POWERED BY THE MYCO-GRID Location: E. 3rd St/Bowery, Manhattan, NY Program: urban mushroom farm, outdoor theater, interactive education & research facilities Collaboration with Thorfun (Fine) Chutchawanjumrut Professor Lydia Kallipoliti An urban mushroom farm becomes a sublime experience and signiďŹ cant resource by converting organic waste into food and electricity. The project serves as a keyhole for a greater system that would provide an alternative energy source in times of emergency and could be proliferated throughout the block or at similar city sites. It addresses sustainable food production practices and daily rituals of charging mobile devices in an information-technology dependent society while actively engaging the community in the growth process.

Inoculation/Spawning + imported mycelium is mixed throughout compost and decompostition begins

CREATING THE CORNER Location: Waverly Ave, Syracuse, NY Program: Fire Station Professor Bruce Abbey A proposal for a ďŹ re station adjacent to Syracuse University not only uses a traditional spatial logic of quadrants to address ďŹ re house culture, functions, and interactions between machines and people, but also provides a passageway for pedestrians to connect campus with the shops, restaurants, and other amenities on Marshall Street.

AQUARIUM [for Birds] Location: Atlantic City, NJ Program: aquarium, restaurant, retail, offices Collaboration with SaDe Lewis Professor Roger Hubeli An aquarium located off the shore of the iconic Atlantic City Boardwalk addresses not only aquarium operations and human intentions for entertaining attractions, but also the ecological needs of migratory seabirds that have become endangered due to the impacts of high-rise towers and artificial light.
