SELREC links problems, solutions, education On February 24, the Southeast Land & Real Estate Conference(SELREC) will happen at the Biltmore DoubleTree Hotel in Asheville. A one-day event comprised of nineteen sessions and a trade show, the primary purpose of SELREC is education—a platform to share practical and useful information with fellow professionals. SELREC is also about making friends, forging business relationships, and meeting those who finance, design, develop, sell, buy, and dream about real estate. Our mission is to link problems with solutions, suggest possibilities where dead-ends exist, and provide meaningful direction. It’s for you. However SELREC exists for another reason, and it’s this: to offer a wide palette of subject matter that caters to most, if not all, segments of the real estate industry. To provide a platform where people from all walks of the industry can gather, communicate, ask questions, and share ideas. The result is a more educated industry…and one set to

prosper. As a group, we have to emerge stronger and wiser in this new economy. Information flow has never been more important nor has it ever been more accessible. It’s a nice problem to have. Let’s capitalize on it. Now going on our third year, this event was originally called the Asheville Land Development Conference, or ALDC. Professionals from all states surrounding North Carolina, and many beyond, have attended past ALDCs. However, to ensure that everyone knew this conference was regional in nature and not specific to one city, we changed the name to the Southeast Land & Real Estate Conference. Of the nineteen subjects planned for SELREC 2012, fourteen are germane to the southeast and ten could apply nationally. Afterall, southeast real estate is unique but we share many issues and challenges with a national audience. We all need the knowledge that drives understanding. This combination breeds success.

SELREC is built on a chassis of four macro subjects broadly defined as Enhancing Real Estate Value, Reaching Buyers, Adjusting to the Marketplace, and Performance. Under each heading, four sessions will be offered for a total of sixteen panel discussions. There will also be three conference-wide Keynote addresses. Two will be economic in nature and one will cover solar applications as they apply to large areas of real estate. Of special interest will be the trade show. At the time of this writing, it is too early to predict which companies will occupy all tables however; we expect a wide range of professional consultants, real estate companies, service providers, and product suppliers to be on hand. Those that register before February 1, 2012 can take advantage of our “Early-bird” special at $75.00. Throughout the day, four sessions will run concurrently and attendees are free to change rooms at any time. Consider registering multiple people in order to absorb it all. Though little can be done to alter market dynamics, we have the opportunity to track them, analyze them, and be wise in working smarter. The more we know about how to profitably finance and develop land, deliver marketable product, interact with customers, and communicate, the better prepared we will be to make clear, reasonable, and accurate business decisions.
