Feline Friendly Transport Carriers provide safety for both you and your cat during transport. Cats love to hide in an enclosed secure spot, which can be your pet carrier! Design wise, you are looking for a sturdy, secure and stable carrier which is easy for you to carry. All cats are different, some like to see out, others are less anxious when covered. It is important that your cat can come out easily, or that the top can come off so your cat can be examined sitting in the bottom of its carrier. How to train your cat (or dog) to use the carrier. The ultimate goal is that your cat will go into the carrier by itself! How you can achieve that is by firstly making the pet carrier part of your furniture and not something that comes out when your pet needs to go to the vet. Put the carrier in a place in your home where your pet frequents, also start feeding your cat just outside the pet carrier, with the door open, when your cat is comfortably eating its meal there, the next step is to put the bowl just inside the door. When your cat is happy eating its food in this spot you can gradually move the food bowl further into the cage. You can also place some soft bedding in the carrier and hide some toys or treats in it during the day, so your cat might find a nice surprise when he or she is exploring the carrier. When your cat goes into the carrier by itself and stays in there for a bit, you know that your cat thinks the carrier is a good place to be. Once your cat is comfortable entering and staying in the carrier you can start closing the carrier door whilst they are eating and keep them in there for a couple of minutes. You can slowly build up this amount of time when your cat is comfortable being in the carrier. If your cat doesn’t want to go into the carrier and you don’t have time to train. Place the carrier with an open door in a small room with as little hiding places as possible. You can spray a product, which has calming properties, called Feliway in the cage, this is available from your vet and needs to be sprayed at least 30 minutes before you place the carrier in the room. As a last resort, picking up your cat and back backing it into the carrier, tail first is a good trick. Gently place the carrier in the car, without too most jostling or knocking it. During travel ensure you secure the carrier by placing it on the floor or by using a seat belt. You can place a towel over the carrier, so as little visual stimuli occurs as this can sometimes upset your cat. For more helpful tips speak to your VetEnt vet.
