However SELREC exists for another reason, and it’s this: to offer a wide
palette of subject matter that caters to most, if not all, segments of the real estate industry. To provide a platform where people from all walks of the industry can gather, communicate, ask questions, and share ideas. The result is a more educated industry…and one set to prosper. As a group, we have to emerge stronger and wiser in this new economy. Information flow has never been more important nor has it ever been more accessible. It’s a nice problem to have. Let’s capitalize on it. Now going on our third year, this event was originally called the Asheville Land Development Conference, or ALDC. Professionals from all states surrounding North Carolina, and many beyond, have attended past ALDCs.
However, to ensure that everyone knew this conference was regional in nature and not specific to one city, we changed the name to the Southeast Land & Real Estate Conference. Of the 19 subjects planned for SELREC 2012, 14 are germane to the southeast and 10 could apply nationally. Afterall, southeast real estate is unique but we share many issues and challenges with a national audience. We all need the knowledge that drives understanding. This combination breeds success. SELREC is built on a chassis of four macro subjects broadly defined as Enhancing Real Estate Value, Reaching Buyers, Adjusting to the Market (Continued on page 34)
