His to r y The 4-H Youth Development Foundation was originally the ”4-H Recognition Committee,” which began in the early 1950’s. It was created to recognize superior service and achievement among 4-H members and adult volunteers. The Recognition Committee received its official charter in 1962 and was incorporated as the Texas 4-H Youth Development Foundation, with a 501-(c)-3 non-profit designation. The Foundation has flourished with the help of large and small businesses, corporations and individuals who share a common desire to support a statewide effort with a proven track record of preparing the future leaders of Texas.

HANDS RESPECT

The Foundation is comprised of 41 trustees who understand the importance of improving the future for young people. This is a nonprofit volunteer group whose main purpose is to solicit funding and award scholarships to members of 4-H, Texas Cooperative Extension’s youth program. The Foundation, Extension personnel, and the almost 50,000 adult4-H volunteers are the backbone of this organization.

Texas 4-H currently receives several hundred thousand dollars in program support and almost S2 million in scholarship funding annually from the efforts of the 4-H Youth Development Foundation. The 4-H Foundation plans to significantly increase that effort as new private industry supporters are identified and brought on board throughout the state. The Texas 4-H Foundation invites all citizens of Texas to consider joining them in their efforts to increase the impact that 4-H is having on the young people of this state.
