Diagrammatic Plan
Cities have seen guerilla gardens, rooftop honey production, and fire escape chicken coups. Now, urban farms may be adding “Urban:Farm:Centre:Peckham to the mix.

Programmatic concept/_ Scenario Collage 2025/_ Local food production
As more and more people move to ever expanding cities, we will keep pushing farms further away from population centers. The unavoidable result is longer transportation routes, increased reliance on petroleum-based fertilizers, and more high intensity monoculture farming on the remaining agricultural land. Quite soon there will be no more land. In response to the expanding cities of the future I want to create a sustainable production of protein for local consumption. The Urban:Farm is producing mealworms, locust, fish and vegetables for human consumption in a circular metabolism site system. I am creating a sustainable locally produced protein source in the core of the building at the heart of the community. As we are modernizing our houses, birds and insects are loosing theirs. To sustain the biodiversity in the city, I am providing new hideouts in the skin of the proposal for birds, bats, bees and insects. Reclaiming biodiversity in the city. The proposals are intertwined in the existing fabric of Peckham to reconnect the community. The proposal is creating a diverse true urban center that emphasizes public interaction in the production of food by education, experimentation, live experience and future food research facilities. In a sense, I would like to bridge the divide by reconnecting us to the production of food, and create a sustainable protein production, to nurture the existing community. The proposal will act as new center in Peckham, a part of a bigger system. A system of the future and this is phase 1.

With a restricted budget and a brief to exhibit 34 students final project in degree show 2013. At the grand entrance of Central Saint Martin Kings Cross campus we designed a scaffolding structure, relating to the urban context around Kings Cross. With a continuous theme the mounting theme resolved the mounting of the work by attach standard polycarbonate sheets as walls to the structure with cable ties. For the outside skin we used safety net attached with the cable ties.

I will by demolish the current structure open up Rye Lane and create a space for interaction between different social-economic groups. I would like to create a programme that generate the whole area and created more jobs. By intersecting Rye Lane by the rail I’m opening open up for a new centre point in Peckham. By opening up the site I’m creating visibility beyond Rye Lane. I have been looking at The High Line in New York and how it intersect through different neighbour-
hoods and creates a opportunity for people to interact, and offering low cost events and workshops. The site already has a main function, it is a station, and I what to create a flow that makes it accessible and inviting. By creating a holistic programme with five main programmes, GROW, COOK/BAKE, EAT and SWAP. I’m want to create awareness about the production of food. This action will help to reduce obesity and spread general knowledge about the subject.

Proposal on site.
Collage with cardboard model
Reaching out to the younger crowd, which already using the area around the site and Regent Canal, I´ve created a space were you can hangout and mix with different generations as there is a gallery and restaurant that will attract the older generations. By using ramps I´m not only doing it accessible for everyone, I’m also giving the skater a possibility to skate thru the whole building. In the book “Skateboarding, Space and the City, and the body” Iain Borden talks about how the skater experience the urban environment. Skaters does not see the building as a whole thing, don’t even care about the meaning of the building. The skater experience the architecture fractured, rail, stairs or potential surface and see it in movement, skaters are interested in texture, grip, sound, how the body comes up against the building. That gives the skater a more dynamic, but in the same way much more reduces understanding of the architecture. With Camden as a solid source for creativity in art and music for several decades I also would like to offer a space for upcoming artists to exhibit their work. The three apartments in the northeast corner of the site are meant for a caretaker of the building, a curator of the exhibition, and the current artist to stay there.

“How does one create a space were people could interact and reconnect to the community? Can one create a space witch can be transformed over time and merge with the urban pattern, or even better, construct a new one? A space where the user gets activated. A flexible structure with diverse expressions, just like us.

Architecture is music.
Through our site analysis we created a film+music strip by translating semantic memories into notes. To relate that into the space, it is in scale. Every meter of the street we picked up certain given parameters using our sematic memory combined with a strip of paper and a pen. The film strip is 7min, what it takes to walk the street. From memories of a space in a explicit moment in this case Camden High Street, we created music. To try this we created a filter made of a few given parameters, light/ dark window, how many floor a building have, road signs, trash bins, restaurant/post/bank/…and so on. It could go on forever. Everything that the real world exists of without our mind doing selections be cause of our past experiences and how we want to be perceived by others.
