About Pronunciation Practice
Speech Recognition Technology
Pronunciation Practice offers an efficient way for students to improve their pronunciation skills. When used alongside either Practical English Starter (A1) or Practical English 7 (A2 – B2) it provides useful supplementary practice of the words and phrases students will encounter in each course.
Lessons in Pronunciation Practice are kept short, and are easy to use. They follow a basic ‘study and test’ structure which can be completed in approx. 5 minutes, and repeated as required.
Pronunciation Practice can be easily added to the Practical English portfolio. It is recommended that once a student has completed a lesson in either Practical English Starter or Practical English 7, they should do the correlating pronunciation practice lesson. This will use the key language and phrases that have already been practiced, and provide both consolidation and extended speaking practice.
At the start of each lesson students are presented with a set number of words and phrases, either in definition or illustrated format. They are able to listen to language in context, and hear the appropriate intonation and pronunciation. Students then move into the test phase where they can use the record and playback function to practice their own pronunciation. After each attempt, the speech recognition software will compare their recording with the models, and provide an overall score along with an indication of words that are problematic.
www.reallyenglish.com partners@reallyenglish.com
Pronunciation Practice features:
•
140 short pronunciation lessons from A1 – B2 covering a wide range of everyday topics.
•
A record and playback function for students to compare their pronunciation with language models.

•
Speech recognition technology that identifies problem areas, and allows students to check their accuracy.
•
Study sections that present everyday words and sentences for focused listening practice.
Lesson Flow Lessons follow a simple, yet systematic Study and Test cycle with a focus on specific words and phrases. Each lesson is kept short allowing students to complete the material at pace, and when they have time.
Words and phrases are presented in context - either through illustration or dictionary format.
Students are given the opportunity to practice the model multiple times through a record and playback function.
Speech recognition technology tracks their input, and helps them visualise intonation.
The scoring mechanism shows students how well they did overall, and their areas for improvement.

Practical Support
Kickoff for the TOEIC® L & R can be used flexibly as stand-alone preparation and practice for the TOEIC® exam, or as a homework supplement for face-to-face TOEIC® preparation courses. Students who are willing to study 1.5 – 3 hours each week can expect to increase their TOEIC® L & R scores by up to 100 points.
Kickoff for the TOEIC® L & R features 16 highly practical video lectures written by Mr. Hayakawa that outline the test format in full, and provide strategies and tips for each test section to build testtaking confidence. Each lecture lasts for approximately 2 minutes and provides a useful study tool and reference for students.
The course has been written and developed by Mr. Koji Hayakawa, a recognised expert in TOEIC® test measures, and is delivered in an easy-to-understand review and practice format for maximum score gain. The key sections of the TOEIC® L & R test are presented in an order that progresses from easy to more difficult to help students build their knowledge. Each lesson begins with a Test Skills Focus section to introduce the skill that will be practised. This is followed by a presentation and practice of the language needed, and further test practice exercises. The lesson concludes with a short test to assess the student’s understanding and progress.
Four simulation tests are also included. Each test is half the length of the official TOEIC® Listening and Reading test, but otherwise faithfully replicates its structure. The tests familiarize students with the testtaking experience. They can be used as a benchmark to identify weak areas early on, or for score comparison at the end of the course.
