CoreLab is the only studio in northern Westchester offering the innovative Lagree Fitness workout. Created by Sebastien Lagree, it fuses elements of strength training, circuit training and Pilates to strengthen, lengthen and tone the body quickly and safely. The workout involves an ever-changing series of exercises performed on the Megaformer, ensuring a heart-pumping, muscle-fatiguing, low-impact, body-shaping experience. At the core of this workout is the custom-built Megaformer, a significant evolution from the Pilates Reformer. The Megaformer provides constant resistance and counter-resistance using a system of springs and pulleys delivering an intense fullbody workout. It offers numerous exercise options for the upper and lower body, and enables the body to transition smoothly and efficiently from one exercise to the next while maintaining an elevated heart rate. While on the Megaformer, your muscles are engaged in a non-aggressive, low-impact manner, making this workout as good for your joints as it is for your muscles. The workout is aimed at both men and women and will leave you with a lithe and powerful body, earned in a safe and effective manner. Class size limited to six, ensuring individual attention. Hours: Open Monday through Saturday, see class schedule online.

Tails have been wagging since Must Love Dogs opened in downtown Katonah in July 2011. Four-legged friends of all sizes and breeds can expect spa-like attention from master groomer and owner Jessica Riina. Two- to 3-hour sessions involve bathing, drying and extensive grooming of hair, skin and nails. Biodegradable shampoos and natural perfumes, homemade by Jessica from essential oils, are sensitive to canine well-being. Every dog should be groomed for looks and good health. “Groomers really know their dogs’ bodies and can recognize fleas, ticks, growths and other signs of disease. When dogs are well-groomed, they not only look better, they feel better,” Jessica says. The retail shop features fine specialty harnesses, leashes, jackets, toys, bones, Puppia brand products and natural skin care products including chemical-free flea and tick repellents. Excellent customer service and Jessica’s animal intuition stand out: “I feel a special connection to my dogs and their owners,” she says. “I love dogs, so I love what I do” — and it shows! Hours: Tuesday through Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call for extended holiday hours.

It’s fun to visit G. Willikers, no matter your age! You’ll enjoy shopping for toys that girls and boys will really use — from baby’s first teething ring to board games the whole family spends hours playing — and all kinds of gifts. Meghan Bazaar’s mom, Linda Ambrosino, began G. Willikers in Saratoga Springs and the Albany area 25 years ago, so making kids happy is definitely in the genes. “We’re an old-fashioned store in the best sense of the word,” says Meghan. “Our products focus on imaginary play and art, fostering education as well as imagination.” G. Willikers stocks well-made toys, puzzles and games from around the world — items kids won’t play with once and toss aside. “There’s a strong organic and ecofriendly bent here, too. That means a lot to us as well,” Meghan says. Customer service is top-drawer, with knowledgeable, helpful staff — mostly parents and teachers in their other lives — who know just what children love! Gift wrapping’s free of charge, a huge plus in these hectic days. Hours: Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tantalize your senses and enrich your life at Ebba, a lifestyle boutique in the heart of Katonah. Owner Viktoria Fisch offers a well-curated mix of products for self and home — including the best examples of Dash & Albert Rugs, CP Shades, Subtle Luxury cashmere, Laurie Berg Jewelry, Leslie Janson designs, Papaya, Angel Dear baby, Roost, Abundance Candles and much, much more. As a child, Viktoria’s sanctuary was her tiny second-floor bathroom, where she mixed batches of lotions and potions and clogged up the drains with all sorts of “unusual and special ingredients.” When Viktoria’s mom, Ebba, would call upstairs, asking for her daughter, Viktoria would offer the same squeaky reply: “Mom, I’m busy creating.” Not much has changed since then, except perhaps the bathroom and the ingredients. Ebba represents the culmination of all the things that made that one little girl feel “abundant within.” Viktoria still believes if you can feel your own abundance, anything is possible. Complimentary gift wrapping available. Hours: Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Celebrate 100 years of the Berniker family providing your family with quality home decorating, goods and services! In 1914, Louis Berniker began sewing draperies on Bathgate Avenue in the Bronx. Making houses into homes is the Berniker family’s specialty. From color and design consultation to expert installation, they excel in drapes, shades, blinds and all window treatments. Scott is the only Hunter Douglas master installer in northern Westchester and they are a certified Hunter Douglas repair center. For stunning coordination, they also create soft accessories — pillows, tablecloths, reupholstery, headboards, bed coverings, carpets and area rugs. The Bernikers’ personal touch drives their showroom’s longevity. “We create relationships. We work with families for years. It’s not just our business. It becomes a friendship.” Hours: Tuesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday to 4 p.m.

Conveniently located on the New York/Connecticut border, Pound Ridge Montessori has welcomed families from Westchester and Fairfield counties for more than 40 years with its intimate, multi-age classroom and educational program founded upon the principles of Montessori philosophy. Our AMI-certified director, two full-time AMS-certified teachers and a teaching assistant prepare the classroom, facilitate activities and offer students encouragement as needed in a carefully arranged environment. Children 2 1/2 to 5 practice and master the challenges we present to them and learn to be independent learners who embrace failures as learning opportunities. Our classroom reflects the concept of family, with older children learning to lead younger students, who move up to leadership themselves. The classroom, in a restored stone barn, allows for freedom of flow, small-group learning and individual mastery of each lesson and piece of material. Enrichment includes Spanish and sign language; movement and dance; and art history and appreciation. The outdoor campus, a working farm until 1939, is an extension of the classroom, with plenty of time allowed for free play and exploration. Rolling admission allows students to begin when they’re ready. Summer art camp is available — visit www.littlefauves.com. Hours: Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to noon. Still suffering after months — even years — of treatment for a condition? Hoping to jump-start your body after periods of poor nutrition and lack of exercise? Anne Samojedny, PT, PLLC offers a unique whole-body/mind/spirit approach to improving overall well-being. A craniosacral therapist, Reiki energy healer, physical therapist and dance medicine therapist, she expertly combines modalities to treat a wide range of issues: chronic pain from repetitive or stress injury; anxiety; Lyme disease; pre- and postnatal disorders; digestive/gastrointestinal problems, and much more. Anne sees patients from infants with post-birth trauma to children — some with Asperger’s or autism — through adolescence and adulthood. “This isn’t conventional physical therapy,” Anne says. “Most patients are supplementing other treatment to increase quality of life — they’ve exhausted other resources and want to be empowered to manage their problems.” Anne also helps dancers in local academies and troupes — including the Westchester County Center’s “Nutcracker” production — to stay healthy so they don’t end up with painful feet or backs. In addition, she offers educational workshops and lectures on a variety of topics. Hours: Call for appointment.

David Liebman is not kidding when he says, “If you can think of it, David Liebman the Handyman, Inc. can do it.” David the Handyman started out simply, changing an out-of-reach light bulb for a Pound Ridge homeowner. The firm has grown from handyman work to complete house renovation — and everything in between — in Pound Ridge, Bedford, Bedford Hills, Katonah, Mount Kisco, North Salem, South Salem and Somers. Call for carpentry, painting and masonry repair, all the way to basement and bath renovation. David personally supervises every job, from initial estimate to the final punch list sign-off. Now David has two additional services: Roof Zits removal and Humidex Basement Ventilation, which thwart mold and mildew outside and inside the home. “Don’t be embarrassed by roof zits; every house has them,” he says. “Our enzymatic spray digests the green, brown and black things that destroy your roof.” Humidex removes excess basement moisture and mold, without the hassle of emptying dehumidifiers. The firm is licensed and insured. References are available. Hours: Call for appointment and estimate, free of charge.

Bedford Stone & Masonry Supply, a fifth-generation family-owned business, is one of the area’s largest operations — certainly the premier site for masonry and landscape materials. Everett Burbank started Bedford Stone & Masonry in 1925 as a manufacturing plant, but 45 years ago the family turned its focus to stone, masonry and landscape supplies. There’s an enormous selection of natural stone and brick suitable for walkways, patios, pool decks, walls and garden paths, plus mulch, cement, sand, drainage products, decorative gravel, winter ice melters and traction sand. Scott Wunderlich and Arthur Wunderlich
When Arthur Wunderlich opened Village Wine & Spirit Shop in the mid-1970s, local wine enthusiasts focused on imports. Arthur knew it was only a matter of time before American wines were as popular as Bordeaux and Burgundy. Named One of Westchester’s Great Wine Shops by Westchester magazine and rated five stars for its outstanding website, they have one of the largest selections of American wines in addition to the best of Europe — from Champagne, Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhone Valley to Italy, Spain and Portugal — and exciting wines from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and South America. Scott Wunderlich gave up his job as a trial attorney to come into the shop full-time. In an era where boutique importers and distributors have been gobbled up by large houses, he seeks out importers and distributors believing in quality instead of quantity. Whether in the shop or on the website, we offer personal service in the selection of wines that will complement your taste and distinctive menus. Local and worldwide delivery. Hours: Open seven days a week. Monday through Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday through Saturday to 8 p.m., Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

efore you decide to get cozy by the fire this winter, let Mr. Chimney make sure your fireplace and chimney are safe and secure for your home and family. Since 1970, Mr. Chimney has been a family-owned residential and commercial business serving New York and Connecticut. Mr. Chimney, a member of the National Chimney Sweep Guild, takes pride in putting customer safety first. They will clean, repair and service all furnace, wood-burning stove and fireplace flues, to keep you safe from silent — but deadly — carbon monoxide leaks throughout the year. The National Fire Protection Association and the National Chimney Sweep Guild recommend oil furnaces be cleaned every year, gas furnaces be cleaned every three to five years, and fireplaces be inspected and cleaned yearly, based on usage. Smoky fireplaces are Mr. Chimney’s specialty. With the price of oil climbing ever upward and natural gas prices dropping to historically low rates, now may be the time to consider
switching fuel sources. Mr. Chimney handles gas conversions when switching from an oil- to a gas-fired furnace. This service includes generating the required affidavit that a full inspection and cleaning was performed and that your chimney liner is in good shape — all in compliance with Con Edison’s safety guidelines. Chimney repair services include thorough inspections, video camera inspections, resolving smoke drafting issues, solving water leaks, rebuilding fireboxes, rebuilding brick chimneys, making damper repairs, expert masonry work, repointing, waterproofing and animal and nest removal. Installations include flue liners, standard-size caps, custom-made caps, Exhausto fans, turbine caps, fireplace glass doors, firebox inserts, custom-made chase pans, metal smoke stacks, copper flashing, and top and bottom dampers. Mr. Chimney will build you a new chimney or fireplace, or install a wood-burning stove. Call 24 hours a day, seven days a week for a free estimate or emergency service.

Step into La Catena and experience a taste of Tuscany. Master restaurateur Emilio Delija has created a warm, inviting ambience that was praised by The New York Times for its “Old-World charm.” La Catena’s signature dish, pappardelle alla Emilio, features broad ribbons of homemade pasta with porcini, shiitake and oyster mushrooms and a shimmer of cream, tossed in a hollowed-out wheel of Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese and flamed with cognac. It was voted Best Tableside Presentation of 2013 by Westchester magazine. Order up more excitement with branzino or honey-sweet Dover sole filleted in front of you. Meats, fish and produce are always fresh, prepared from scratch and beautifully presented. Desserts are not to be missed: try the white chocolate strawberry shortcake, or the zabaglione or banana flambé, made tableside. La Catena offers a spacious party room for your next special event, and expert catering for your at-home celebration. Hours: Open seven days a week. Lunch: Monday through Sunday, from noon to 3 p.m. Dinner: Sunday through Thursday, from 3 to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday to 11 p.m.
Ruffled Feathers Gourmet Rotisserie, the popular takeout spot, is now entering its 22nd year, and its delicious prepared foods have become standard fare in most homes in and around Scarsdale. Owners Ken and George specialize in preparing healthy and low-fat foods using the best and freshest ingredients available. Besides the great rotisserie chickens, other items are available from the rotisserie, such as Long Island duck, Cornish game hens, fresh turkeys, and garlic and herb-crusted filet mignon. They also have oversized grilled chicken breast and skinless fried chicken, which is low in both cholesterol and fat but high in flavor. For those who choose not to have chicken, they offer many other dishes: grilled salmon, sole française, turkey chili, turkey burgers, baby back ribs and assorted pasta dishes are among the highlights. Other notable delicacies available at Ruffled Feathers include homemade coleslaw, kasha varnishkas (that would make grandma proud), rice pudding, mélange of roasted vegetables, purée of butternut squash, creamed spinach (it’s really creamless); cranberry, walnut and apple compote; solid white tuna with dried cranberries and apples; homemade soups and of course, their famous chopped chicken liver. Ruffled Feathers also offers holiday menus and catering service. Hours: Monday through Friday, from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Upon entering Designer’s Corner, you are surrounded by lovely, quality antique and vintage furniture, mirrors, artwork, lighting and accessories. We are the tristate area’s leading source of fully restored vintage chandeliers, sconces and lamps. Before opening Designer’s Corner more than 15 years ago, Judy Levine devoted her full time to interior design. She’s completed hundreds of projects — primarily residential, but also executive offices, shops and restaurants — and has a great deal of experience with construction. Judy is a member of the American Society of Interior Designers and is NCIDQ certified. Neal Hibbert, shop manager, is our lighting and restoration expert. With more than 40 years of design experience and a huge inventory of everything to furnish a home or model apartment, Designer’s Corner is the obvious choice. Whether moving in or staging a space, consider the advantages of a quick, professional solution to your needs. Speak to Judy, Neal or our other excellent staff members, who are happy to brainstorm with you and determine how Designer’s Corner can help.

It’s the call every mother dreads: “Your child has head lice.” No worries. Anna Albano-Krosche, the Lice Lady of Westchester, can come to the rescue 365 days a year, “because lice is always an emergency.” Anna is Westchester’s original head lice removal expert. “I’ve been in business since 1998, and I’ve treated over 10,000 heads,” says Anna. She is the area’s only lice removal specialist with a freestanding salon. She also makes house calls. Anna frequently travels to schools and camps to do lice checks and to give presentations on head lice prevention. “I’ve been through this with my own children and myself, and I relate 100 percent to everybody who comes in,” she says. A client’s head is examined under a magnification light, then is given a 20minute, all-natural enzyme-based shampoo. Nits are combed from the hair, then the hair is rinsed, blown dry and rechecked. Clients leave the salon with a homework sheet, including instructions on how to “delouse your house.”

ew York School of Esthetics offers the New York State 600-hour esthetics (skin care) course, which leads to eligibility to sit for the state-board testing procedures. It is our mission to provide an exciting, wellplanned curriculum for students, one that will put you ahead in this fast-growing industry. The function of the school is to provide a professional environment where the student learns the theory and principles (hands-on) in esthetics. We will prepare all students for their New York State esthetic written and practical board exams. Since opening, New York School of Esthetics has not raised its tuition and includes more certifications in the undergraduate program than any other school of its kind. These certifications include microdermabrasion, basic chemical peel, body treatments and teeth whitening. Graduates are prepared for entry-level positions that include working with plastic surgeons and skin care specialists. The school’s graduates are employed in dermatologists’ offices and day spas throughout Westchester and Rockland counties. As one student said, “I learned so much compared to other schools of esthetics and they made us feel more like family rather than just friends! I graduated knowing that I am a professional with great knowledge in skin care!” New York School of Esthetics is fully accredited by National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts & Sciences, Inc., (NACCAS) and offers financial aid to those who qualify. We participate in the Pell Grant program, Direct Student Loans and Parent Plus Loans.

e grew up here, we live here, we sell homes here — Platinum Drive Realty brings a fresh, professional approach to real estate. At Platinum Drive Realty, our mission is to enrich the lives of our clients, associates and the greater community. The company provides outstanding and innovative services in a culture of professional excellence and growth to make all experiences with our firm enjoyable, rewarding and first-rate. Platinum Drive Realty serves a wide variety of clients — from firsttime buyers and sellers to experienced homeowners, and some of the area’s largest builders and investors — and has assembled a team of energetic agents, many of whom not only grew up in the areas they serve, but who also have worked in professional industries prior to joining the real estate field. Our roster of dedicated professionals has more than 250 years of combined experience living in Westchester and Manhattan and includes multiple attorneys and marketing and finance professionals. They bring passion, professional and top-notch negotiating skills to each transaction, which have enabled us to achieve outstanding results for our clients. With additional satellite offices and designated agents serving Ardsley, Armonk, Bedford, Chappaqua, Greenwich, Harrison, Hastings, Irvington, Pound Ridge, Rye, Rye Brook, Westport and White Plains — Platinum Drive Realty covers all local towns and cities. Manhattan and Connecticut. “Our agents understand the importance of client relationships, responsiveness and the need for detailed analysis. We’re on top of every technological advancement and bring cutting-edge research and marketing strategies to each transaction,” says Zach Harrison, president of Platinum Drive Realty. “From the moment of our first contact to negotiating a successful deal, Platinum Drive will take you to your real estate destination in style, with the highest level of personal and professional service. Whether you’re moving in or out of Westchester, trading up or down, or buying a second home, we’re here to meet your real estate needs.” Platinum Drive Realty is sensitive to the wishes of our clients, some of whom wish to mount aggressive public marketing campaigns, and others who wish to sell their homes in a less public manner. Regardless of how you wish to proceed, our approach to real estate is quality, not volume, so there is never a risk of your listing becoming a needle in the haystack. We are available seven days a week, 24 hours a day, and our commitment to our clients doesn’t end at the closing table. Platinum Drive is also strongly committed to giving back to the community. The company participates in various charitable causes including the Four Diamonds Fund, which supports the fight against pediatric cancer; Albert Einstein National Women’s Division, which supports research in women’s health and cancers; the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, a worldwide leader in research to cure Type 1 diabetes; the Junior League of Westchester; and local schools and PTA organizations.
