The season is over for the 18 graduating seniors at the Pratt Institute. The students have studied for four years at the school’s design program all for the special evening of May 5th, 2016, a night for them to showcase the relationship between art and fashion.
It was fitting to have the student fashion show a few days after the coveted Met Gala, as the former curatorincharge at the Met’s Costume Institute, Harold Koda, was honored with the Pratt Institute’s Fashion Award for Lifetime Achievement. Koda is the man behind such legendary fashion exhibits at the Met as “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” and “China: Through the Looking Glass”.
The evening also included a $25,000 award from Liz Claiborne with which Jihyun Kim, the chosen graduate was honored. The guests in attendance included Pratt Institute Fashion Department Chairperson Jennifer Minniti, fashion designer Vivienne Tam, Vogue contributing editor Lynn Yaeger, Andrew Bolton, Fern Mallis and Barney’s Creative AmbassadoratLarge Simon Doonan.
