Inspiration Inspired by Lighting Principle Inspired by the principle of lighting, t h i s c o l le c t i o n ex p lo re s h o w a physical object is given a different look through being lit from different directions. After some experimentation, I chose to use six kinds of light— from the front, the sides (left and right), above, below, and back—the most direct and clearest forms of lighting to reflect in the designs.-
Design Concept Curled up and heavy, body and soul alike are tired The world is in darkness What’s that? Far off, a light flickers, calling My spirits stirring, I pull myself up And step by step head toward that faint light As my steps move me forward, the light becomes stronger Illuminating all directions Joy and sorrow merge and intersect Angel and devil converse in my soul Finally the light defeats the dark Once trapped in shadow, I raise my head Smiling into light so bright my eyes will not open Don’t be afraid! March on! The light will lead you to a brighter future

Six Directions of Light
Experiment Lighting Principle: An object, when light from different directions, presents a different face and different feel. In my experiments, I set up a mannequin in a dark room at night and shone a flashlight on it from different directions to get a picture of how the light falls from the front, sides (left and right), top, bottom, and back.
6
Expression of outline After finishing my experimentation with light and shadow, I used geometric shapes to express the lighting from each different angle, creating a sharper, harder feel and removing the softness from the light.

Expression of color The colors I chose to use were the blacks, whites, and grey, complemented by a lemon yellow highlight. Small areas of lemon yellow not only create focal points in the clothing, but also suggest the direction of the light.

Product Position The Light Me Up collection emphasizes sexiness (through a figure-hugging cut), exaggeration (through using extremes of length and shortness), and futurism (through color combination and geometric structures). The six pieces are divided between men and women. The women’s pieces including a cocktail dress; an evening dress; a high-cut playsuit; and an exaggerated top paired with tights. The men’s pieces are a stylish pair of slim-fit trousers and shirt, and trendy shorts with a shirt and leggings. In line with the principle of TPO, these were designed with the following considerations: Time: Fall/winter, evening (6pm onward) Place: Indoors Occasion: Suitable for cocktail parties, clubs, and dance & performances—any evening event where strict formalwear is not required. Age Bracket: 18-30 (women), 20-35 (men) Target Demographic: Financially stable; enjoys attending parties and entertainment activities; independently minded; enjoys experimenting with avant garde styles;likes to

Design Concept Building on a theme of circles, other circle-derived shapes were used, including full circles, semicircles, circles with segments removed, and cones. To emulate GloFish, which light from the inside out, I placed fluorescent organza beneath the white organza. The white outer organza diffuses the colors, achieving a more layered, fading effect.
1. Cutting circles of different sizes, primarily using white, with fluorescent colors as accents. 2. The circles were then folded and sewn into cones 3. The cones of different sizes were lined up irregularly and hand-stitched in place

Inspiration Zhang Daqian was a leading contemporary Chinese shanshui painter. His pomo (“ink splashing”) and pocai (“paint splashing”) methods combined abstract meaning with the essence of traditional shanshui painting, injecting some modernity into tradition and giving Chinese art a new face for the 20th century.
Design Concept The images in traditional Chinese paintings represent the imaginary inner world of the artists rather than any existing places. They did not focus on whether scenes were accurate or “real,” but rather about the subjective reality behind them, about the bearing of the people, the proportions of the mountains and rivers, and about structure and texture. Fashion is much the same.

Expression of color T h e main colo rs are w h ite an d different saturations of blue, used to represent the different ink intensities in ink painting. Using large amounts of defined white space can make the image stand out more, while the use of blue instead of black for the “ink” speaks to Chang’s love of using vivid blues and greens to create greater vibrancy and aesthetic innovation. Experiment To represent the outlines of mountains and rocks on the skirt, I used tiedyeing to create triangular shapes, repeating the dyeing process with different colors to create a layered effect, giving the “rocks” depth. For the jacket, I used a graduated dyeing method to symbolize the sky and the melding of the mountains and waters. The coloring, transitioning from dark to light, deep blue to white, represents the regression of the imagery into the distance, while also creating a depth of field effect.

However, it is paired with a Westernstyle suit jacket and high collar, creating a conflicting aesthetic between Western and Eastern.
Expression of fabrics and textures For this I used three different types of fabric to communicate the refined techniques of shanshui— the skirt uses stiff canvas to represent not only the robustness of mountains, but also the tenacity of the Chinese spirit; the top uses spongy neoprene to represent Zhang's innovativeness and affinity for the West, while also giving the piece an unconventional, futuristic feel; the jacket, finally, is made of thin cotton, symbolizing the fluidity of the air and water, as well as the kind and giving nature of the Chinese. 24

Inspiration “Le Rouge et le Noir” is a classic re a l i st n ove l b y Fre n c h w r i te r Stendhal. It tells the tale of a young farmer, Julien Sorel, born to a humble family but with great ambitions, and the tragic story of his love with the married Madame de Rênal and his pursuit of success. T h ro u g h S o re l’s p e r s p e c t i v e , Stendhal reveals the dark side of post-Napoleonic France and its conflicts, plots, and pretenses.

Expression of color In “Le Rouge et le Noir,” red is the color of the military, representing the glory of the French military under Napoleon, while black is the color of priestly robes, symbolizing the church’s ambitious grab for power during the European Restoration. In other words, the two main ways for a young man to find success in that period were joining the military or joining the church. 30
Expression of outline Traditional Western corsets were primarily made of heavy bone and pliable fabric. This corset is composed of eight pieces and is so tight as to almost restrict the breath, representing the oppression and bondage faced by the women of the past.
