The Shearwater is the most traveled bird in the world, similarly this home embodies aspects of luxury living gathered from a lifetime of architectural studies and travel abroad.
BUILDER: RYAN PERRONE, NAUTILUS HOMES ARCHITECT: CLIFF SCHOLZ, CMSA ARCHITECTURE
By Ed Bertha Welcome to the Shearwater, a luxurious private home embodying the grace and well-traveled nature of the Shearwater bird for which it is named. The Shearwater is a nearly 5,000-square foot, subtly luxurious home reminiscent of a grand estate residence, with light pastel colors enhancing the West Indies character, where every aspect of the home has a point and purpose. The Shearwater embodies exquisite beauty, form, and function of the Nautilus shell -- the symbol and logo of Nautilus Homes. “The shell,” says Nautilus Homes president, builder Ryan Perrone, “represents everything that can be accomplished in the building process: beautiful design, solid construction, and innovative use of space.”
One of the many things I most appreciated when reviewing Cliff Scholz’s architectural plans for the Shearwater was the quietness of the details, and how each detail worked methodically in the home’s composition. Interior and exterior spaces meld together and seamlessly extend one to the other. A design approach that was very intentionally and thoughtfully carried out throughout the home by Cliff and Ryan. Slated for construction in Siesta Key’s Spice Bay, the Shearwater will be one of the last homes to be built in this luxury gated community of just 14 home sites nestled along Sarasota Bay and the southern portion of Siesta Key. Sitting behind an impressive gated entrance of coral stone, this intercoastal enclave

offers a tropical setting with majestic live oaks, lush landscaping and mature palms, topped by warm tropical breezes. It is the perfect location to showcase one of the finest natural examples of life, the Nautilus shell, as represented in the flowing design of the Shearwater. The Shearwater design is a truly oneof-a-kind home. There’s still time to add your own personal preferences and stamp your family’s unique personality into the magnificent design and make the Shearwater your ideal home on Siesta Key in Sarasota. Why wait? Pre construction pricing at $3,095,000.

Post-Election Tax Planning Are we in store for monumental change to the tax code with the new administration?
together
L
ast month’s election of Donald Trump will have a significant impact on my clients – especially their tax planning. It appears very likely the federal gift and estate tax will be repealed. We may be seeing a capital gain tax at death like there is in Canada or no basis step up at death. Additionally, the IRS’ proposed regulations released in August that would eliminate discounts for lack of marketability and lack of control of closely held business interests are likely dead. Trump also proposes to reduce the top individual income tax bracket to 33% and a substantial reduction in the C corporation tax rate, possibly to in the 20% range. There is also a proposal to reduce the income tax rate on S corporation and other pass-through income to a 25% tax rate and have a 50% exclusion on capital gains, dividends and interest income. This would reduce the top capital gain and dividend tax to 16.5% from the current 20% top rate and reduce the tax rate on interest income from the current 39.6% rate to 16.5% rate. It appears income tax rates are likely to be going down after 2016. Therefore, it would make sense to accelerate deductions to 2016 and defer income to 2017. Trump also proposes to allow equipment and other capital improvements to be immediately deductible rather than be depreciated. If this is true, then deferring capital equipment purchases from 2016 to 2017 may make sense. Trump also intends to repeal Obamacare which could result in the repeal of the 3.8% Medicare tax on net investment income. The world has been turned upside down and so my thoughts are:
1. We need to keep close attention to developments in tax proposals and not move too quickly, but still be prepared to react to the possible changes in the tax law. 2. There are likely to be changes that could affect whether businesses should be operated as a pass-through (S corporation, partnerships, LLCs) or a C corporation. 3. Year-end planning for 2016 has become more involved and uncertain. 4. The gift, estate and generation skipping tax is likely to be repealed and so we need to consider whether certain planning we have in process should continue. There will be no absolutes, so what makes sense for some may not be for others. 5. The tax laws do not stay the same, so whatever may happen to the tax laws under Trump does not mean they will be sustained in the future. Therefore, flexibility in planning is always the desire.

Comedian Bobby Collins The Comic’s Comic
C
omedian Bobby Collins has an ability to truthfully translate the human condition. Audiences across the country relate to his comedic characterizations as he exposes the humor of day-to-day situations as well as serving up resplendent rants on world events. Through precise physical timing and impeccable audience insight, he has honed his talents while performing from hole in the wall clubs to sold out theaters. Bobby Collins’ rise to top headlining, comedic master was inevitable. His true dedication to his craft is what keeps his vibrant shows consistently sold out. A native New Yorker, Collins possesses a confidence and genuine everyman likeability that can only be earned. He knows what it’s like to work a day job, in order to pursue a dream. He’s flipped his share of burgers, as well as signing on as a substitute high school history teacher, to pay the bills - all the while performing in comedy clubs at night. After heeding a conversation with his father, with some trepidation, he ventured into sales. Settling into the high fashion industry. A detour that proved so successful, that in the 1980’s he had risen to Vice President at CALVIN KLEIN. It was there that he found himself faced with a life changing decision; remain here or chuck the security (and more than substantial steady income) for the uncertain challenge of heading out on
the road - to pursue his dream of becoming a professional, full time standup comedian.
It was a decision he’s never regretted. Realizing his dream has given Bobby the opportunity to tour with titans of entertainment like FRANK SINATRA, CHER, JULIO IGLESIAS and DOLLY PARTON. As a professional standup comedian, he’s worked alongside friends, CHRIS ROCK, RAY ROMANO and DREW CAREY, as well as many others. ROSIE O’DONNELL specifically requested that Bobby take over as host for STAND-UP SPOTLIGHT. Collins is widely regarded as a “comic’s comic.” Through his personal appearances at Comedy Clubs, Theaters, Corporate and Charity events, coupled with
innumerable television appearances on legendary shows like LETTERMAN, THE TONIGHT SHOW with both JIMMY FALLON and JAY LENO, Collins continues to add new fans of all ages to his loyal base of diehard followers. It is his relationship with his audiences that results in sold out shows everywhere he makes an appearance. What you see is what you get - Collins is the same man on and off the stage. Bobby Collins has a genuine love for what he does. With such skillful dissection of everyday life, he weaves his uproarious storytelling with effortless flair and charisma as he successfully dismantles any and all socioeconomic, race and age divides. As evidenced by his birthday performance for CHELSEA CLINTON at the WHITE HOUSE, to appearances in US EMBASSIES and USO SHOWS abroad. Night after night, Bobby Collins
masterfully reflects the hilarious truth we’re all in this together! With the critically acclaimed publication of his first book, “On The Inside – Witisms and Wisdomisms by Comedian Bobby Collins” we learn, through his personal and professional tragedies and triumphs, what has shaped his beliefs. With humorous recall, Bobby recounts his search for balance between career and family. Bobby currently has 5 CD’s and 3 DVD’s. You can check him out in person March 4, 2017 in Coral Springs, FL.

SPINAL ALIGNMENT Dr. Roger Sperry, Nobel Prize recipient for brain research, says “90% of the stimulation and nutrition to the brain is generated by the movement of the spine”. Only 10 percent has to do with thinking, metabolism, and healing. When your spine is out of alignment, your brain will take energy from your thinking, metabolism, and immune function to deal with abnormal gravity/posture relationships and processing. With regular exercise and knowledge of how the spine is supposed to be aligned, the body will have a better chance to work and function correctly. Exercise along with activity modification can help reduce improper alignment and nerve damage. Below are simple changes and exercises that will have lasting benefits for your posture and overall health. Kim’s Top Spinal Alignment Strategies 1. Modify your sleeping position: We spend one third of our lives sleeping. The best position to sleep is on our back. It is easier for our head, neck, and spine to align and keep it in a neutral position. Limit pillow use to just one. A cervical pillow is best and can be relatively inexpensive. This aides in maintaining correct cervical alignment. I also like to use a small towel roll under the low back for additional support. If you are a side sleeper, place pillows between your legs and arms to avoid excessive twisting. It is also recommended to place a small pillow under your waist to avoid unwanted curving. 2. Use good body mechanics during daily activities: Too easily we forget good mechanics with simple activities. We reach items from the ground without bending our knees, we lift items without having them directly in front of us and do not bring them close to the body, and many of us drive without utilizing the headrest. Practicing good body mechanics when we are cooking, cleaning, grooming at the sink and even crossing our legs at the ankles versus full leg crossing can make a huge difference in keeping the spine safe.
3. Maintain a good upright seated position keeping hips and knees at the same level. Sit up with your back straight, your shoulders back, chin tucked gently. All three normal back curves should be present while sitting. A small, rolled-up towel or a lumbar roll can be used to help you maintain the normal curves in your back. Distribute your body weight evenly on both hips. Keep your feet flat on the floor. Try to avoid sitting in the same position for more than 30 minutes. Adjust your chair height and work station so you can sit up close to your work with your monitor directly in front of you. For written tasks, using a slanted board will help with vision and good wrist positioning to reduce risk of carpal tunnel syndrome.
Kim’s Top Exercise for Spinal Alignment: Chin Tuck on the Wall This exercise assists in realigning the natural cervical curve in our spine. Forward head posture occurs when sitting at a desk, driving in a car and texting! The shoulders round forward, the head droops down and the back ends up curved, stretching out the small muscles of the back meant for spinal stability. Over time, this can bring the whole spine out of alignment. Chin retraction helps restore normal head position on top of the spine while expanding the chest and realigning the entire spine. Begin standing approximately a foot from the wall with the middle of your head on the wall, chin tucked/retracted and parallel to the floor. Press into the

wall gently so that only the top of the shoulder blades are touching the wall. Relax the arms and keep palms turned away from the wall. Gently brace the abdominals to keep the pelvic bone aligned and stable. Take a long breath in through the nose, expanding the low ribs and chest. Exhaling slowly through the mouth with a “haa” sound or Ujjayi breath through the nose, as you are doing this, press the back of the head and hairline into the wall about 30-50%, bringing the shoulder blades off the wall and inch or two. Continue to maintain this pose attending to good shoulder blade positioning back and down. Keep your abdominals and buttocks tightened gently, feet flat on the floor pressing base of the feet and heels into the ground, and maintain a slight bend in the knees to avoid pressing back to far. Continue breaths for 30-60 seconds. Alternately, you can return to starting position at the end of the exhale and repeat for a set of 10-15 reps. After performing with neck in neutral, turn your head to the right to perform exercise then switch to the left pressing ear and jawline towards the wall. Advanced: Add an alternate leg lift maintaining pelvic stability. This article is for informational purposes only. Consult a physician before performing this or any exercise program.

Our office downtown was always nice, but we really knocked it out of the park with this office. We have a spacious and well-appointed conference room, great kitchenette, walnut trim and Turkish shell stone floors throughout, and even a small park to enjoy outside meetings or to walk the dog. This is for our employees as well. We have great

Captain Jerry Chitwood
Voyage of the Eskimo III
By Ed Bertha Photography by James Corwin Johnson Layout by Mia McKeehan
O
ne could talk for hours about Captain Jerry Chitwood. Known locally for Chitwood Charters, most in Sarasota don’t know what this unpretentious individual has accomplished, and who he knows. Be it the huge picture that still hangs in Indiana’s Ben Davis High School commemorating his wrestling feats. Or, the tough middle linebacker at Indiana State University, who also was
the team’s captain. Maybe it’s becoming a pilot at age 21 and being featured in Neiman Marcus’ 1971 “His/Her Gift of the Year” Christmas catalog piloting an Eglan Hovercraft. Perhaps it’s being told by Sarasota bankers and yacht brokers that his business plan for a yacht charter company wouldn’t fly when he relocated to Sarasota many years ago to escape the harsh winters in Indiana.
Ah, next it’s his little black book whose page’s overflow with the likes of Howard Koch, Jr. (former President of the Academy Awards), Nick McClean (Cinemaphotographer; Friends, The Right Stuff, Chuck Yeager, Deer Hunter), Bob Netolicky (Top 30 player in the history of the ABA), David Kingman (King Kong Kingman; 442 home runs), Heraldo Rivera, Jimmy Buffett, Burt Reynolds and more. Other pages contain politicos; The Shrivers, Kennedys and then some. Locally it contains Sarasota game changers like Kevin Daves (Ritz Carlton, The Concession) and Tom Mannausa (Original partner with Pat Neal and developer of The Jewel). At any moment the Captain can pick up the phone, reach out and engage these individuals, some of whom called him during our time together. These aren’t casual relationships, they are true long lasting friendships.
That’s not the story here. This story is about passion, a love for the water and saving a piece of timeless nautical history, the Eskimo III, a sister ship to the Presidential yacht, the Sequoia. Originally the third Trumpy/Eskimo commissioned by paper magnate, John Kimberly, the Bill Gates of his time, it was docked here locally in major disrepair. Nothing was invested in her upkeep for 20-25 years and she was rough. There were two options, scrap the vessel or spend untold hours and money to bring it back to its original splendor. Knowing her history Captain Chitwood opted for the latter, purchased the yacht, spent over two years and close to $700,000 completely bringing the Eskimo III back to its original splendor. As the Captain shares, “It’s a treasure that became a love affair.”
“It’s a treasure that became a love affair.”
Stepping aboard the Eskimo III one feels the history; the prince and princesses, the socialites, the politicians, the who’s who of society, the movers and shakers, all of whom enjoyed the Eskimo III’s grandness, the grandness only found in a Trumpy.
satisfy two tough critics: that craftsman and John Trumpy, Sr. Only then was it good enough for the client. The same is the case here with Captain Chitwood’s restoration, only the top craftsmen were permitted to work on “his” restoration project.
In every field there are names that become benchmarks against others are judged. Take Rolls Royce for example. That is exactly the case with the name Trumpy, which graced motor yachts from the late ‘30s through the early ‘70s and which still remains a yardstick by which luxury yachts are measured. Over this span of time Trumpy & Sons built more than 400 wooden yachts for celebrities, dignitaries, and discerning yachtsmen. The Eskimo III is a privilege to be on and a step back in time.
The Eskimo III was delivered to Kimberly in 1958. A 68 model (64’ in length) she contained many innovative features not seen in Trumpys until a decade later. She’ll effortlessly cruise economically at 12-14 knots without a hint of shudder due to the power of her twin 871 Detroit Diesels. She’ll comfortably sleep 7 guests and 3 crew members, with all modern amenities. A 22.5 KW generator supplies the power, 4 A/C systems, including one for the fantail, provide the creature comforts.
Each Trumpy wears an ornate and filigreed scrollwork “T” flowing from the bow that was a stamp not just of authenticity but also of quality. True to this day the approach of a yacht with that scroll stops activity on most waterfronts as the classic lines are admired by “those in the know”.
Her structure consists double planked Mahogany (Outside hull) and double planked White Oak (Inside hull). The hull was completely rebuilt/replaced and now contains 4 coats of bottom paint. Her bilges were scraped and cleaned, then the interior wood of the bilges finished off with Thompson’s Water Seal. 14 new brass “Thru Hulls” were installed and the transom rebuilt. This took over 10 months at the renown Rybovich Shipyard in West Palm Beach, FL.
Trumpys were hand-made of double planked wood with no worry about weight. A displacement boat designed to travel in the water, rather than plane atop it, her hull was designed to glide through the water with minimum fuss. Each Trumpy was assembled by a team of master craftsmen, who took an immense pride in their dexterity with a piece of wood. Each seam, each joint, each finely finished detail, was done by a single man who ran his rough but sensitive hands over it until it was good enough to
30 | REAL EXCLUSIVE | GetRealExclusive.com
Rybovich then rebuilt the diesel engines and prepared all of the vessel’s props, shafts, rudders, bearings, cutlass and pillar blocks to specifications, as they are accustomed to refurbishing old yacht systems. After a couple months Cortez Shipwrights finished off the rudder supports, transom and redid the entire keel. The boat’s integrity is there. This beauty has dry bilges from stem to stern, and she’s almost 60 years old. Inside all of the Teak and Holly woodwork, found from stem to stern, above and below decks, was completely stripped and refinished by nautical restoration craftsmen. Each piece of wood was either varnished, repainted or oiled, quite some task for this complex wooden vessel. All headliners and trim were redone by local craftsman at Surfside Marine who also did the exterior paint job that turned our marvelous. The curtains, the windows, nothing was overlooked. This was a rotisserie restoration done to the finest specifications. Captain Chitwood is holding this grand beauty for special trips along our gulf coast waters. “I’m saving her for the prospective new owner, it will be their trophy. She’s in Bristol condition and will be delivered that way,” he shares. The Eskimo III can dock at your slip for $750,000. She may be visited by appointment only. To schedule your acquaintance with this magnificent lady call Captain Chitwood at (941) 3835232. A piece of timeless beauty and history can be yours.

Razzle-Dazzle Style Tis the Season to be Glamorous!
D
eck the Halls with party dresses and shoes Fa La La La La … La La La La! Are you ready REAL Style readers for continuing the festive Party Season? Holiday trends were glamourous this season and you can continue to shine bright like a Christmas Ornament. Sure, a Little Black Dress or Le Smoking Suit is always on par for the party scene, but who says dressing has to be so cut and dry. I’ve got just the look for switching it up this season — getting glammed-up just got a whole lot more fun and festive.
Finally, the Most Figure-Flattering Party Dresses for every shape this season. There’s a chic cocktail look for every shape. Take a cue from the red-carpet style stars of 2015: from Sienna Miller, who never lets a pretty dress overwhelm her petite frame, to Serena Williams, whose toned form requires no extra frippery. Hourglass shapes who hold Beyoncé as their guiding light should follow suit with dresses that are body-con and figure-skimming, while those long-and-lean Taylor Swift types can rely on a column to highlight their height. Curves can be made dangerous or black-tie-dinner-ready if you follow Adele’s lead. Above, my favorite party dress.
shoes are about sophistication, not snobbiness, and the most refreshing options for this season play with color, embellishment, and texture, injecting new life into the most tried-and-true party frock. Better still, you’ll be wearing the more versatile among these well after your first event.
I’m so excited about Party-Ready Shoes that Kick-Start our wardrobe. When it comes to your party–circuit wardrobe, building your look from the ground up has surprising sartorial benefits—not to mention the leg-lengthening advantages of certain vertiginous stilettos. Festive
Want to take your go-to party dress to the next level (I’m talking jaws on the floor)? Of course, you do. So, go ahead and add some Razzle – Dazzle pieces of jewelry, shoes, and bags. Before heading off to your party, add that festive sparkle and shine to your look.
What do you say we ditch the clutch this season! I have opted for an evening bag with a strap instead. The long chain is essential when you want to go handsfree. Simply sling it over your shoulder or carry it cross-body style. Best of all, they go with everything from a velvet tuxedo to an evening gown.

Trends to Watch for in 2017 As I write this, the end of 2016 is fast approaching, and it is about time to get out our crystal ball and see what the New Year will hold. My business partner, Carla Rayman, and I had a head start on this. We were invited to present at the National Association of REALTORS annual convention in November and talk about the shifts we may see in global real estate in 2017. We started our research in October and are happy to share some of that with you here.
Y
ounger Decision Makers We will see younger decision makers in our real estate transactions. For the first time in decades we are seeing more first time home buyers in our local and national markets, and younger retirees buying second homes here. We are also going to see continued wealth transfer to younger generations. It’s estimated that $3.9 Trillion will pass to the next generation by 2026, and a portion of this will be used to purchase resort real estate both at home and abroad. Women in Power We just have to look around the world and see how things have changed. We now have many women leading their countries. As wealth is passed from one generation to the next, or children become involved in the parents’ business and finances, parents are not discriminating between sons and their well educated daughters. Even in some traditionally male dominated cultures, we are seeing women become key decision makers. Buyers for Luxury Homes The Wealth Report, published annually by Knight Frank, tells us that a big proportion of High Net Worth Individuals plan to buy homes in the next 2 years, and there will certainly be more buyers than sellers as these wealthy individuals purchase multiple homes around the world. Currency Opportunities Opportunity-driven investment will certainly follow movements in the currency market. A few years ago when the Canadian Dollar was at parity with the U.S. Dollar we saw a huge influx of Canadian investment here and around the world – that has certainly slowed in recent years as things have changed in
relation to the strength of the Canadian Dollar. BREXIT’s impact on the strength of Sterling and the Euro will slow down outgoing investments from Europe, but will encourage many Europeans to cash-in their overseas investments and repatriate funds to their home countries. Evolving Tourism There is certainly a link between tourists visiting an area or country, and then becoming investors or home owners there. A couple years ago, eco-tourism was driving Americans to discover Costa Rica for instance, and then the tourists started to buy homes there. We may see tourist activity based around Marijuana this year. Uruguay was the first country to legalize marijuana in 2013, Canada is looking to legalize in 2017. Jamaica, with its Bob Marley culture has started to discuss turning their long history of Rasta culture into a positive thing, through legalization of marijuana to encourage tourism and economic development. Shifting Immigration Patterns With no end in sight to the global immigration crisis, and a newly elected government here at home, changes in
immigration patterns are inevitable. High unemployment in Southern Europe will continue to drive young educated people to move for better lives elsewhere. Affluent Chinese citizens will continue to use “investment visas” offered by many countries around the world, to provide a safe, overseas home and place for further education for their families. Australia has been a key target for the Chinese, but the higher price of entry there, means fewer can achieve Australian residency. This may drive investors to look at other destinations more seriously. Portugal’s Golden Resident program which has a relatively low entry level ($500,000) will continue to be popular with the Chinese as long as the EU and the Schengen Agreement’s freedom of movement survives. So once again we are in a changing landscape for our local, national and international real estate market drivers. Only time will tell. Bride Hair TRIAL
O
n your wedding day, it is your day to shine and you want to look and feel more beautiful than you ever have in your life. Here are a few pointers to make sure you have a successful hair trial and that you walk away from your trial appointment with the confidence that your wedding day will run smoothly and that you will be the beautiful bride you have always dreamed. When you’re meeting with your wedding hair stylist for the first time, keep in mind that since he or she doesn’t know your personal tastes, you’ll need to show as well as tell. The best way is to gather photos from magazines that feature hairstyles you like and search wedding hairstyles online. Maybe you absolutely have to have fullness to your hair or maybe you know that no matter what, you don’t want to wear your hair in a bun. Whatever it is, have those absolutes ready for your stylist. Photos are a great way to illustrate your personal style and your likes and dislikes. But, I like to tell brides that you should think of photos as inspiration, not instruction. Everyone’s hair is different and every style is going to be different on everyone. So, if you do bring photos, it is best to use them to show your stylist different features of particular hairstyles that you like, not necessarily as an exact blueprint for what you want, that may not be realistic. While bringing pictures is a given, do not feel as though you need to narrow it down to just one or two options. A lot of the pictures you’ll find will only show the hair from one angle. If you love the front of one look but the back of another, your stylist can work to incorporate elements of your favorite ideas.
Be open to changing your hair. If you’re in love with a particular style, ask your stylist if she’d recommend changing anything about your current cut and color to make it look its best. You may find that your style would look better with side-swept bangs or that you should cut layers into your long locks to add dimension. Or, she may suggest something subtle, like parting your hair on the opposite side or overextending the part. Also, you should consider bringing any hairpieces or accessories you think you may like as part of your bridal look. If possible, you might also consider bringing your veil. Bring it all......it is play time….have fun with your hair stylist. Speaking of photos, you should also be sure to bring a camera or cell phone. Ask your stylist to photograph each finished look from four different angles, front, back, and both sides. That way, you’ll be able to see how you look from all views, and you’ll get an idea of how the style translates to photographs.
Since a wedding consultation can take place months before your actual event, take pictures so you can remember what style works best for you. ABSOLUTELY....do not hold back your concerns because you are afraid of hurting your stylist’s feelings! This is your wedding day and your happiness is just too important. They know that if you want something changed it doesn’t mean that it wasn’t “good” it just means that it wasn’t “good for you”; it just wasn’t your style. So speak up!!!! In summary, the most important thing for a bride to do for a successful hair trial is........communicate, communicate, and communicate.
