Team Fontanetta Timing Is Everything

T

iming — It is often said — can make a world of difference when introducing a new business or venture. That’s why Ann and Frank Fontanetta waited until just the right moment to team-up with Fairway Independent Mortgage. Frank was at the peak of a career that spanned over 25 years in the lending industry, having risen through the ranks from mortgage originator to company owner. Similarly, Ann was at the apex of a 20-year career, with

the office, Frank and Ann continuedon as team outside the office when they wed in 2013. Meanwhile, Fairway Independent Mortgage had also been on a successful long-term business trajectory. Now ranked as one of the top 10 mortgage companies in America by Mortgage Executive Magazine, the company has funded more than $50 billion in loans since it started more than 20 years ago; and over $21 billion in 2017 alone.

”It’s not about the loans we do; it is about the hearts we change and the people we help.” Steve Jacobson, Founder and CEO the last 11 spent as Director of MSC Mortgage, the in-house lending arm of Michael Saunders & Company—the leading independent real estate firm on Florida’s Gulf Coast; and 53rd largest by volume in the United States. As luck would have it, much of Frank and Ann’s experience had come from working in tandem with one another at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, where Frank had been instrumental in forming the company’s highly successful joint venture with Michael Saunders & Company. Afterwards, Ms. Saunders—who is famous for choosing top-flight managers to help guide her high-performance luxury real estate company—persuaded Ann to lead the new mortgage division that arose from the venture. No longer a team inside

With their depth of experience in Florida real estate and mortgage markets, it was almost inevitable that Frank and Ann would eventually cross paths with Fairway Independent Mortgage. When they finally did, Florida’s economy was booming again after the Great Recession and its real estate markets were setting new records for solid and sustainable growth. Fairway Independent Mortgage was fresh off one of its most productive years ever and Team Fontanetta— as seasoned in Florida real estate as any pair of experienced lending professionals could be—was ready to join forces with the company to begin serving the mortgage needs of home buyers throughout Southwest Florida. Let them help you.

Ann & Frank Fontanetta Financing a home is one of the biggest commitments you will ever make. Let us help guide you throughout the entire loan process from application to closing and beyond. We look forward to putting our mortgage service to work for you!

Last issue we featured the MUCH Foundation and Blake was our opening photo, mesmerized by a butterfly. This past month Blake received something even better.

It was a great day. A day everyone was looking forward to. The MUCH Foundation gave a WCMX Wheelchair made by Box Wheelchairs to their favorite little Batman, Blake,

once it was custom painted and lit up with an array of super bright LED lights of course. This wheelchair is a one of a kind, just like you Blake! We love you buddy and can’t wait to see what you will do next. 9 | REAL EXCLUSIVE | GetRealExclusive.com

THUNDER BY THE BAY - Rev It Up! “You do not need a therapist if you own a motorcycle, any kind of motorcycle!” Dan Aykroyd

Once again Thunder by the Bay ROARED into Sarasota raising over $136,000 for Suncoast Charities for Children. This year’s event enables Suncoast Charities for Children to continue providing support to Suncoast Foundation for Handicapped Children, which over the years has constructed area facilities valued at over $20 million dollars. This past year approximately 8,000 special needs children, teens, adults and their families benefited from Suncoast Charities for Children funding. Research Data Services calculated that the direct and indirect overall economic impact of the 2018 Thunder by the Bay Motorcycle Festival was $7.8 million and generated 6,800 room nights in area lodgings. Not too bad for a bunch of bikers. I can’t wait until next year to Rev It Up For Charity! Thank you Lucy Nicandri and all the volunteers that make Thunder by the Bay happen! POSITION YOURSELF WITH POSITIVITY

R

ealtors, are you feeling tired and stressed out? It may be that you could use a boost of positivity to get you back on the right track. Although harder than it may sound, incorporating positivity into your life should be part of your daily routine. With busy work schedules, family lives, and social activities, it may be easy to lose sight of attending every day to a positive mind-frame. It is our belief that when you attend to the body’s position of the spine and joints, you will allow for the best circulation of the body’s fluids and organs ultimately aiding in having a better outlook on life. Always immersing yourself in the positive aspect of experiences and forming healthy habits through daily attention to your own self care is the key to implementing positivity.

Incorporate small techniques to the normal day-to-day tasks that are already taking place to maximize your time and energy. You will begin have better health on a regular basis leading to a healthy and successful lifestyle. These habits will include a combination of practices from proper alignment of the spine and joints to the words you use to talk yourself into the person you want to be. This summer to focus further on the connection between positivity and a healthy lifestyle, we have outlined a series of wellness activities, designed specifically for Realtors, that will effectively enhance your way of life and make marketing fun! Over the next few months, we will strive to promote positivity within the

14 | REAL EXCLUSIVE | GetRealExclusive.com

Realtor community of both Sarasota and Manatee counties. Realtors will be able to gain information regarding how to make choices that will impact their lifestyle for health and success. By incorporating the techniques into their daily lives, Realtors will be able to boost their health while at work. This will serve as an important element of the project, “Position Yourself with Positivity.” As a senior at Rollins College studying Health Communications, as well as Global Health, I am extremely excited to launch this project, and hope you can help me make it a successful learning experience for everyone. The project, “Position Yourself with Positivity,” has the ability to have a strong impact on the local

Realtor community by creating a complete atmosphere of wellness and mindfulness by utilizing the natural resources of the area that we live in. The overall goal of the campaign is to successfully engage with the Realtor community by having 1,000 Realtors indicate making a positive change to their lifestyle, no matter how small, due this program. If we can teach Realtors how to use their environment for their health as well as provide a talking point for their clients and business partners, we can reach a much larger community of people providing them invaluable self-care techniques for a healthy lifestyle.

activities will take place on a weekly basis, that all aim to have a helpful impact on the local Realtor community. Week one’s activity uses the natural outdoors with a walk over the John Ringling Bridge. This activity will be a talk-and-walk. Here, Realtors will learn about the various real estate areas surrounding the bridge, and how to use proper body alignment while walking, which can then be applied to real estate tours or showing potential buyers their dream house.

Self-care is an extremely important element of living well, but is generally overlooked as people allow their bodies to take powerful blows from regular stressors, leaving them defenseless. Being aware of the harmful impacts associated with stress, especially occupational stress, is the first step to take in maximizing levels of personal positivity. As a good amount of our time is spent onthe-job, integrating healthy practices and habits into the job world is a sure way to strengthen our self-care. With a lot of time spent sitting, whether it’s at a desk, a table, or driving, adverse health effects are upon them at all times if there is lack of attention to their posture. Keeping the spine properly aligned throughout the day is imperative for people to remember and to make a habit. What healthy habit can you incorporate into your job to maximize your own personal health? If you are interested in learning specific techniques to ultimately achieve a position of positivity, you have come to the right place. Throughout the summer, various

strategies to engage their clients and keep them coming back. Week four will help build personal positivity through helping others and giving back. It will focus on building awareness for local opportunities to get involved and meet new people, while also producing a positive influence for oneself. Week five helps Realtors learn how to support their environment and themselves through reducing waste and detoxing. Cleansing the body of impurities, and attending to environmental waste reduction, will work to keep you motivated and energized for your busy work schedules. As you can see, all five events have been tailored to utilizing your position in life and career to promote positioning your body for good health and positivity. The project comes to a close on August 8th, with the main event. This is where we encourage all individuals who were touched by this program to come together showing their support for wellness. This “Business Builder” event is for all those who have made a positive change with us and those who want to make a change.

Week two takes advantage of perhaps Florida’s proudest feature: the beach. Invited Realtors will attend an open house on the beach learning how to utilize this natural resource. As a Realtor, you have access to the most serene settings to promote relaxation and wellness. Come join us to wash away your impurities. During week three, another open house activity teaches techniques of Feng Shui and how to carry over

Help us reach our goal and learn how to instill healthy choices into your life! Reach out today if you want to participate or sponsor an activity. The Legendary Crosley Estate: An Upside To A Real Estate Bust Few properties were as affected by the dramatic swings in Florida’s volatile realestate market as the historic Crosley estate on Sarasota Bay. But as evidence that there is often an upside within a market bust, it was during some of Florida’s biggest real estate slumps that the Crosley mansion was built, later saved, and finally restored to create one the premiere cultural facilities on Florida’s west coast.

T

he first attempt to develop the property occurred during the famous land boom of the 1920s. In 1925 – more than 3 years prior to Crosley’s association with the site -- a business consortium purchased the 63-acre parcel for $365,000 with the vision to create an exclusive bay front subdivision named Seagate. At $5,800 per acre, it was the highest price ever paid for acreage in the Sarasota Bay area. The potential developers named their venture “Seagate” and promoted it as “Sarasota’s most aristocratic suburb.” A large sign was erected along the Tamiami Trail, but before any roads or homes were constructed, the sudden collapse of the land boom

dissolved their grand plans. The property was foreclosed upon and sold at auction on the Manatee County court house steps for a mere $12,000. In the spring of 1929, Cincinnati millionaire Powel Crosley Jr. took advantage of the market downturn and purchased the property for $35,000 - less than 1/10th the price it sold for in 1925. One of the greatest entrepreneurs of the first half of the 20th century, Crosley owned the Cincinnati Reds baseball team and was a pioneer in the manufacturing of radios, compact cars, and the Shelvador refrigerators (the first refrigerator with shelves in the doors). Although Florida was experiencing

22 | REAL EXCLUSIVE | GetRealExclusive.com

a severe economic depression, Crosley proceeded to invest $350,000 to create one of the finest showplaces in the region. The estate included a 21-room mansion, exquisitely rendered in the classic Mediterranean style, and a 200-foot yacht basin. The Crosleys occupied their palatial residence for ten winters and often entertained nationally prominent guests. However, after Mrs. Crosley died at the home in 1939, Powel seldom returned to the property. After World War II the Florida economy rebounded, but Mr. Crosley soon discovered that the home’s grand scale and ornate style had become obsolete in the post-war real estate market, which now emphasized smaller and sleeker homes. Eager to unload his “white elephant,” Crosley offered to exchange it for a Texas cow ranch and even considered donating it to a Cincinnati-based medical research institute. Eventually he sold the furnished estate in 1947 for $100,000 - less than one third its original cost - to

“stars from Broadway and Hollywood.” That venture quickly fizzled and the following year the company resold the property to the Horton family, who retained ownership for the next three decades. Although the mansion suffered from deferred maintenance, the Horton family is credited with keeping the estate intact during a period when many similar landmarks were demolished. In 1982, they sold the mansion and 45 acres for $5.5 million to the Campeau Corporation, which planned to build a luxury mid-rise condominium complex and utilize the mansion as a clubhouse. But, like the fate of prior propositions, this venture went bust when the condo market collapsed in the mid-1980s. After sitting abandoned, amidst extensive overgrowth for more than a decade, Manatee County seized the opportunity to purchase the mansion and 16.5 bay front acres for the bargain price of just a New York investment company that under $1.6 million. By then, the planned to subdivide the property barrel tile roof was gone, water into modest home sites and convert leaks in the roof and windows had the mansion into a clubhouse. When resulted in severe damage to the that plan failed to materialize, the interior, and the exterior was black company attempted to transform from mildew. The county, however, the mansion into “a distinctive recognized this diamond in the hotel for discriminating clientele.” rough and has worked feverishly They renamed it “Versailles” and to successfully transform the advertisements touted nightly relic into one of this area’s most dancing and entertainment featuring cherished jewels.

The ingredients in the Green Bloody Mary read like a who’s who of power antioxidants--raw juices of freshly squeezed tomatillo, celery, and cucumber; garnished with a delectable selection of charcuterie, cheese, and crudité all beautifully displayed on a blue glass tray. Our Mimosa had champagne dancing flirtatiously with freshly squeezed orange, mango, pear, and guava juice. The flavors of our special Mimosa were further enhanced with berries and a baby sorbet cone. Our free spirits were finally unleashed after one sip of Corpse Reviver #2. Poured straight out from an apothecary bottle, its formula contains botanical elixirs powerful enough to bring the dead back to life. No incantation needed here. No decent brunch would be complete without a good brew of Java. Coffee à la Mélange came in the form of an Irish Cold Brew made with an energizing shot of Irish whiskey and available in hazelnut or vanilla flavors. Justly revived and awakened, we proceeded to our brunch course. First on the list of Chef Lan’s Fancy Fixins was her 24 | REAL EXCLUSIVE | GetRealExclusive.com

Exploration of Food, Art & Drink A Brunch Experience French Toast: This, however, was no ordinary breakfast that you might remember from your childhood. Think multigrain bread, cinnamon pears, fresh raspberries, blackberries, starfruit, smoky butter, and salted PX syrup. PX, or Pedro Ximénez, is a dark, sweet sherry with flavors of molasses and raisins. This unique syrup is made by concentrating the juice of Pedro Ximenez sherry until it becomes a dark rich reduction. Its fresh-off-thesmoker flavor blended sinfully well with the smoky butter, which was smoked in house. We felt all grown up now. With our senses barely recovering from the feeling of ecstasy after relishing the smoky butter and PX syrup on toast, Fried Chicken and Waffle was laid out to tempt us. There aren’t too many foodies who do not like a good fried chicken. Chef Lan’s boneless chicken breast is rubbed in seasoned flour using black and white pepper. While the herbs and spices used in her seasoning remains a secret, white pepper, which is widely employed in Asian recipes, flavored the protein with a seductive, spicy earthiness. Smoky butter and three house jams--salted PX maple syrup, rhubarb cranberry jam, smoked blackberry jam, and guajillo berry jam-accompanied the waffle. The Eggs Benedict brought us back to an era where traditional British teatime was observed with religious fervor. Two poached eggs oozed their golden goodness over sundried-tomato crumpets and housecured bacon. A bergamot-tea-and-

Eastern philosophy dictates that when the body is in harmony with its mind and soul, and all three are travelling on the same journey as one unified being, life becomes a state of bliss. Through the intoxicating aromas, flavors, and textures of Chef Lan’s culinary offerings, and the bewitching concoction of tinctures and herbs used in her spirited cocktails, our senses were lifted to a higher state of consciousness. We returned to our daily lives, and to reality, having attained nirvana at Sunday brunch.

chive Hollandaise sauce masterfully brought together all the flavors--like an exquisite work of art. A side of roasted fingerling potatoes completed the dish. We felt blessed. Our journey took us next to south of the border with Chilaquiles, a traditional Mexican breakfast dish of fried tortillas and roasted poblano peppers bathed in guajillo salsa until tender. Fresh avocado and flavorful chèvre cheese provided elegance in the presentation of this comfort food. Two baked eggs provided a creamy sauce that united all the flavors and ingredients together, making it a wholesome and hearty breakfast to start the day. Chef Lan uses authentic corn tortillas and we were pleasantly surprised that her sophisticated version of Chilaquiles has a subtle yet true Mexican essence that does not overwhelm the senses. Olé! THE KING & QUEEN OF BEER FOR CHARITY

John & Denise Saputo

The numbers just get bigger every year: 450 golf tournaments, 1,400 external events, 250 corporate events, 50 yacht excursions. ALL FOR CHARITY

T

here’s no other business in the Sarasota/Manatee area, and beyond, impacting so many people’s lives, in so many ways. Meet the owner of Gold Coast Eagle Distributing, John Saputo. He’s a third-generation beer wholesaler. John was 8 years old when he first began is the beer business, working for his grandfather’s and father’s distributorship in Michigan, sweeping his way up through the ranks. Venturing out on his own, in 1977 he purchased his first distributorship in Raleigh, NC. A series of distributorships later found him and his family in Sarasota when he purchased Gold Coast Eagle Distributing in 1996. And as they say, the rest is history. I first met John in the mid 2000’s when the Gold Coast Eagle facility was east of 301 in Sarasota, before the

construction and move to the opulent facility in Lakewood Ranch (Which was built to survive a category 3+ hurricane, is self-contained/sufficient and available as a command post for emergency responders/government in times of emergency).

At the time I was involved in a sports entertainment business, met John through an acquaintance, and he was ready to do what he could to help our organization out. And he did. That’s the backbone of John Saputo. There are numerous stories of individuals reaching out in times of necessity and John tapping his vast network seeking a solution for their needs. Our requirements at the time pale in comparison to the actions he has performed on behalf of others. Asking what molded him into the individual he is, John shares, “It started when I was at the University of Detroit High School. The Jesuit institution’s dogma was, ‘You will give back. You will be there for others’. When I entered Marine Officer training their motto was, ‘Never leave a man behind. Always on the offensive’. Those guidelines made an indelible impression on me. Following those principles what I learned was if you give back to others, the payback is double.”

Hugh is the keeper of the keys, controlling and coordinating the myriad of charitable activities taking place each month. If you just add the numbers up on average that’s almost 200 events a month. Hugh adds, “There’s over 5,000 charities locally and the number continues to grow. Big or small there’s no discriminating at Gold Coast Eagle.” A few local charitable events they support, that most will relate to, are the upcoming Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix, Thunder by the Bay, LWR Main Street, Forks & Corks, Beertopia and Bradenton Area River Regatta. The full list is too extensive to publish here. ESPN’s Dick Vitale asserts, “John represents all that is good about our country. He is a born leader who has influenced the lives of many and is a winner in the ‘Game of Life’.” John’s desire to give and make an impact goes well beyond our area.

As chairman of the Vietnam War monument committee, John’s team raised $400,000 to erect a life size monument called “After the Fight”, depicting three American servicemen, including an African American, in an emotional and heroic scene transporting a seriously wounded comrade. The monument was placed on North Carolina’s capital grounds. At the time many hate groups considered these to be hallow grounds and John received several substantiated death threats. Refusing the intimidation tactics, he stayed in Raleigh (Always a family man, he did send his family back to hometown Michigan till things passed over). Later he promoted an African American employee from within his AnheuserBusch distributorship in North Carolina to a senior management position. This was the 1st African American in the beverage industry promoted to senior management in

Eastern North Carolina. Many other soft drink and beer distributorships followed his lead. In the late 1980’s, John and a few local business owners mounted a movement to integrate a local country club that was still using a “blackball” membership system. John and his wife, Denise, refused numerous membership requests from the club’s board of directors to join based on the club’s policies. Their fight to integrate the club was successful. A local sixfigure salaried executive became the 1st African American to join the club, breaking an almost 65-year nonintegration policy. “I certainly paid a price for my beliefs,” he reminisces, “but it was the right thing to do.” John’s contributions go beyond the confines of U.S. soil. As a Marine he saw active duty in the military as a Marine Officer from 1972-1976 in stations across the U.S., including time on the USS Anchorage. Upon discharge and entering the Marine Corp Reserve he was promoted to Captain and that’s where things get

In addition to charity John believes whole heartedly in equality and social justice. Let’s step back in time. Crafthouse Cocktails: Healthy Drinking for Healthy Living Having a nice cocktail at the end of the day doesn’t always have to be an unhealthy option to unwind from life’s daily grind. Matt Lindner and Charles Joly have found a way to add a pleasantly healthy twist with their new Crafthouse Cocktails.

A

lways keeping their customers in mind, Crafthouse Cocktails only uses the highest quality, 100% all natural ingredients such as organic ginger juice. Ginger juice has been shown to improve digestion, relieve pain, and even help with congestion and fighting off the common cold. Their cocktails boast a wide variety of ingredients and flavors from honey and lemon in their modern classic “Gold Rush” to the perfectly balanced, white wheat gin cocktail, “Southside”. Southside has a mix of mint and pure California lime juice. Lemons and limes have been proven to be loaded with phytonutrients that contain antioxidants and anti-cancer properties. Behind every great drink are great people behind it. Matt and Charles have continued to build their careers on integrity that can be seen in all of their business ventures. Charles, the chief mixologist, had a vision to serve the world’s finest cocktails past the confining walls of cocktail bars and has been able to do so with this unique brand. “We make Crafthouse Cocktails as if we were making it in our bar, no tricks and no gimmicks, just really great cocktails that we put into a bottle for you to enjoy,” shares Matt Lindner (co-founder). They have made a career out of their integrity. Whether it was in their food and beverage programs at one of the 11 venues they operated or in their newest venture Crafthouse Cocktails. For Crafthouse, making sure they can speak proudly about everything that goes in the bottle is of utmost importance. That is why their cocktails are made with only 100% all-natural ingredients and hand selected small batch spirits.

There are never any preservatives of any kind or ingredients you cannot pronounce. Their cocktails are simple, clean and perfectly balanced and you can taste that thoughtfulness in every sip. “As the brand grows we have been selective about where we allocate resources,” says Patrick JeanBaptiste, Partner. “We believe that the Sarasota area, including Tampa and Orlando, is a great spot to spend time on marketing and sales efforts. Because of the growth in upscale culinary experiences (restaurants, bars, epicurean markets), we see this region as one looking for premium products like Crafthouse Cocktails.” So while you’re enjoying the Florida sun, remember you don’t have to settle for anything less than a delicious on the go cocktail brought to you by your friends at Crafthouse.

The Academy At Glengary “The Journey To Wellness”

N

ationwide, the unemployment rate for those with serious mental illnesses — such as bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress, schizophrenia and major depression hovers around 90 percent. The Academy At Glengary, a new Sarasota vocational training center for adults with mental health challenges, is in a position to assist in changing that number in our community. Without a program like The Academy At Glengary’s, many individuals with mental health issues end up dependent on public assistance or get caught up in an ongoing cycle of incarceration or hospitalization. Initial funding for the recently-constructed 8,500-squarefoot facility came from Joan and Bob Geyer of Sunset Automotive. Detailed planning went into construction of the new building, with careful consideration of everything from fixtures to paint colors. The Academy At Glengary operates as a public/private partnership, supported by governmental agencies, local businesses and private philanthropy. The Geyers have already helped facilitate several partnerships between the non-profit and outside entities to support ongoing endeavors.

The Academy At Glengary is modeled after Pinellas Park’s Vincent House. Both facilities pay homage to artist Vincent van Gogh, whose mental illness drove him to suicide at age 37. The Academy offers Members vocational training in three areas: 1. Culinary Arts: Members learn not only how to prepare delicious, healthy meals for the Vincent Academy community, but also become proficient in the modern technology that is a staple in today’s professional kitchens. 2. Community Relations: This vocational team allows members to gain a variety of business and interpersonal skills that serves them in administrative and retail roles. 3. Graphic Arts and Design: Members at Vincent Academy have the opportunity to learn graphic design, photography, writing, social media and videography skills.

The Academy uses a “recovery through work” methodology for Members suffering from mental health issues. After Members receive training, staff facilitates finding them employment placements at local businesses. The culinary kitchen is designed to replicate a restaurant’s

commercial kitchen, so potential employers can be reassured that when they hire someone from Vincent, they get a well-trained, qualified employee. The graphic arts and community relations areas were designed to provide abundant natural lighting facilitating an alert and energetic environment for Members. There are rows of the latest technology in computers, videography and photography for Members, as well as, “smart screens” for group projects. This symbiotic arrangement provides employers with a steady stream of trained labor and workers (Members) with the support they need to succeed. William McKeever, Director of the Academy shares, “The creation of The Academy At Glengary is the culmination of 3 years of planning, designing, building and implementation. It’s been an amazing journey thus far, thanks to the incredible generosity of the Sarasota community. Vincent Academy is now a fully operational vocational training center that assists adults living with serious mental illness find community, develop skills and gain employment.”

The Academy can support up to 300 Members a year. The Academy At Glengary is open Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm. Tours are available as requested. Call (941) 921-9930 to schedule your visit.

Respect and Dignity The Academy At Glengary members, staff, families and visitors are treated with respect and dignity. Hair is Like a Canvas Your hair is a canvas that can project your persona, be it a rich caramel or candy floss pink; and if you are feeling bold, you could always get a fiery red or an electric blue.

T

o get these lovely colors in your tresses, you will have to lighten your hair so when you apply the color, it will be effervescent. The coloring process opens up the cuticles and gives room for the new color pigments to be deposited and give better, even results. The latest trend that has taken over is ‘fallayage’ which is essentially a warm waterfall look which gives your lovely tresses dimension and shine. We’ve all seen our favorite celebrities changing their fashion style; they are also always sporting a new hairstyle, cut and color which can inspire you to get creative ideas to give to your hair stylist. Celebrities like Halle Berry, Jessica Biel, Kim Kardashian to name a few, use the procedure known as a freehand technique and the idea is to create soft natural looks. As a Hair Stylist and Master Colorist myself I had been interested in arts from a very young age and tying the two passions together. I paint hair as I paint canvas. I tend to color hair much the same way I color a canvas, using the same sorts of color application techniques and identical color theory. I envision the strands of hair to be like ribbons and determine how the light will hit different areas, creating shadows and highlights.

Women have been coloring their hair with natural dyes long before modern synthetic hair colors and hair dyes arrived on the scene. Most of the hair colors and hair dyes available in the market today owe their existence to the discovery made by French chemist Eugene Schueller working on the compound called p-phenylenediamine that had the ability to stick to the hair shaft and color it. This compound is invariably present in all coloring products along with ammonia and peroxide in varying proportions.

Color and dye are two very commonplace words in the world of hair coloring today. There are many who use the words interchangeably as if dye is a synonym of color. However, this is not correct as despite their similarities there are many differences between color and dye. Only a century earlier, dyes were used to color fabrics only. Dyes have a connotation of being harder than a hair color today and are rarely used, whereas all beauty product companies prefer to use the word hair color for their products.

It is a fact that not that long ago women resorted to dying their hair only when it turned grey because of age, quite unlike today when one can see both men and women making use of hair color to catch attention of opposite sex and to look and feel confident. This may have something to do with modern day celebrities coloring their hair in shades that look very alluring though they use colors that are not found naturally on the heads of the people. Women see a strong connection between their femininity and the color of their hair. What is your hair color saying to the world?
