Locals sign on for Pan-Mass biking challenge

North Haven residents Kathleen Mulligan, Chase Nelson and John Troiano will be among the more than 6,000 riders from around the globe who will pedal in the 44th Pan-Mass Challenge, Aug. 5 and 6 in Massachusetts. Riders and volunteers will travel from 43 states and eight countries to participate in

PMC Ride Weekend festivities. The bike-a-thon includes one- and two-day routes, from 25 to 211 miles, designed to cater to all levels of cycling and fundraising ability.

The cyclists come together with the common goal of raising $70 million for cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Insti- tute. Most riders and volunteers participate in honor of a family member or friend fighting cancer, and 950 riders and volunteers are cancer survivors or current patients.

Bikers Against Animal Cruelty is a nonprofit which advocates against animal cruelty and neglect, promotes responsible pet ownership and helps provide the cost of emergency care for ownerless victims of animal cruelty and neglect. “Our efforts are concentrated on domestic ownerless pets who, through no fault of their own, became victims at the hands of awful humans,” the BAAC said. “Pets that have been beaten, stabbed, burned, starved, tortured, kicked, tossed out of cars, left to die, and so many more awful acts. Pets that have been betrayed by the one person they trusted with their life.”
