MY DEGREE "I’ve always been passionate about outdoor adventure. The best part of this course are the weekly practical sessions, which I think are unparalleled at any other university. To be successful in my industry you have to show you can do the activities as well as talk about them. The standout moment for me is one of standing waist deep in snow in the Cairngorms mountains with the biggest smile! I’d like to pass that feeling of exhilaration on to others so now I’m studying for a BA in Outdoor Education and continuing to gain as many practical qualifications as I can. I’m already working as a freelance outdoor instructor so hopefully more opportunities will open for me. My advice to anyone thinking of becoming an adventure sports undergraduate is ‘Just go for it. You won’t regret it'."

MY

DEGREE

"I’m an eighth generation farmer but I’m the first woman to oversee the day to day running of our 250-acre dairy farm. Committing to the family business wasn’t an instant decision. I have a geography degree and a Masters in Rural Estate and Land Management and I worked as a land agent for a while. Working with different farmers made me realise that I could make a difference on our own farm and I decided to become a student again! My Reaseheath degree covered so many interesting topics, like finance and business, but it was the extra experiences which made it special – the visits to farms and businesses, the range of speakers and the people you met. That was what gave me the confidence to progress and change."

MY DEGREE "I was appointed Assistant Manager at Rowton Castle, a popular wedding venue in Shropshire, just before completing my degree. I’d been able to work part-time at the castle alongside my degree, thanks to the flexibility of the programme and the encouragement I got from my lecturers to gain industry experience. I’m now responsible for looking after the bride and groom during their special day and I oversee the wedding breakfasts, speeches and other formalities as well as supporting the other managers. My degree gave me a wider appreciation of how businesses work and was very relevant. For instance, I researched staff training for my dissertation and I aim to apply this knowledge by implementing a training programme at my workplace."
