Seibert We live in a fast paced world with rapidly changing trends. Everybody who’s anybody has gone digital with technological advances, search engines and social media forums such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram at their fingertips. Magazine shelves are filled with gorgeous models, artists and Hollywood starlets worldwide turning our heads and taking expressive looks to new dimensions. Fashion platforms in New York, Los Angeles, South Coast Plaza, Las Vegas and more are constantly making our jaws drop, tourists gawking at new styles, and runway models define what “true beauty” is supposed to be. However, what does it really mean when people say “True beauty lies deep within”? Ellen DeGeneres said: “Beauty is about being comfortable in your own skin. It’s about knowing and accepting who you are.” 1. Where were you born and how did you begin your modeling career? I was born in Florida and started modeling when I was 12. I’m Latin. My Mother is from Venezuela and my father is from Cuba. After doing runway shows here and there, I began plus-size modeling. I’m currently working full-time in New York! 2. Who are some of your favorite legendary models? My number one is Robyn Lawley, she’s beautiful and down-to-Earth. Ashley Graham is a favorite of mine as well. She has a lot of clientele that I work with. 3. If you had to choose and we know it’s hard, who’s your go to designer? Where is your most ideal place to do a photo shoot? MICHAEL KORS and CALVIN KLIEN. If I had to pick I’d choose the beach. 4. Have you ever attended any Fashion Weeks? What was that experience like for you? Yes I have, I did the lingerie week in New York among others and it was amazing! I love doing runway. It’s fun. 6. Which Magazine on the shelves today inspires you the most?

Vogue without a doubt! 7. We saw that MSA Models Jourdan Whitehead was in Vogue, Brazil online! What are your thoughts on this? Yes!!! She’s a great friend of mine. My jaw dropped! She looks fantastic and confident. It’s a great feeling to see someone you work with do this! 8. The label “Plus Size” has received some harsh criticism. What’s your point of view on this? Personally, I don’t like to be called Plus Sized, every woman has their own figure and a different look and you can’t put us in categories. I’m actually on the smaller size and women say I’m not curvy. Why should you categorize us? I’ve seen the changes working full time in New York and this field has evolved so much! We like to be all natural. 9. How do you feel as a curvy model in 2015 in such a competitive industry? What makes you stand out against the competition? It’s becoming more and more competitive. Women are arising and becoming more confident. Many can be on the next cover. I’d have to say my personality makes me stand out. I’m very positive and down-to-Earth, which I think works. 11. For our younger aspiring readers, any advice on the pressures of the industry? In the curvy world, I have fans who have written me on Instagram and on Facebook and I say, “Be yourself! Don’t let anything bring you down!” I feel in general that people should wake up positive and give themselves a smile. Never let anyone bring you down. 12. What is the most impactful thing you would like to accomplish in your career? I have a lot of “visions” and I want to start my own line. I’ve always been into fashion. Staying into this industry has always been a dream. I’m making it happen and I’m doing what I love to do.

Gift ideas Need gift ideas for this season? If you are shopping for a girl who likes to experiment with color, shop for a matte orange-red lipstick. The velvety finish feels modern and sophisticated. Another idea is to buy a nail polish of a chrome color or a pastel mixed with a complimentary metallic shade that is very summery and chic. Shimmery eye-shadows make eye mesmeriz-

ing and could be a great summer gift. Peachy-pink or shimmery bronze blush create a fresh, youthful glow that every woman would like. Always shop animal cruelty-free and make sure she is not allergic to a specific product. If you`d like to stay away from the cosmetics, a wide-brimmed hat is made to shade and it could be a useful gift. This season`s best color for a hat is solid white. For more ideas, check out below.

idea 1 Homemade Cooking Book. Put all your love into creating a small cooking book and add your/ hers/ his favorite meals, with personalized pages (images of you, him/ her or the both of you eating the healthy meals).

idea 2 When it comes to buying a gift for a curvy person, I try to stay away from buying clothes or lingerie. Instead, I buy ELECTRONICS. The Otterbox Resurgence Power Case is a great built-in battery for iPhones and especially a major peace of mind when (inevitable) drops occur. If she/he owns a different brand other than an iPhone, there are endless choices on the internet. Buy at otterbox.com for $99.95

Finding Your Rhythm: Stelari Life can be as simplistic or as complicated as we wish. Having that choice is the beauty of life. The freedom to be you! Whether you set your own supernatural goals, live a healthier life or travel to an unfamiliar territory, all of us have the desire to let our true selves be known. Fashion is the most visible way to speak to the world without having to say a word! Within just a few seconds, you can tell a lot about a person by what they are wearing. An inner reflection of an outward expression is what fashion represents. So what do you represent? Who do you support and why? We all know what we like; yet some of us do not feel comfortable enough to fully let ourselves be authentic. Let’s challenge ourselves this year to let our inner being shine through in our clothes! Speaking of shine, Stelari is a new boho chic active wear and lifestyle brand that embodies a unique effortless style. Stelari‘s first season in active wear debuts with the „Tarot of the Bohemians“ collection. Based on vintage tarot cards, the collection features eco conscious yoga tanks with a whooping recycled content of 94%! Whether enjoying the sweat wicking lightness during your favorite yoga flow or hanging with your friends in cool, casual comfort, Stelari speaks to your inner gypsy. Stelari‘s focus is on creating meaningful, wearable pieces of artwork. Each Tarot of the Bohemians Collection design is meant to symbolize your own truth. Wear it to strengthen your intention for yoga practice and for life. I was pleased to get a chance to interview the owner, Kim Roach on this new exciting brand. What made you decide to start Stelari? KR: There was never a decision to start Stelari because it always lived in my heart. I feel my most authentic and best self when I am active and creating, so it was only natural to marry the two. Did you have a background in fashion? KR: My undergraduate degrees are in Marketing and Finance. After graduating college I sought out to work in fashion but found it extremely difficult to break into the industry, especially in the city I was living in. I am an entrepreneur at heart and have been creating businesses since I was a child. I always knew I would create my own brand. When my kids were old enough to start pre-school I began my journey to Stelari. I basically started over – attending fashion design classes and gaining a deeper knowledge of the industry. Creating a line that embraced my love of fashion, yoga and fitness is the clearest extension of who I am at my core and the essence of my life. What does the word Stelari mean? KR: Stelari is an abstract word my mind kept saying whenever I would think about life and my connection with others. When we listen to our intuition and live

a conscious life that is authentic and meaningful to our unique selves, we are in the rhythm of life. This is how I strive to live my life and I want to inspire others to do the same. Stelari - find your rhythm.

By Tosha Cole Clemens

What is the inspiration behind this Tarot of the Bohemians collection? KR: This collection was inspired by the ancient wisdom and symbolism of the Tarot. I am constantly in awe and inspired at the way life and the Universe communicates with each of us, if we are conscious and quiet enough to listen. For me, the message of this collection, is the we are all our own fortune tellers and we create our destiny with every thought, word, action and non-action. Our lives on the outside are simply a reflection of our inside. What do you enjoy most about your job? KR: Being creative! The early mornings are my „me“ time. There is something very sacred about the creative energy of the morning- when my mind, body, and soul are refreshed and there is serenity around me. This is when I get most of my creative inspirations. It is truly one of the most fulfilling things to have a vision, to see it actualized, and to find that others connect with its meaning. How is your brand different? KR: Stelari is unique from other brands because the apparel we create is designed to be meaningful, functional, and fashionable. Our clothes are pieces of artwork - each design symbolizes our core values and the intention of the person wearing it. Who is the Stelari girl? KR: The Stelari woman believes in her own powerful being. She’s curious about life. She loves connecting with people just as much as she enjoys silent walks alone. She’s a hard worker and a fun seeker. She’s creating a purposeful life and believes all her dreams can come true. What has been your greatest accomplishment? KR: Striving to always follow my own truth, popular or not. What would you say the hardest part of growing a new business is? KR: Balance! I have a 5 and 7 year-old, and at times it can be difficult being a mom, an entrepreneur, a yogi and a wife. Striving to balance and fulfill all my roles is a challenge that I believe we all face at one time or another. The key, I found, is to stay focused on my purpose and my intention. What’s your philosophy of life? KR: I believe that our life‘s greatest purpose is to let our soul be seen. When we connect to the deeper

part of ourselves, the Universe, and each other, we can begin to shed the layers and let our most beautiful, fragile and vulnerable self be seen. What is your daily routine like? KR: I usually wake up around 5am to enjoy a couple hours devoted to creativity and spirituality. For me, these two things are deeply intertwined. If I have a busy day of meetings, I try to get in an early morning run. At 7am the kids wake. After getting them off to school, I drive to my favorite local yoga studio. A daily practice is sacred to me and I strive to preserve this time for myself. The rest of my day is spent working on my line, responding to emails and general business operations. In the afternoon, I pick up my kids from school and we begin our own routine. It’s busy, but it’s exactly the life I wanted and created, and I am so thankful for it. You can see Stelari’s new collection at: www.Stelari.com.

Dutch Traditions and Costumes utch Traditions

Today, as a visitor you can experience traditional Dutch customs all throughout the countryside of Holland. Traditional costumes Nowadays we only really see traditional costumes during folkloric events, but the tradition is very old. Originally, the objective of traditional costumes was to encourage solidarity and to distinguish between towns and regions. Children had their own costumes and (un)married people, widows and widowers could be distinguished by their clothing. Other than region, professions and religious backgrounds also determined elements of the costume. In Bunschoten-Spakenburg for instance, there were minor differences between the costumes of farmers and fishermen and in Scheveningen a girl could only become a fishing net

mender if she was wearing a traditional costume. In Zuid-Beveland, there are differences between the traditional costumes of the Protestants and the Catholics. In Gooi/Eemland, the square casque with corresponding costume was only worn by Catholics. Since the custom of wearing traditional costumes will eventually die out, some towns have specified events where these costumes are still worn. This happens on a large scale for instance, in Urk (on Whit Saturday), but also in Volendam, during the Volendammer weekend (late June), in Marken (Queens Day), and in Spakenburg (Fishing Day). In Volendam, tourists can have their picture taken in Dutch traditional costume. Holland is still known for its iconic windmills, even though the number of mills in Holland has strongly declined. The oldest type of mill is the watermill: it dates back to the eighth century. Holland still has approximately one hundred working watermills. The windmill is by far

the most famous type of mill. There are 46 working windmills left in Holland, namely in Gelderland, North Brabant and Limburg. The highest windmill in the world, a 45 metre high smock mill, is located in Schiedam (De Noord). Smock mills were often industrial mills that produced, for instance, flour, paint, spices, oils and malt. De Zaanstreek, where the historical heritage is being preserved hosts no less than 15 mills: from a mustard mill to an oil mill. And finally: the polder mill (wind/water mill). Boggy and watery Holland would not have looked the way it does without all the work done by the polder mills. Boggy soils were made suitable for cattle farming and agriculture and numerous lakes have been drained, such as De Schermer. The most famous group of polder mills is located near World Heritage listed Kinderdijk. Article retrieved from: http://www.holland.com. For more, please visit: http://www.holland.com. by Tosha Cole Clemens I’m sure everyone can agree on one thing, everyone wants to look and feel better! Most of us try diets only to end up frustrated because we can’t maintain the extreme limitations on our favorite foods. Others join a gym and try to get disciplined to a workout schedule and yet again we realize we have to also watch what we put into our bodies. When in reality, everything is about a balance. Exercise, diet, and maintenance are the keys to creating a healthy balanced life.

What do I mean by maintenance? Well, think about it this way, your car would not run unless you change the oil, add gas, replace the tires, etc. Our bodies are also a machine. So why do we think our bodies are different than a car? We have to invest in ourselves, be proactive to take care of the one body we have. The maintenance I am referring to is cleaning out our bodies or better known as detoxing. Detoxing is a way to rid yourself of harmful chemicals that you are exposed

to on a daily basis. If we don’t take the time to clean out our system, it becomes hard on our organs to handle this load. Think of it in terms of a clogged drain. A drain cannot function properly if it is clogged.

However, once a product is added to release the clogged drain, it is free to function normally. The same is true with our bodies. I am always on the lookout for natural products that aid in helping maintain a healthy lifestyle. Lyfe Tea offers a natural way to eliminate the toxins in our bodies. We develop toxins whether it is from the environment we are in or the food we eat. It is important for our well-being to cleanse ourselves from these harmful factors. Well, I’m sure you will be convinced once you see how thousands of people have transformed their bodies by using Lyfe Tea. Once I discovered Lyfe Tea’s website, I took a look at their instagram page and was blown away with all the celebrities that have used their products. Izabela Ioana Nicoara Tell us a little bit about yourself. My name is Izabela Ioana Nicoara. I am 18 years old and I study Chemistry and Biology at Dinicu Golescu High School in Campulung, Romania. My hobby is drawing. To tell you the truth, drawing is not just a hobby but also the way I choose to live, to breathe, and to express my thoughts and feelings. I can’t use words when I care about something, but using some pencils and my soul, I can say much more about the world I live in. Where do you get your inspiration from? My inspiration comes from the whole world around me, the entire Universe: people, places, things...and just looking at them. Everything around me comes to my mind as an inspiration. How long have you been a painter for? I`ve always painted and I will always do it. I was Trend Privé Magazine 126

born with this skill and I have never attended special courses. I don’t need artistic knowledge to tell that I am fascinated to express my feelings through drawing. A lot of people would say that I’m inaccurate, but I know you can’t be complete without the ability of drawing. What is the most challenging piece of work you have completed? Each painting is not just an empty piece of paper. It’s a way of living and a part of my life. Just looking at them carefully, you can understand me. Each piece of working is a challenge until the end, when it has the power to express a certain idea. Who is your favorite painter or artist in the world and why? My favorite painter is Salvador Dali. Who is your favorite painter or artist in the world and why? My favorite painter is Salvador Dali. He is the beautiful, crazy man whom expressed in his art the beauty and the ugliness of the world. His paintings are full of weird forms and colors that express some ordinary ideas in a different manner. Are there any rules behind painting or drawing a portrait? Maybe there are some rules but you have to be above them. There are no mistakes in art so it can’t be rules to obey. Passion, imagination and your pencils must be your only friends and enemies. If someone ordered me to draw, I`d have to admit that I`d block myself. I have to feel something peaceful in order to be able to draw. Drawing is not a sport or a formula. It implies lots of hours of hard working. It is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration, but perspiration means being there with heart and soul. Tell US about a painting project which you are very proud of. I have recently been awarded at the international contest ‘Winning through art’. I realized that my portrait was the best because I won the first prize. What are your goals and plans for the future? I would like to get appreciation for my work but, drawing will remain just a passion, because I decided to join the Police Academy in Bucharest. Any tips that you`d like to share with our readers? Never give up! Continue living and don’t forget that dreams can become reality, as long as you believe in them, because the entire Universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.

Deep Sense, an interview with PETA Foundation`s Director of Animal Law Jared S. Goodman The Ocean covers 71 percent of the Earth`s surface with billions of aquatic life unveiling new discoveries everyday across the world. No matter what background you come from, the fact is that in order for us to continue thriving as human beings amidst the factual science of preservation, we must be more conscious of our environment and its inhabitants. In a sense, we have the choice to heal or hurt, and in all reality a deep sense of intuition has often been a defining factor in turning a mess into a miracle. If you care about the impact that you’ll make in this world, you might pay attention into what drives you. Upon reading this, would you consider yourself full of optimism or rather a cynical person? According to an article at nationalgeographic.com, the Federal Government listed a captive orca at a Miami aquarium as an endangered species and this is but one example of the many cases where ocean life is diminishing. Statistically speaking there are countless mammals that are endangered since 2015. 10,000-25,000 blue whales remain in the environment surviving the harsh climactic conditions. “Like other large whales, blue whales are threatened by environmental change including habitat loss and toxics. Blue whales can also be harmed by ship strikes and by becoming entangled in fishing gear. Although commercial whaling no longer represents a threat, climate change and its impact on krill (shrimp-like crustaceans), blue whales’ major prey, makes this cetacean particularly vulnerable.” See wildlife.org For me, ultimately this question will always remain close to my heart. “What can I do to make a positive change?” As far as humanitarian work goes, many individuals approach causes with different forms of passion. For example, Leonardo DiCaprio, an American actor and film producer whose list of accolades seems endless, has made it obvious that he has chosen to be optimistic. In the past several years, making contributions to several organizations including recent donations of 2 million dollars to Oceans 5, the UN has designated him as a “UN Messenger of peace with a focus on Climate Change.” Over at kickstarter.com, Adrien Grenier and Josh Zeman have begun the “Lonely Whale Project” with world renowned scientists to find the elusive ‘52 Hertz’ whale and fight Ocean Noise Pollution. At the same time Habitat for Humanity has a vision starting campaigns to ensure everyone has a decent place to live and many feel that this very standard directly applies to the very creatures we so neglect going about our busy lives. Sea World has recently been a topic point

for many activists, organizations, as well as celebrities about the treatment of Orcas under captivity in their facility. Conan Obrien, American television host, cracked a hilarious joke hinting that the best place for captivity is the ocean alongside of this recent tweet, .@ConanOBrien: “Not sure about SeaWorld’s new ad campaign “You Either See Them Here or at Red Lobster, kind of makes you laugh doesn’t it? It does seem obvious that captivity is not the greatest choice and luckily for the helpless victims in this equation there are organizations making an impact on massive scales. Supported by a long list of celebrities like Ariana Grande, Olivia Wilde, Bill Maher, Trent Reznor, Pink, Justin Bieber and Kate Winslet, PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, have actively pursued Sea World in efforts to end what they know to be an active infringement on animal rights. PETA foundations Director of Animal Law Jared S. Goodman has intelligence and compassion for this situation like no other I have seen, and I personally believe he’s on the right track. Here is a look at my interview with Jared S. Goodman:

DEEP SENSE Jared S. Goodman by Joshua Seibert or a wild-caught orca imported into this country in decades. But captive-born orcas suffer from confinement at marine parks just the same. These animals have evolved over millions of years to swim up to 100 miles per day, dive to depths of up to 1,000 feet, and become the top predators in the ocean. When did you first take interest in Animal Cruelty at Sea World? For most of my life, I have firmly believed that, as PETA’s mission statement says, “animals are not ours to use for entertainment.” No animal should be confined, deprived of the opportunity to carry out natural behavior, and forced to perform inane tricks over and over again.

Have you seen the Blackfish Documentary? What did you think about it? I have seen Blackfish and thought it was a tremendous gift to captive orcas. The film clearly shows As PETA Foundation’s Director of Animal that everything about the lives of orcas at SeaWorLaw, what would you say your greatest ld is harmful and artificial—from being torn from goal is? their families to being forced to beg for food in the My greatest goal is to achieve enforceasmall tanks where they are confined for their entire ble, legal rights for animals. One example lives. The public is now more aware than ever of the of our work toward that end is PETA’s detrimental effects of captivity and is also making lawsuit on behalf of the five wild-caught the connection between orcas and other animals who orcas at SeaWorld against the company for suffer for our entertainment. enslaving them in violation of the ThirWhen did you start your career at PETA? I’ve been counsel to PETA since 2009.

teenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. As we continue our efforts to break down that species barrier in the legal system, we push to have existing animal-protection laws enforced and improved. What is your point of view on capturing Orcas from the wild? Would you explain the effects of captivity on these whales? It is unquestionably cruel to capture orcas from the wild and subject them to a life of deprivation in tiny, virtually barren tanks, where they often attack one another as a result of being grouped incompatibly, sustain broken teeth and suffer from chronic pain from biting on metal gates and concrete, are pumped full of drugs, and die prematurely from stress-related diseases. The intense public opposition to this abhorrent cruelty is why we have not seen an orca captured in U.S. waters

In 2014 California State legislature deferred the Blackfish bill -- a law that would ban SeaWorld from torturing orcas. Have you heard of the Blackfish Bill? What would you like to see done with the current legislation on this issue? The introduction of the California Orca Welfare and Safety Act is further proof that the tide has already turned on SeaWorld. Customers and investors have already spoken via their wallets. SeaWorld stock has plummeted, it lost a million visitors in 2014, it’s losing long-time corporate partners, and its CEO has stepped down. Whether SeaWorld’s confinement of intelligent and social animals is stopped through legislation or public sentiment, this is a failing business, and there is no future for marine parks in any state. SEAWORLD’S ACCREDITATION UNDER FIRE PETA Submits Official Comments Asking the Association of Zoos and Aquariums to Hold Cruel Animal Park Responsible for Violations Orlando, Fla. — This morning, PETA submitted official comments to the

Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) calling on the organization not to renew SeaWorld’s accreditation, to be decided this month at the AZA Accreditation Commission hearing. Would you elaborate on the current status of this issue for our readers? The AZA’s standards require that animals be well cared for and housed in appropriate settings and that facilities provide an educational experience and promote conservation while meeting the animals’ physical, psychological, and social needs. Because none of this is happening at SeaWorld, PETA submitted formal comments to the AZA calling for the organization not to renew SeaWorld’s accreditation, which is being considered at a hearing this week.

Ultimately what would PETA like to see accomplished by holding these organizations advocating inhumane orca confinement accountable? It is unfathomable that a company that provides false and misleading information to the public, exposes its workers to life-threatening dangers, and keeps animals in conditions that cause them mental and physical suffering and that even kill them can be accredited by any independent body with even the most minimal standards. We want to ensure that no unsuspecting member of the public relies on a seal of approval from an organization whose stated focus is animal care, conservation, and education in buying a ticket to SeaWorld.

Trend Prive Magazine supports your cause and aids in the fight against Animal Cruelty. Is there anything you would like to say in closing about how we can all make an impact? The easiest and most important thing that anyone can do is to refuse to buy a ticket to any facility that exploits and abuses animals for entertainment and tell family and friends why. I also encourage everyone to download PETA’s iPhone app to take action for animals at the touch of a finger and to visit PETA.org and sign up for PETA’s Action Team to learn more about what you can do to speak up for animals and events going on in your area. Nairobi National Park and Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya AUG 2012 Stevens International Photography by Christopher Dillard

Hundreds of wildebeest crossing a river in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya: Our guide brought us to this river crossing just in time to witness one of the most remarkable scenes from the annual migration of animals between Kenya and Tanzania. Hundreds of wildebeest trampled down a dusty hill towards a river crossing, creating a mysterious, murky cloud that created a unique setting for this photo. Initially, the dust confused some of the animals as they ran in circles, but they eventually and cautiously approached the river’s edge. Once they entered the water en masse, our guide pointed out a crescent-shaped gap in their formation. A crocodile lay still in the water near their entry point at the embankment, causing them to create an imaginary semi-circular barrier in the herd’s crossing. Not even the lurking threat from a dangerous predator would prevent them from pursuing their instinctive journey across this river to the plains beyond.

I had begun this safari at the Nairobi National Park, one of the few, if not only, safari parks just outside a major international city. Tonny, the Operations Manager from Nairobi for Sekenani Camp, had organized our safari and decided to come along on this trip, riding in my jeep. Our driver was a member of the Maasai Warrior tribe and was an expert in navigating the park’s trails, and the locations and instincts of the animals. Often times while driving around the park, I could see the backdrop of skyscrapers and smaller buildings as a group of giraffes or elephants passed between the safari jeep and the city. This contrast between the trappings of a sprawling metropolis and the liberation of nature thrilled me. I enjoyed witnessing these wild animals in their natural habitats i.e. their homes, while recognizing that at least some humans were peacefully co-habitating in nearby Nairobi. But, that impression only lasted for a brief time. On the next day, my safari trip extended into the Maasai Mara National Reserve and reminded me of a time when surviving day to day in a less civilized time, and co-habitating with nature were less distinct ventures.

Cheetahs walking across the Maasai Mara National Reserve:

These two Cheetahs walked steadily in tandem across the African plain, and were quite a long distance from our safari truck when our guide saw them. I gazed in amazement at their remarkable, steady gaits, and presence. They continued walking towards us and only changed their path when they realized they couldn’t walk directly through our vehicle. Barely side-stepping the front of the truck, they passed just in front of the front wheels. Even then, they never changed their pace or the distance between them. I imagined that they kept this formation as both a hunting tactic and as a natural protection from any lurking predators, few that they may be. In this photo, the Cheetah in the background is intentionally out of focus, a symbol of the devastating population decline of not only Cheetahs, but all big cats. It’s the result of their most dangerous predator - humans. Steven International Photography by Christopher Dillard

Trend Privé Magazine 138

At some time during our journey across the African plain, Tonny pointed to a distant green shrub. It looked less than a half mile away, but, because of the vastness of the lands, was probably closer to a mile. To make a point about the savagery of the Maasai Mara and nature, Tonny dared me to jump from the jeep, run to the shrub and come immediately back. Then he said, “we will see if you make it back alive.” His challenge and statement suddenly forced me to consider life outside the safe confines of a steel vehicle. I thought about trying to survive during that short run, and how ill-equipped I’d be defending myself with flimsy hands and legs. I thought about what it must have been like to live on this plain, not only to survive, but to thrive without a protective safari jeep and Maasai warrior guide. Later that afternoon, the driver stopped the jeep for our lunch break. Another American man and I both jumped out of the jeep, but the driver decided to move the jeep another 20 meters or so to find a better spot. Suddenly, as the jeep pulled away, we were both confronted with Tonny’s troubling challenge, feeling abandoned and without defenses. Almost instantly, I gained a new respect for wild animals’ abilities to survive, hunt and eat with only the tools on their bodies, and humans’ relative frailty when thrown into a similar situation.

White Rhinos relaxing - Nairobi National Park: I shot the photos of the cheetahs and the lion in this editorial with the same lens as I did these rhinos. But, the distance between our jeep and these rhinos is unmistakably greater - it was an intentional decision made by our guide, to keep everyone at a safe distance from powerful and unpredictable animals, potentially protecting their territory from invaders. Everyone knows that big cats are powerful predators and often territorial, but our guide was always comfortable with our proximity to them. Even while parked only a couple meters from lions or passing cheetahs, our guide was nonchalant, in direct opposition to his attitude about rhinos. Unlike a big cat, our guide informed us that a rhino might suddenly come thundering towards our jeep if it felt threatened in its home......and no one wanted to disrespect, or attempt a “tete a` tete” with, a disturbed 4,000 lb. animal. Baboon still life I love this magnificent gaze from a creature with such powerful eyes and physical strength. Though he sat motionless and poised for the photo, the intensity and energy in his facial expression created for me endless possibilities of what he might do next.

Baby elephant drinking from bottle (Nairobi National Park/Elephant Orphanage at The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust) : The orphanage tour began with a grand entrance by the caretakers, dressed in bright green lab coats and marching with purpose towards the expectant onlookers. The caretakers exuded pride, as the baby elephants trotted with excitement next to them, heading towards the rusty red mud pits, a natural playground for them. Without question, these impressive baby elephants were familiar with, and enjoyed, this play-time ritual. They not only joyously wallowed in the mud, but were pampered by the caretakers with a special, hand-fed formula. I wanted to capture this moment with a close-up photo of one of these magnificent creatures enjoying the benefits of an orphanage - living in its own environment with people aiding in its survival.

Lion walking (Maasai Mara Reserve): Not long before I took this photo, this same lion had left his shaded resting area to chase a lioness up to the crest of a hill. With the absence of any roars or growling, I had the impression that the male lion was simply searching for a mate. Unfortunately for the lion, the lioness was already far enough away to easily escape his advances. She continued to run a short distance, and then mostly disappeared behind a bush on the hill’s crest. So, the lion ended his pursuit, and momentarily stood still, rebuffed and rejected on the hill, wondering what to do. As this photo depicts, the poor lion’s situation only became worse with a safari truck full of humans pursuing him, instead of the young, presumably fertile lioness. Steven International Photography by Christopher Dillard

Trend Privé Magazine 143

I took this photo of the sunset and the safari truck with my Nikon 300 mm F/2.8, the same lens I used for many photos of the animals, but from much further away. At a distance of at least 1-2 miles, I could still see this dwarfed safari truck carving a path in the dirt away from the tree and on its way back to camp. As my jeep traveled on a similar path, and I took this photo, the powerful orange image of this Serengeti sun and sky took me back to an earlier time in the day. With the sun setting on these untamed lands, Tonny’s words came blazing back to me.........”try running to that bush and we’ll see if you make it back alive!” But, this was a reminder of nature’s power, and the respect we owe it, not of animals’ threat to us while we share this planet with them.
