efore Cashiers developed into the quaint mountain village that it is today, the Cherokee knew this plateau at 3,500 feet as a cool, lush campground that figured prominently in their seasonal migrations. Many others have since discovered the natural wonders of this temperate forest nestled high upon the ancient slopes of the Blue Ridge Escarpment. Bisected by the Eastern Continental Divide and protected by thousands of surrounding acres of the Nantahala National Forest, Cashiers is cherished as a unique mountain destination offering nationally ranked golf courses, award winning restaurants, many notable communities and charming antique shops. Current development is balanced with hundreds of miles of hiking trails and fly fishing streams, countless waterfalls, magnificent granite faces, and enough adventure to satisfy any outdoor enthusiast. Cashiers is located in southwestern North Carolina, in the southern Appalachian Mountains, just north of the common boundary point of North Carolina, Georgia and South Carolina. Driving time is within three hours of Atlanta, Charlotte, Chattanooga, Augusta and Columbia and less than five hours from Knoxville and Birmingham. Nearby airports include Asheville (1.25 hours), Greenville (1.75 hours), Atlanta (3 hours) and Charlotte (3 hours). Just two miles east of the center of Cashiers, Lonesome Valley enjoys a rich history dating back to 1895 when E.H. Jennings acquired over 35,000 acres in the mountains of western North Carolina. Following the development of several prestigious inns along regional lakes, the Jennings family retained 800 acres of the original holdings as their own private retreat. In 2004 the family decided to invite other families and friends to share their mountain cove, affectionately known as Lonesome Valley. And so this vibrant community began. Founded upon the principles of true conservation, Lonesome Valley successfully blends thoughtful development with the protection of its vast natural resources. Over one third of the Valley is forever preserved as common green space, utilizing stream corridors, meadows and forests as natural buffers between generously sized estates. With sufficient golf and traditional country club amenities offered by other area communities, Lonesome Valley has instead focused on hiking, fishing, boating, swimming and other nature-based, family-friendly activities. Simplicity, rest and recreation combine with fine dining (at Canyon Kitchen with James Beard Award Finalist, Chef John Fleer) and festive gatherings to create the ethos of this community. Based on the enduring commitment to purposeful excellence established five generations ago, Lonesome Valley will continue to provide joyful family memories for generations to come. Lonesome Valley is framed by Cow Rock Mountain and Laurel Knob along with other ridges that form the largest box canyon in the East. At 4,200 feet atop Cow Rock Mountain exists Lonesome Ridge, a 90+ acre parklike estate overlooking the valley below. With unsurpassed vistas in every direction, flat and gently sloping topography, paved roads and utilities already established, and several well groomed homesites, this estate can be preserved as a single large tract or subdivided into as many as six individual parcels. Several trails link a variety of viewing decks, wildflower meadows, picnic and gaming areas on manicured lawns along with walking connections to Lonesome Valley to the west and Panthertown Valley to the northeast. Panthertown Valley, comprising over six thousand acres of Nantahala National Forest, is known as the “Yosemite of the East with its signature granite faces, trout streams and miles of trails for hiking and mountain biking. Lonesome Ridge is a pinnacle property with exceptional characteristics, providing unique opportunities to invest in family, friends and the future.
