REFLECTION: Having to complete this Furniture Design module fully online sounds pretty shocking to me. As before everything started, I imagined the module to be more hands-on, using the equipment in the workshop in Taylors and working in big groups! Although it wasn't how I expected it to be, it was also an eye opening experience to me. In the first project, which was focusing heavily on joineries has really enlightened me on how the things we see/use daily needs joinery. Cracking our heads on what to do every week and assignments starting to pile up made it harder to manage my time. In the mean time, it has taught me how to pay attention to details where it is often ignored by many and to learn how to manage my time to complete my sketches. During the second project, we were given the chance to listen to a guest speaker, Mr. Lim from Bold Diseno who shared with us the process of furniture making and some of the technologies involved. As it was an option whether to work in groups of 2 or individually, I took on the chance to partner up with my classmate. We designed a Side table wit a mini charging station and had fun discussing about the types of joineries, design and materials that we should apply. Lastly, the final project which was based on Italo Calvino's book, Invisible City where we had to choose a city to focus on based on the narrative. It was my first time hearing about this and was really interesting. It was quite an experience visualizing and sketching about I envisioned Ersilia (chosen city). Though it was fun with the sketchbook part, got to admit, I had quite a hard time with the prototypes as model-making wasn't my forte and didn't have enough practice with it. To sum up, this semester has been tough but plenty to learn. I am grateful that I have learnt something from each of the assignments.
