Mad hatters Tea Party - Page 96 i chose this par t of the book as i think its a perfect example of the nonsense theme of the book. i also really enjoyed drawing the teacups for my front cover illustration, something that i can expand on in this illustration. i really real love the black and white illustration to the left, the view from above really emphasizes the busy table of tea and cake.
i wanted to illustrate the scene from above like this illustration to the left, creating a perspective view, and a line of sight towards Alice. Below is my final line illustration, i found it very difficult to draw characters as it is out of my comfor t zone, i am used to drawing from reference to capture realism. for this i had to allow ism myself to draw free hand.
“there was nothing on it but tea.” “The table was a large one, but the three were all crowded together at one corner of it”
Adding colour and textures digitally to line drawing. i like the idea of using the same tea cups from my front cover illustration, creating a strong recognizable illustration identity, however i think digitally painting the illust whole illustrating loosing the hand drawn quality and doesn't match with the water colour, colour pencil drawing and pen drawings present in the cover photo. Also, as i am not as skilled as other in digital painting, and my skills are more hand rendered, making the illustration digitally will not highlight my strengths as a illustrator. illust
i much prefer the mixture of hand added colour and digital colour, i feel this also makes the illustrations more original.
Adding some loose water colour and colour pencil to the line drawing.
Seperating illustrating more teacups for the table
