In September, Rea Valley Tractors acquired the trade and assets of Russells’ Cubley branch, a well-established New Holland dealership on the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border. This acquisition expands our New Holland presence, enhancing our existing Staffordshire territory and extending our reach into Derbyshire.
Russells has a storied legacy in the agricultural sector, having served Yorkshire’s farming communities since 1849. Originally a manufacturer of award-winning farming equipment, Russells evolved into a key player in tractor sales, becoming a prominent New Holland dealer in the 1980s. The highly skilled team at Cubley brings decades of expertise to Rea Valley Tractors, further enhancing our ability to support local farmers and contractors.
This acquisition marks a significant milestone for us, strengthening our New Holland dealership network and supporting our commitment to providing top-tier agricultural solutions throughout the region.
While enhancing our portfolio, we remain fully dedicated to JCB, with the new Cubley site to become the JCB Centre of Excellence. The state-of-the-art facility at Cubley will house a specialised team providing expert JCB product support to our loyal customers. The depot-based team from Russells Cubley join Rea Valley Tractors as part of the acquisition ensuring seamless continuity in both operations and customer service.
“We are delighted to welcome the team from Russells Cubley branch into the RVT family,” said Matt Mulligan, Managing Director at Rea Valley Tractors. “Their expertise and experience will undoubtedly strengthen our ability to serve local customers, and it represents a significant step in enhancing our capabilities and extending our reach within the region.”
To consolidate operations and better serve customers, our Sudbury team has relocated to the expansive 30,000 sq. ft. Cubley premises, located just four miles away. The new site also houses our Horticulture Centre, further broadening the company’s service capabilities.
Existing customers will benefit from an expanded product lineup that includes the full range of New Holland machinery, along with our core franchises of JCB, Kuhn Farm Machinery, Joskin, and Bailey Trailers.
Additionally, our domestic ground care products from Milwaukee, Stihl, Cub Cadet, Iseki and Corvus UTV will provide customers with an unmatched selection of high-quality equipment to meet all their horticultural needs.
Simon Clarke, Chairman of Rea Valley Tractors, expressed his excitement over the acquisition: “Acquiring the New Holland territory in Staffordshire marks a significant milestone for Rea Valley Tractors, and it is a matter close to my heart. As a Staffordshire farmer, I am thrilled that we are now able to offer local customers the full New Holland range, a product line we have eagerly anticipated reintroducing into the region since taking over the New Holland franchise in 2022. We look forward to building on the excellent service that New Holland customers have experienced locally, this will of course complement our JCB product offering.”
Each of Rea Valley Tractors branches operates as a comprehensive sales, service, and parts hub, fully equipped to independently support the local farming community. Integrated with group-wide resources including mobile parts vans, in-house product specialists, dedicated Precision Agriculture team, the collective company effort ensures customers across the region receive unparalleled support and service standards in the industry.
David Rapkins, CNH Business Director UK & ROI, also commented on the strategic significance of the acquisition: “We are pleased to announce Rea Valley Tractors’ expansion into the New Holland Cubley territory in Staffordshire/Derbyshire to replace Russells who have successfully managed the area since 2016. This important change in the New Holland dealer network is part of some key strategic changes in territory management around the country that have resulted in Russells recently expanding their operations elsewhere and will allow New Holland and our dealer partners to maximise resources and depot coverage in these areas. This has enabled Rea Valley Tractors to expand into an area of the country where they had previously successfully operated for many years and provides continuity of service for all of our customers in the Staffs/Derbys area as they will move into the Russells Cubley depot upon contractual completion. As equally important, this provides continuity for the fantastic staff at Cubley, who we thank for their continued dedication and commitment to customers and New Holland. Going forward, we have every confidence that Rea Valley Tractors’ distinguished knowledge base will build on the success of Russells in this area.”

We are delighted to announce the successful integration of Teme Valley Tractors Knighton into the Rea Valley Tractors family! After careful preparation and a smooth transition, we are thrilled to officially welcome the Knighton team. This milestone, along with the earlier integration of Teme Valley Tractors Welshpool, represents an exciting chapter in our growth journey.
Our strength has always been our people. Adding the dedicated teams from both Knighton and Welshpool enhances our capabilities and reinforces our commitment to delivering exceptional service to the agricultural communities we proudly serve.
We are excited about the opportunities this integration brings and look forward to supporting you with an even stronger network. Thank you for your continued trust and support.
Earlier this year, Rea Valley Tractors was appointed as the Grimme Premium Service Partner for the Lancashire region. This strategic move by Grimme UK aims to strengthen localised support, ensuring customers receive top-tier service and access to essential parts.
The Ormskirk branch of Rea Valley Tractors now oversees Grimme aftersales in Lancashire, offering a comprehensive stock of replacement parts and delivering fast response service support across the region. Grimme UK will continue to handle sales directly within the area.
Lancashire’s root crop industry has seen significant changes in recent years, with fewer growers and a reduction in cultivated acreage. As growers increasingly depend on fewer machines operating for longer periods and adopt more advanced technologies, the need for reliable service and timely parts supply has become more critical than ever.
For the past 18 years, Rea Valley Tractors has been a trusted service dealer for Grimme UK, providing reliable support in the Derbyshire and Staffordshire regions. “We have experience supporting Grimme UK customers from our Sudbury branch for many years now,” says Matt Mulligan, Managing Director at Rea Valley Tractors. “Our team is well-versed in the specific needs of growers and the
demands of the working environment, and we are confident in our ability to offer the necessary aftersales support to ensure their continued success and reduce downtime.”
We are delighted that Grimme UK recognises our commitment to supporting its grower communities and we look forward to continuing to support its product in a wider territory.
Adam Cooper, Branch Manager at Rea Valley Tractors Ormskirk comments “We’re thrilled to be taking on the new role as Grimme service dealer for our area. It allows us to further strengthen key customer relationships in what is a new territory for us, whilst providing the much-needed focussed support that Grimme customers need to operate efficiently.”
“We’re happy to be able to announce this partnership to our UK dealer network”, says Tom Goose, Dealer Development Manager for Grimme UK. “After carefully observing the UK market, we felt we needed a Premium Partner with a large enough scope to lift the services we can provide to local potato growers to an even higher level. Rea Valley Tractors fitted the criteria perfectly, and after having worked with them for some time now through their Sudbury branch, we are confident that their expertise and commitment to customer service will greatly benefit our customers in the local area.”
In this Q&A, we’re sitting down with Georgia Withers, who recently took on the position of Service Commercial Manager, to talk about her journey at Rea Valley Tractors and her role in supporting our customers. Read on to learn more about Georgia, her insights into the agriculture industry, and the advice she’d give to anyone looking to grow their career in this field!
Thanks for taking the time to chat with us, Georgia. When did you start working at Rea Valley Tractors?
Georgia: I joined in December 2016 as a Parts Assistant at the Sudbury depot. Over the years, I took on more responsibilities, and in 2022, I was promoted to Assistant Parts Manager. Around that time, I also completed a Level 3 course in team leadership, which really helped move my career forward.
Did you always dream of working for an agricultural dealer?
Georgia: Honestly, no! Growing up, I wanted to be a vet. I love caring for livestock and as a kid I was always around animals, but I didn’t see myself in the agriculture world quite like I do now.
So, was Rea Valley Tractors your first experience in the world of Ag?
Georgia: No, after completing my Level 3 Agriculture course at Reaseheath College, I worked on local farms, doing everything from milking to calf rearing. Being directly involved with the day-to-day rhythm of farm life gave me a true appreciation for what farming is really about. That hands-on experience was invaluable in preparing me for my career.
What motivates you to get up and out of bed each morning?
Georgia: I love that every day is different – no two days are the same. I really enjoy catching up with our customers to understand how we can better support them, whether it’s helping them find the right solutions for their equipment needs or simply being there to answer questions about their warranty or support package.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Georgia: Blasting 90s pop music in the car and having a good old singsong. There’s nothing like singing along to the classics to hype me up for the day ahead!
What does your day-to-day look like in your current role?
Georgia: Each day can bring a different challenge. My work revolves around maintaining customer relationships, whether that’s managing
maintenance contracts, visiting customers as their service agreements end, or exploring opportunities to offer extended warranties or aftercare. It’s all about ensuring our customers feel supported well beyond their purchase.
What do you enjoy most about working at Rea Valley Tractors?
Georgia: Hands down, it’s the people! Both my colleagues and customers make working at RVT rewarding. I get to work with a fantastic team that’s supportive and knowledgeable, and every day I meet customers from all walks of life. Hearing their stories, understanding their needs, and building those relationships is what I enjoy most. It’s a people business.
What advice would you give to someone looking to grow their career in the Ag industry?
Georgia: Embrace every opportunity for hands-on experience and never stop learning. Agriculture is a dynamic field, and gaining practical skills is invaluable. Don’t be afraid to network - build relationships with people in the industry, as they can offer guidance and support. Lastly, stay curious and ask the questions; and don’t be afraid to have an opinion!
Lastly, what’s next for you?
Georgia: Continuing to work closely with our customers, I’m focusing on supporting aftersales service, ensuring they receive the support they need and know we’re here for them. Farming is very much a relationship business, and it’s unlike any other industry - there’s a genuine trust and respect that underpins every interaction.
Nurturing those relationships is incredibly rewarding, and I’m excited to continue strengthening those connections for the long term.
Georgia has thrived at Rea Valley Tractors, consistently highlighting the importance of customer support and aftercare. She understands that exceptional service goes beyond the sale; it’s about making sure customers feel valued and supported throughout their entire experience.
Good luck for the future Georgia!
We’re thrilled to announce both new faces and familiar ones rejoining the Rea Valley Tractors team! As we continue to grow and enhance our service, we’re excited to welcome these talented individuals who bring fresh expertise, passion, and a wealth of experience to our business.

Back at the start of August, our very own Nigel Worthington, Rea Valley Tractors’ Group Commercial Director, caught up with BBC Radio Shropshire’s Johnty O’Donnell to give him an exclusive tour of a New Holland T7.300.
The interview was part of a special farming feature BBC Radio Shropshire put together, and we were thrilled to be part of it. If you missed it at the time, here’s how the interview went.
Johnty: Nigel, first impressions – this tractor looks like something out of a science fiction movie!
Nigel: It does feel quite futuristic, doesn’t it? This isn’t even the biggest tractor in our line-up, but at 300 horsepower, it’s incredibly popular among larger contractors and farmers. The technology here is all about efficiency and adaptability.
Johnty: Speaking of tech, the cab feels more like a cockpit! What’s all this high-tech equipment?
Nigel: Yes, there’s a lot going on in here. We have satellite-guided steering, which ensures precision down to millimetres. Plus, the latest models allow for variable rate seed and fertiliser applications, optimising inputs across different field types. This machine does everything from section control for sprayers to satellite-guided straight lines, all with efficiency in mind.
Johnty: So, after completing a job, can you analyse the data collected by the tractor?
Nigel: Exactly. These tractors record data like yield during harvesting or fertiliser spread patterns. With our ISOBUS system, data from various tasks syncs seamlessly
with our machines, allowing farmers to analyse field performance in detail. Many of our customers work closely with our precision farming team to maximise these insights.
Johnty: It seems like Rea Valley Tractors has really embraced innovation. How has the company changed since its early days?
Nigel: Well, Rea Valley started in 1984 with humble beginnings. Now, we’ve grown across seven depots with around 190 staff. What hasn’t changed, though, is our customer-first approach. No matter where our depots are, each operates like a small, local business. We ensure each of them has a full team; sales, parts, and service, because we want to be as close and responsive to our local communities as possible.
Johnty: What’s the key to keeping customers happy in this industry?
Nigel: Customer service. Every staff member here is driven by solving customer issues, whether it’s a part they need, a repair, or an upgrade. Farming communities appreciate that we understand the challenges they face, and we’re proud to stand by them every step of the way.
Johnty: Nigel, thank you so much for the tour and insight into Rea Valley’s incredible growth and innovations.
Nigel: My pleasure - happy to show you around anytime!
As agriculture continues to evolve, it’s essential to share knowledge about the latest technologies and practices, helping both the farming community and the public understand the changes shaping our industry. Rea Valley Tractors remains committed to its customers, combining traditional values with innovative solutions to support farming for the future.

In the fast-paced world of modern farming, reliability and efficiency are essential. For contractors like Latham Brothers, having the right machinery is just one piece of the puzzle.
It’s the ongoing service and aftersales support that makes the real difference, ensuring equipment runs smoothly and downtime is kept to a minimum. That’s where Rea Valley Tractors stands out, offering top-tier support that keeps their customers ahead in a demanding industry.
Latham Brothers, a family-run contracting business and manufacturers of ATV trailers and equipment, made up of John Latham, his brother Morris, and their sons Harry and Jack, have been working in the agricultural sector for generations. John has been contracting since he was just 15 years old, and the business provides a wide range of services, from hedge cutting to lime spreading and spraying. In a tough year like 2024, with unpredictable weather making work even harder, the support from Rea Valley Tractors has been crucial.
Quality machinery backed by exceptional support
John’s relationship with Rea Valley Tractors (RVT), particularly with Mark Wallbank, Field Parts Advisor at the Ormskirk depot, has spanned over a decade, built on trust and a commitment to keeping Latham Brothers’ operations running smoothly.
Their most recent purchase, two New Holland T7.210 tractors from salesmen Tom Rigg at RVT Ormskirk, were carefully chosen to meet the
demands of their growing business. “The T7.210’s are great all-rounders, they go in front of anything. We use them daily and we wouldn’t be without them”, explains Harry, John’s son.
Yet, as John points out, the value of RVT goes far beyond the initial sale. “When you’re running a farm, things can go wrong at any time,” John explains. “Having Mark and the team ready to help at a moment’s notice is what makes all the difference. They’re always available to offer advice or get parts sorted quickly when we need them.”
Ian Eddleston, Service Manager at Ormskirk, has also played an instrumental role in supporting Latham Brothers. “Mark and Ian are fantastic. When you ring them, a promise is a promise. They understand the pressures we face as contractors, and they always deliver when it comes to getting things fixed.” John adds.
With the dependable support of Rea Valley Tractors, Latham Brothers can rely on both top-quality machinery and a responsive team, keeping them well-prepared to meet the demands of each day with confidence.
Aftersales that keep you running
Investing in high-quality machinery is just the beginning. It’s the aftersales service - encompassing planned maintenance, out-of-hours repairs, and access to a well-stocked parts department - that ensures businesses like Latham Brothers keep running smoothly. Rea Valley Tractors comprehensive aftersales support is designed to give farmers and contractors the resources they need, exactly when they need them, helping to minimise downtime and maintain productivity.
“There have been times when we’ve needed parts in a hurry, and Mark’s been able to get them to us fast,” John says. “In this line of work, you need that reliability. That’s why RVT stands out - they don’t just sell you the machine, they support you after.”
This level of aftersales care, from routine maintenance packages to rapid response repairs, is tailored to meet the specific needs of each customer, allowing them to focus on running their business without worrying about downtime.
A trusted partnership in challenging times 2024 has been one of the toughest years for Latham Brothers, with unpredictable weather conditions making their already demanding workload even harder. “This year has been the hardest we’ve ever had,”
John admits. “We’ve been really up against it, and the support and trust we’ve had from RVT has been absolutely paramount.”
In an industry where time is money, having a dealership that understands the challenges of farming and contracting is invaluable. RVT’s ability to deliver on their promises, whether it’s getting parts delivered quickly or ensuring that equipment is serviced in time, has made them a trusted partner for Latham Brothers.
As the demands of farming and contracting continue to evolve, John and the family are confident that their relationship with Rea Valley Tractors will continue to thrive.
“It’s the people behind the equipment that matter most,” John concludes.“Mark, Ian, and the team at RVT are the reason we keep coming back. They always understand our needs and deliver when time is critical”.
Rea Valley Tractors provides Latham Brothers with the support and reliability they need to succeed - not just today, but for the future.
Rea Valley Tractors’ success is deeply rooted in the people who make up our team and the relationships they build with our customers. Luke Chidley is a perfect example of this commitment.
Luke joined Rea Valley Tractors in 2017 through an apprenticeship program, starting in parts sales at our Welshpool branch. From day one, his natural talent for customer service was obvious. Luke’s friendly approach and genuine passion for helping others quickly set him apart. His hands-on experience working on the family farm in South Shropshire and operating tractors on a large arable estate gave him the practical knowledge to help customers find the right parts and solutions for their needs.
From his early days in Welshpool to earning a Level 3 Parts Diploma, Lukes journey has been defined by hard work, dedication, and a commitment to building strong, lasting customer relationships. Having advanced to Territory Sales Manager for leading brands like New Holland, JCB, and Kuhn, he now thrives in his role as Field Parts Manager. In this position, he goes beyond simply delivering parts - he ensures that our customers are supported at every step. By overseeing operations on the ground, he guarantees timely access to the essential parts they need for everything from ploughs, cultivators, tractors, telehandlers, and trailers, to oils, grease, workshop accessories, wearing metal, and everyday essentials.
A key aspect of Luke’s role is building and maintaining strong relationships with his customers. He works closely with them to understand their needs and ensure the right parts are delivered promptly. Luke also collaborates with the branch teams to streamline parts availability and manage logistics, striving to minimise any downtime for the customer.
‘From day one, I’ve focused on building relationships,’ Luke says. ‘Whether it’s a small job or a large order, every interaction counts. Being there for our customers when they need us is what truly matters, and in return, it’s incredibly rewarding to see those relationships grow.’
Luke’s days are anything but typical. He spends much of his time in the field, visiting customers and ensuring they have the necessary parts to keep their machinery running smoothly. Whether it’s stocking up on essential parts or sourcing hardto-find components, Luke is the go-to guy for all things parts-related.
‘Communication is key’, Luke further explains. ‘Staying in close contact with both customers and our team ensures that everything runs smoothly. Having the right systems in place to track parts availability is crucial, but it’s only half of it. Keeping in contact with our customers is essential. They need to know they can rely on us, and that if they have an urgent need, we’ll go above and beyond to make sure they’re back up and running as quickly as possible.’

Get an insider’s look at the skills, challenges, and dedication that drive our service technicians every day.
Ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes to keep our operations running smoothly? Join us for a day-in-the-life with our service technicians, where you’ll discover the unique blend of skills, knowledge, and problem-solving required in the field. From early morning prep to handling unexpected on-site challenges, these unsung heroes tackle it all with focus and expertise, keeping the agricultural world moving.
For a service technician working on tractors and agricultural equipment, no two days are the same. With the freedom to work on a range of high-powered machinery and access to cutting-edge diagnostic tools, a service technician’s career is both exciting and rewarding. One day they could be working on the latest newgen tractors, and the next, providing emergency repairs to critical farm equipment.
The day starts early, but every skilled technician knows that preparation is key. One of the perks of the job is the access to specialist tooling and technology, supported by a generous tooling allowance.
Each service vehicle is fully stocked with advanced diagnostic systems, power tools, and equipment, ready to handle any task - from routine maintenance to complex repairs.
With the van loaded and job schedule received from our service office, our technician hits the road, confident that they’re ready for whatever challenges the day might bring. It’s this level of autonomy - being trusted to manage your own schedule and handle jobs independently - that makes being an agricultural service technician so appealing.
The first stop is a farm with a fleet of New Holland tractors due for their scheduled maintenance, which will include oil and filter changes, inspecting hydraulic systems, checking tyre pressure, and ensuring that the tractor’s engine is running smoothly.
Today’s modern tractors are equipped with advanced technology, requiring technicians to stay updated on the latest systems and continually adapt their skills to troubleshoot and maintain these complex machines effectively.
The freedom to work on a variety of manufacturers’ equipment keeps the job exciting, as you never know what the day will bring! But with the right training and tooling, our technicians are ready to tackle anything. And with every job, service technicians build valuable experience that enhances their skill set.
Next, it’s off to another nearby farm, responding to an urgent callout. The hydraulic system on a JCB 532-60 has canbus error codes and the farmer needs it fixed quickly to keep the day’s tasks on track. This is where the real challenge - and excitement - comes in!
After using the onboard diagnostic tools to pinpoint the problem, the technician discovers a faulty boom harness Fortunately, it’s a part that they stock on the van, and within a couple of hours, the loader is back up and running.
Service technicians often work under pressure, thinking critically and solving problems on the spot. However, this dynamic environment also brings a great sense of job satisfaction, as they play a vital role in keeping essential machinery operational.
With farms spread out across the countryside, technicians spend a good part of the day on the road. Lunch is usually eaten on the go, but that’s part of the freedom that comes with the job - you’re not tied to a desk or a workshop every day. You get to experience the outdoors, enjoy the scenery, and have the freedom to manage your own schedule.
In the afternoon, the technician heads to another farm for a preventive maintenance visit. This time, it’s a fleet of combines that need a pre-season checkup. These types of visits are crucial to prevent costly breakdowns during peak seasons like harvest. The technician inspects all moving parts, lubricates components, and checks
fluid levels to ensure everything is in good working order.
Routine maintenance helps farmers avoid unexpected downtime, and technicians are often seen as trusted advisors. They provide tips on how to care for machinery and spot potential issues before they turn into costly repairs.
As the day winds down, our service technician will head back to their depot. After restocking the van with parts from our large inventory held at each branch and reviewing the next day’s schedule, they take a moment to complete any paperwork and report back on their day.
Establishing strong relationships with equipment operators and farmers is essential for any service technician. Taking the time to discuss any issues, clarify the work performed, and provide helpful tips on routine maintenance fosters trust and encourages collaboration.
These valuable conversations not only help our technicians better understand what farmers need but also empower operators to keep their equipment running smoothly. By focusing on building relationships, our technicians go beyond being just a service providerthey become key partners and trusted advisors, committed to supporting the success of the people they work with.
One of the best aspects of being an agricultural technician is the freedom to work on different equipment, in diverse environments, and solve unique challenges every day. You’re not confined to one place or routine, and each job presents a new opportunity to learn.
Technicians are equipped with the latest diagnostic tools and technology, allowing them to work efficiently and expertly on modern machinery. You’ll have all the specialist kit you need to succeed, from hydraulic flow & pressure meters to high-tech diagnostic systems.
Agricultural service technicians don’t just fix equipment - they build strong relationships with the farming community. You’ll be a trusted partner, helping farmers and contractors keep their operations running smoothly.
As technology continues to evolve in the farming industry, skilled technicians are in high demand. With the combination of mechanical skills and knowledge of advanced systems, this is a career with excellent job security and opportunities for growth.
For those who love working outdoors, solving problems, and using the latest technology, becoming an agricultural service technician offers a fulfilling and dynamic career. You’ll have the freedom to work independently, the tools to get the job done, and the satisfaction of knowing your work helps keep the agricultural industry thriving.

Who better to reflect on the changing years than our original founding member, Ian Vance, alongside our Managing Director, Matt Mulligan?
In 1984 Ian, along with Gordon Potter and Chris Willner established the business in Pontesbury following the closure of Alexander & Duncan, where they had all worked together previously.
The early 1980s brought significant shifts to farming with the introduction of milk quotas and a downturn in spending. However the trio – the youngest team to be appointed as a John Deere dealership – set about laying the foundations for future growth.
Ian, Rea Valley Tractors’ territory sales manager in Shrewsbury, remembers when farms were numerous – each equipped with its own array of machinery.
He reflects: “The landscape has shifted dramatically, with farms consolidating and expanding in size. This trend, coupled with the encroachment of supermarkets on farmers’ margins, has reshaped the farming industry, and thus that of dealerships too.
“In the early days of Rea Valley Tractors, I was made aware of research about the horsepower required to farm the UK. As horsepower and efficiency increases, the number of units required inevitably comes down. The evolution of farming has been marked by technology and innovation aimed at boosting productivity, and sustainability. As a dealership, moving with the times whilst maintaining exceptional service and core relationships is key to survival.
I remember sitting at the kitchen table with a longtime farmer, Mr Jones. After our usual chat about the weather, our conversation turned to how farming had changed over the years.
“With Labour shortages and rising costs... it’s a race against time and with automation on the horizon, who knows what the future holds?” We realised that in farming, as in life, the only constant is change. And amidst the uncertainty, farmers are ever the optimist and we should take comfort in embracing the journey, one step at a time.
Precision farming, the advent of autonomous machinery, and innovations like autonomous tractors and drones have revolutionised operations in the past few years, streamlining tasks, improving accuracy, and empowering data-driven decision-making, ushering in the era of smart farming.
It is no surprise then that in recent years the dealership structure in the UK and Europe
has also experienced strategic change and restructuring too, Rea Valley Tractors being no exception. Acquired by Simon Clarke in 2010; owner of Derbyshire dealership Agricultural Industrial Services Ltd (AIS), Rea Valley Tractors became the trading name, consolidating both entities under a unified brand for management efficiency. Earilier this year the successful acquisition of neighbouring New Holland dealer Teme Valley Tractors added two new locations and over 25 experienced personnel to the team.
Matt Mulligan, Rea Valley Tractors Managing Director, said: “Over the past decade, the agricultural dealership landscape has undergone significant change, necessitating our transition from John Deere to New Holland in 2022 to ensure the sustainability of our business. While it stirred industry ripples, it was vital for maintaining the personal, quality service our customers know and trust. It was undoubtedly a challenging move, but our commitment to prioritising farmers and ensuring their longterm success remains our top priority.”
Matt continues: “What matters most to Rea Valley Tractors is the customer. It’s all about building strong, lasting relationships. Customers often care more about how we help them after they buy a tractor than about which brand or colour they choose. They know that ongoing support and service are key after they invest.”
Whilst RVT has increased its territories, each depot has the customer relationships front and
centre of everything they do. All depots have their own local team who were born and bred in the local area.”
Matt says: “Manufacturer shake-ups to the UK dealer network have seen some bold moves in recent years affecting dealers and customers alike. We’re proud to represent New Holland, JCB & Kuhn Farm Machinery. I am a firm believer that what you need in order to sell farm machinery is customers to sell to, so that is why dealerships are getting bigger. Territories have to increase, and having the skills to manage the expansion successfully is essential.
“Dealing with farmers is still such an enjoyable transaction and there are unique values in farming relationships that do not exist in any other industry. Keeping those relationships across territories is a core element of the Rea Valley Tractors offering. There are few industries where a deal can be confirmed on a handshake these days, but agriculture is one of them.
“Trying to scale and offer a similar service across an enlarged territory, you have got to be very careful that you don’t become a huge corporate monster. Arguably that is an easier way to manage, but it isn’t the business model we have here, we want our employees, many of whom are long-standing, at a local level to have the autonomy and freedom to deal and work like they are working out of one depot, local relationships are a core part of the RVT business.”
Ian Vance talks about how things have changed: “I remember one loyal customer walking into our office in Pontesbury in the mid 80’s and he said to me. “Ian,” he said with a wry smile, “these times may be tough, but a good tractor and a trustworthy dealer are worth their weight in gold.” That’s something I’ve never forgotten.
“The march of technology has been relentless, driving innovation in farming equipment, although it has slowed a little. From advancements in fuel types to the rise of autonomy and precision farming, Rea Valley Tractors has remained at the forefront, investing in expertise and infrastructure to support farmers’ evolving needs.
“Rea Valley Tractors remains anchored in its commitment to local communities. With a team deeply rooted in the industry, the company
continues to uphold the values of trust and reliability that have defined its legacy. With 40 years of experience under our belt we are well positioned to navigate the uncertainties of the future.”
RVT is backed up by a team of professional and fully qualified after-sales service and parts specialists who honour tradition and embrace ambition. As technology and precision farming increase, so does the need for in-house technology and a dedicated software department. The future is advanced smart farming and automation, and Rea Valley Tractors is proud to be at the forefront with a team available to support customers and users ensuring they get the maximum return on their investment.
At the heart of Rea Valley Tractors are individuals with aspirations, eager to carve their paths in an industry ripe with opportunity. For those embarking on careers within the company, the journey promises a blend of tradition and innovation, with apprenticeships available in several sectors of the business.
“Across all our depots we are genuinely lucky to have incredible people working with us.”
Says Matt Mulligan. “Recently staff from across our branches were honoured for their length of service - they have amassed an amazing 546
years between them! “
Next Generation
Matt continues: “As Gary Waters, who has been with us at Rea Valley Tractors since 1987, stands as a testament to longevity and dedication, his daughter Katie who started work at RVT earlier this year, symbolises the next generation, poised to contribute to the company’s legacy.”
As Rea Valley Tractors commemorates four decades of service to the farming community, reflections on the past intertwine with visions of the future.
Matt Mulligan concludes: “The industry is undergoing significant change across all sectors, and dealerships are no exception. We take great pride in our history and look forward with enthusiasm to what lies ahead. We’re very proud of our past and excited by our future.”
Rea Valley Tractors celebrates its 40th anniversary with Ian Vance and Matt Mulligan looking to the future with optimism. With a legacy of innovation and resilience, the company is poised to navigate the everchanging landscape of agriculture, guided by its dedication to staying ahead with innovation and technology and serving farmers with personal relationships, integrity and expertise.
As we celebrate our 40th anniversary milestone, it’s been rewarding to look at back on how far we have come and appreciate the meaningful relationships we’ve grown along the way. Recently, we had the pleasure of catching up with some of our long-standing customers, such as Michael Tomlinson, a devoted farmer from Staffordshire whose passion for agriculture extends beyond profession - it’s a way of life for him.
With a farm spanning 100 acres primarily focused on arable farming, Michael’s commitment to innovation and modernisation has consistently translated into successful yields. We delved into Michael’s journey with Rea Valley Tractors and how it has shaped his farming practices and aspirations.
Q: Can you share how your relationship with Rea Valley Tractors began and evolved over the years?
A: Certainly! It all started 15 years ago when I invested in a John Deere 6125R tractor. Since then, whenever I have needed them, they have consistently delivered top-notch service
and support, which keeps me returning. There is a trust there now – they understand the demands of the farm, and when called upon, I can rely on them to respond. I have since bought my Shelbourne hedge cutter and Kuhn maize drill from Rea Valley Tractors.
Q: Could you tell us if there has been anyone at Rea Valley Tractors who has stood out for you?
A: Nick Wells. I see Nick as more than just a salesman; he’s a valued member of my team, and a friend too. He completely understands our challenges – he knows first hand what our pain points are, and he genuinely wants to help us succeed. Q: How does Rea Valley Tractors support you in staying ahead with agricultural innovation?
A: From state-of-the-art machinery to cuttingedge precision farming solutions, Rea Valley Tractors provide the tools I need to thrive in a competitive industry. Kit is readily available for demonstration, and throughout the year they hold events where you can experience the equipment and see its capabilities. Knowing I have their support makes adopting new technology exciting, rather than daunting.
Q: You mentioned your Kuhn maize drill. How does it contribute to your contracting business, and what makes it stand out?
A: It’s essential for accurate seed rates and placement, which is crucial for my contracting
business. Equipped with the latest technology, it performs to the best of its ability time and time again. It’s reliable and trustworthy, and when it’s hooked on and working, I know I can get the job done!
Q: Among your equipment, what’s your favourite piece, and how does it contribute to your business?
A: My favourite piece of equipment is my Shelbourne Hedge cutter. It’s not just a tool; it’s a vital part of my business. With its reliability and performance, its capable of tackling the toughest of tasks smoothly and efficiently.
Q: Looking ahead, what excites you about the future of your farm and your work?
A: I’m genuinely excited about the future, and the prospect of further innovations in sustainable farming practices and technology. Knowing I have the support of Rea Valley Tractors, I see opportunities for even greater efficiency and productivity, and I am confident in the success and growth of my farm and business.
Michael’s experience with Rea Valley Tractors underlines the importance of building strong partnerships and embracing innovation as vital elements in achieving success and sustainability in agriculture. As Michael looks ahead to the future of his farm and his work, he is set to continue implementing cutting-edge practices and leveraging collaborative efforts to drive growth and resilience in his operations. We wish Michael all the best for 2024.

Our Precision team recently transformed a Kuhn Altis 24-meter mounted sprayer with an Ag Leader ISO Liquid system, upgrading it from manual to automatic section and rate control. By installing an ISOBUS conversion, they utilised the sprayer’s existing components - including six section valves, a flow meter, and a regulation valve - to achieve precise liquid application with minimal overlap, reducing input costs and improving operational efficiency.
Here’s a closer look at the upgrades and features that make this conversion beneficial to modern farming practices.
The heart of the system, the rate and swath control module connects to the sprayer components and allows precise control of each section. This module enables automatic section adjustments and ensures even application across the field.
Fitted in a New Holland T7 tractor, the InCommand 800 is an 8-inch touchscreen display with full ISOBUS and section control capabilities. This display allows operators to view real-time data and make quick adjustments, providing seamless control and an intuitive interface for the entire system.
The GPS 7500 receiver on the tractor provides correction signals, enhancing accuracy and ensuring that applications are consistent across each pass, especially important for larger fields and variable-rate applications.
This feature provides the flexibility to manually control each of the six sections if needed and allows the operator to toggle between different application rates. This flexibility is crucial for adjusting to unique field conditions on the go.
The pressure fallback function automatically switches from flow-based to pressure-based application when necessary, such as when operating at lower flow rates with just a single section active. This ensures that application rates remain consistent even under varying flow conditions.
As an ISOBUS-compatible system, the upgraded Kuhn Altis sprayer can now be used with any tractor or self-propelled sprayer equipped with an ISOBUS-compatible display. This flexibility means that farms with multiple tractors can easily switch the sprayer between vehicles as needed.
The Ag Leader ISO Liquid system not only makes the sprayer more versatile but also improves the accuracy and efficiency of liquid applications. By minimising overlaps and ensuring the correct rate is applied, it cuts down on wasted inputs and reduces input costs. The system also helps decrease environmental impact by reducing chemical use and ensuring precise applications that improve crop health and yield.
This upgrade showcases the powerful combination of precision technology and practical application. By converting the Kuhn Altis mounted sprayer with Ag Leader’s ISOBUS capabilities, we’re helping farmers achieve better results with fewer resources. This system is a worthwhile investment for anyone looking to optimise spraying operations and increase productivity through reliable, data-driven solutions.
In a conversation with BBC Radio Shropshire earlier this year, Georgia Wood, Sales Hub Manager at Rea Valley Tractors, shared her journey from Shropshire farm life to management in the agricultural industry. The interview dives into her passion for the industry, women in agriculture, and how technology is reshaping the future of farming.
Johnty: Georgia, you look very comfortable behind the wheel of a JCB.
Georgia: [Laughs] Thanks! Just doing my bit for Rea Valley Tractors, jumping from one job to another. I was loading a lorry when you arrived.
Johnty: All in a days work?
Georgia:Yep, all in a days work. Whether it’s in front of a computer ordering tractors and JCBs or loading lorries— there’s always something to keep me busy.
Johnty: Are you from a farming background yourself?
Georgia:Yes, I am. My parents come from a countryside background. My dad was an agricultural contractor, and we later got into making agricultural trailers. I’ve always been around farming machinery.
Johnty: And was that here in Shropshire?
Georgia: Yes, I’m a Shropshire girl, born and raised. I’ve been with Rea Valley Tractors for over five years now. I started as a salesperson on the road and have since moved into a sales support role, managing a great team that includes our demonstrators.
Johnty: If you don’t mind me asking, how old are you now?
Georgia: I’m 27.
Johnty: And you joined Young Farmers at 11?
Georgia: That’s right! I joined Brown Clee Young Farmers, here in Shropshire, as soon as I was able. I stayed active with Young Farmers until just last year.
Johnty: In that time, have you seen more women getting involved in farming?
Georgia: Definitely, 100%. It’s fantastic to see more women taking up roles in farming, whether it’s driving tractors or getting involved through Young Farmers. There’s been a noticeable increase in women starting farms and really making their mark in the industry.
Johnty: What do you think has contributed to that change?
Georgia: I think societal changes have helped, but the agricultural industry itself has evolved. It’s a lot more accepting of women now. Seeing me driving a JCB isn’t unusual anymore. Also, younger people are bringing new technologies into farming, which makes it even more appealing as a career.
Johnty: I sense that technology is really making things more efficient.
Georgia: Absolutely. Technology has transformed farming. Here at Rea Valley Tractors, we have a whole department dedicated to GPS guidance and auto steering. Tractors can now practically drive themselves! It’s a game changer for efficiency and productivity.
Johnty: Do you think this technology appeals to the next generation?
Georgia: Definitely. Younger people are naturally tech-savvy, and they bring those skills into farming. With advancements from places like Harper Adams University, there’s a growing interest in using tech to make farming smarter and more sustainable.
The farming industry has made significant strides in becoming more inclusive, with growing support for women in agriculture. Rea Valley Tractors is proud to contribute to this shift, actively supporting women in their careers and empowering them with opportunities to lead and innovate. As the industry evolves, Rea Valley Tractors remains committed to building a diverse and forward-thinking workforce that embodies the future of farming.
Family farms are at the heart of rural Britain. They provide more than just food; they sustain local economies, preserve our cherished landscapes, and uphold a way of life that has shaped our nation for centuries. These farms face a threat from the proposed “Family Farm Tax” that could deliver a crushing blow to farming families already grappling with extreme financial and environmental pressures.
You can support the movement to overturn the family farm tax by signing the NFU’s petition.
Food Security: Reducing the number of farms means fewer locally produced goods, leading to higher food prices and greater dependence on imports.
Rural Livelihoods at Risk: Family farms support jobs and businesses across rural communities. These proposed changes could destabilise entire local economies.
A Threat to Landscapes: Our picturesque countryside is maintained by farmers. Without them, iconic rural landscapes could suffer neglect or vanish altogether.
• Visit the National Farmers Union (NFU) website or scan the QR code.
• Spread the Word: Share the petition on social media and encourage friends, family, and colleagues to sign.
By signing and sharing this petition, you’re joining a national movement to protect the backbone of rural Britain.
This issue isn’t just for farmers - it’s for everyone who values local food, rural jobs, and the preservation of our countryside.
This petition aims to reach the government with a powerful message: that family farms are essential to the economy, culture, and heritage of the UK. Together, we can ensure that family farms remain the cornerstone of our food system and rural communities and preserve the legacy of rural Britain for generations to come.
