Origins
THE RENEGADE
What do you do with a deep-rooted desire for change...
When it seems like everyone else around you is committed to keeping things the same?
This was the question that faced Don Rees as a young carpenter. Conformity ruled the day. Every home build project he worked on was the same. But Don wanted to build differently. In fact, it felt like he could only build differently.
Don wanted to make homes for the unique people who lived in them—not to follow trends or conform. And this desire spurred him on to advance his craft—from carpenter to foreman to timber framing custom homes.
Along the way, Don tried things that others wouldn’t dare venture. Like learning to build custom doors to match the unique character of each property.
And using real wood, real stone, and real metal. If there’s one thing Don’s always hated, it’s phoniness.
Bucking the status quo wasn’t easy—it never is. But it was about to lead to a breakthrough.
THE DISCOVERY
Don had come to specialize in carriage doors for his custom homes. A roll-up garage door on a one-of-a-kind home? It just didn’t fit there. At least he thought so, and his clients agreed. He posted photos of his custom homes and carriage doors on his website. By the year 2000, Don was getting hundreds of emails asking for quotes about carriage doors. Don ignored them.
He didn’t want to build doors for people and ship them across the country. It was building the whole home that brought him the most fulfillment. Why would he give up that kind of creative control just to make a quick buck?
But the longer he ignored these requests, the more they multiplied. He got so many inquiries via email that it overwhelmed him.
Don eventually saw that people were searching for something only he could deliver.
Something different.
So he finally answered these emails, and started making doors in his garage for clients all over the country. For a while, Don did the carriage door business on nights and weekends around his timber framing work. After four years, he was ready to build carriage doors full time.
He called the new business Real Carriage Doors.
So many other “carriage doors” were roll up garage doors that only looked like carriage doors. They were phony. But Don was making the real thing—with real wood.
THE NEW PATH
After five years of building custom carriage doors, the business expanded to sliding barn doors. Don then encountered many problems with existing barn door hardware. It was clunky, industrial-looking, and loud. Don started designing his own hardware in 2008. His elegant, proportional hardware stood out in the crowd.
Today RealCraft builds handcrafted doors of all kinds, hardware, and home accents. What started as a one-man-show is now a growing community of craftspeople, artists, and renegades.
We know that the time has come for a revolt against mass production. That’s why we’re spearheading a return to craftsmanship.
Together, we can continue Don’s original vision of creating unique homes for unique people.

Our Reforestation Pledge
It’s no secret that building with real, solid wood is a key tenet of our business. We do this because we want to give you something that lasts. In a culture of mass production and disposability, our wood products are designed to be heirlooms you can count on for generations.
However, we know that trees are a precious resource, and we take the health of forests incredibly seriously. It wouldn’t feel right for us to use this resource without working to replenish and protect forests, too. That’s why we partner with the Eden Reforestation Project and Verdn to plant 25 new native trees for every door we sell—and 50 for each set of carriage doors.
The tree planting is facilitated and tracked by Verdn, and executed by Eden Reforestation Projects. You can track your own unique impact after your make your purchase. You’ll see your project from start to finish—where the trees are planted, when the replanting project starts, through to the final seedling.
Impacts

• Provides stable and dignified employment to local community members
• 20,395 trees planted so far
• Sequesters 245,938KG of CO2 annually

The Mira is a charming and traditional design. The bottom of the door features an inset tongue and groove panel with a notched mid-rail for a nod to the Craftsman look. Customize this round top door in twenty wood options and four glass styles.
UNITY OF OPPOSITES
The Chiron balances modern and traditional style. Four glass panels at the top of the door reference French glass doors, while the bottom is a solid wood vertical plank flush panel. Striking, simple, and versatile, the Chiron door looks good anywhere.

Sliding Door Hardware
Complete your sliding door with RealCraft’s sliding hardware collection. Whether your home is a modern haven or a rustic retreat, we’ve got the perfect sliding hardware for you. We go beyond elegant design and innovate for quieter, smoother operation. All our hardware kits are made here in the Puget Sound of Washington State. Elevate your sliding door system with hardware you can really count on.
Hardware Finishes
Our hardware is made with solid metals—either steel or brass. Our powder-coated finishes come in a range of colors, from neutrals to Crayola brights to subtly shimmering metallics. Galvanized and Stainless Steel variants offer enhanced durability, while Brass creates warm glamour.
Elegant, simple, and timeless: flat track is our most popular hardware thanks to its versatility.
Available with three hanger styles:
Classic
A proportional rectangular strap that fastens on the door face and wraps around the wheel.
Aero
A minimalist, top-mounted hanger that keeps all the attention on the door itself.
Prop
A rounded edge to this hanger evokes the propellers of an airplane.
Flat Track
Our flat track hardware comes in several specialty finishes and materials, making it suitable for any environment or configuration.

Flat Track | Specialty Finishes
Box Rail sliding door hardware is a system where the track is mounted over an opening. The hangers, or “trolleys”, ride in an enclosed box track. Both our trolleys and the track itself are specially engineered to make this system smooth-rolling, low-maintenance, and dependable for years to come. This hardware also boasts weight ratings of 400-600lb per pair of trolleys.
Box Rail
Our Box Rail comes in Stainless Steel and Galvanized Steel for enhanced durability. Galvanized Box Rail is ideal for exterior applications, while Stainless Steel resists corrosion in marine environments.
Box Rail | Specialty Finishes
Our Swiss Rod and Hexagon Bar hardware kits offer a distinctive and artful look, fashioned from only Solid Stainless Steel or Solid Brass. The rods themselves are solid rather than hollow, for greater longevity and quieter operation. Add a luxurious touch with Architectural hardware.
Architectural
Looking for hardware that’s eye-catching and unique? Our specialty line is just what you need. From bright colors to hangers shaped like horseshoes, we have hardware for even the most eclectic tastes.

FORGED BY THE REFINER’S FIRE
How often can you say that an object in your home is the culmination of forty years of craftsmanship? That’s the case for every product in our Hand-Forged Blacksmith Collection.
Our master blacksmith, Bill Apple, makes all of this hardware for us by hand. Aside from an antique hammering machine he salvaged and refurbished, he uses no machines, and nothing is automated. For hours he hammers, bends, and shapes the metal just as blacksmiths have done for centuries. This is as soulful and traditional as metalwork gets.
His hinges, handles, and latches are timeless works that lend fabled charm to your doors. Made from pure, solid steel, they’re pleasantly weighty and virtually indestructible.
