Green Building and Eco-Innovation by Violoncelui Hub Violoncelui Hub represents a Green Building, and more that that. It stands for Eco-Innovation as a green inspirational space in a crowded and polluted Bucharest, but also as a makerspace for local green makers. The space is mainly used as an educational tool in order to promote civic involvement to increase the awareness regarding green materials in constructions, the potential of renewable energy in urban areas, the importance of urban gardening in living and working places.
History of Violoncelului Hub In 2013 the idea to build a place made out of at least 90% recycled materials was born.
Here is what we achieved during our project... How it was funded The construction was funded through a crowdfunding campaign with 110 local donors.
How it was built The actual building was done by 70 volunteers that were involved on the construction site.

October 2015 - June 2016 At the end of 2015, Violoncelului Hub won a grant through “Mobilizam Excelenta� Programme (Excellence Empowering Programme), funded by Porsche Romania, and managed by Bucharest Community Foundation.
A modular and eco-efficient building The grant, together with a significant support from partner companies like Egger, Hempflax, Maria Systems, Agoterm, Europlastic, Tekno Construct, Ikea,
Deloitte and Topanel, resulted in a modular house.

Eco Innovation Beginning Steps
In 2017, Violoncelului Hub has been in the center of growing an Eco-Innovation Community, consisting of enthusiasts for renewables and eco-solutions. Receiving financial support through the Civic Innovation Fund, a program developed by The Foundation for Civil Society Development and Enel Romania, we measured the following results:
40% Heating based on volcanic rock that decreases the energy consumption with about 40%
5 5 training sessions focused on renewable energy and energy efficient living and working spaces
4 Photovoltaic energy system consisting of 4 panels and 4 batteries
80 80 participants, becoming part of the EcoInnovation Community
2016 - ongoing Urban Gardening by Clubul Gradinarilor de Balcon creating a community of enthusiasts willing to learn about urban gardening

The Community of Balcony Gardeners is a project focused on creating a community of enthusiasts willing to learn about urban gardening while upgrading parts of their living and/or working spaces in green areas. The goal is to learn about healthy food, while reducing the food waste and contributing to creating green urban spaces.
