Theater production set to make history
‘THE PEOPLE’S CONVOY’
Citizen report
PLAINVILLE – Plainville High School’s Theater Unlimited will present "A Word For Mother" March 18 and 19 at PHS’s black box theater. This will be the first time Tim McArthur’s play is performed on stage, and the playwright reached out to the Plainville High theater group recently to talk shop.

Taking part in the virtual meeting were Theater Unlimited actresses Hailey Calder, Lily Feyerabend, Zeyana Thigpen, Janessa Freitas, Marissa Freitas and Sofia Maksymiw, along with assistant director Nikolas Diaz and advisor/faculty member TJ Riccardo. SOUTHINGTON — A viral video featuring local officers lip-syncing a Celine Dion song and dancing in the rain has drastically increased the department’s social media presence.
“We did not expect what happened,” Lt. Steven Cifone said. “We were thinking maybe to get a few thousand views and as of now I think we are up to 325,000.”
“It’s accomplished the goal. Obviously people want to know when’s the next video but the goal is to have continuous content,” Cifone said. “So that when we need real time information or put out any type of emergency broadcast we reach a larger audience.”

cussed motivation and characterization, providing a deeper insight into the play, an examination of family relationships. In 2021, Theater Unlimited members, with help from other PHS students, and school staff, transformed the school’s Choral Room into a black box theater. "A Word For Mother" will be the first-ever performance there.
Black box theaters are usually home to plays or other performances requiring very basic technical arrangements, such as limited set construction. The space is versatile and easy to change, and the black backdrop can encourage the audience to focus on the actors. "A Word For Mother" will be performed Friday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 19 at noon and 7:30 p.m. Performances are open to the public. Tickets available at Tim McArthur speaks with the door.

Urgent care vet opens in Plainville
How To Find a Caregiver
By Nicole Zappone The Citizen
What do you do when you or a loved one can’t get through a day without help? It’s a problem most families face sooner or later, and it’s a thorny one. One option is to have an adult child move in with the care recipient or vice versa so that there’s always someone on hand to run errands and provide companionship. But sometimes a move isn’t feasible. Another choice is a retirement home that provides services on site, but moving out of one’s own home and into an institution can be a hard sell.
PLAINVILLE – There’s a new veterinarian in town. Dr. Valipe Satyender opened Veterinary Urgent and Well Care Center at 19 Pine St. last December and it didn’t take long for him to put a local pet owner’s mind at ease.
In-home caregiving can be a perfect middle ground. For an average of $25 per hour, you can hire a caregiver to provide aid in the care recipient’s own home. But caregivers can provide a wide range of services. Some people only need help with errands that require heavy lifting, while others need help with daily activities, such as bathing and dressing, or need medical care. What are the types of caregivers, and how do you find one who is qualified?
Joey Forcella’s cat, Dean Martin, had been constipated, and was vomiting. With Dean’s normal vet unable to see him, Forcella called Veterinary Urgent and Well Care Center.
Skilled care and custodial care If you need caretakers to change an IV or a catheter, you will have to hire someone with a medical license. Look for the words “skilled care” or “home health care.” If you don’t need any assistance that requires medical training, you need “custodial care,” “home care,” “personal care” or “attendant care.” These attendants will help the individual with activities of daily living, known in the trade as ADLs, like cooking, cleaning, bathing and dressing.
With the pandemic slowing and things returning to normal, vets offices are very busy, and can be booked for weeks, if not months. Satyender told Forcella to be at his office within the hour.
Types of licenses It is best to find a licensed caregiver. A Home Health Aide (HHA) license is a qualification for a custodial caregiver; HHAs cannot perform clinical tasks, but can manage a patient’s medication and help with activities of daily living (ADLs). A Certified Nursing Assistant, who reports to a nurse, is qualified to care for a patient who is ill even if the patient needs to go to a hospital or other medical facility; CNAs are qualified to change wound dressings and help patients by bathing them or changing sheets.
“He was wonderful,” Forcella said in a social media post. “It makes such a difference when you are stressed about a sick pet. And I cannot thank those of you who

mentioned the new ER and wellness vet.” Satyender graduated veterinary school in Hyderabad, India in 2004 and obtained his PhD in veterinary medicine from the University of Connecticut in 2011. For more than 13 years, he has worked with pets of all ages, and with all types of ailments. “Most doctors are not prepared for the un-

Most caregivers, whether medical or custodial, are purely professional with their patients. However, a companion’s duties include socializing with the care recipient. For some elderly people who feel isolated in the home, a few hours a week spent chatting or playing cards with a companion can feel essential. When it comes to choosing a caregiver, there are plenty of decisions to make. However, knowing the right terminology can make the choice as painless as possible.

Some consider hiring a caregiver “under the table.” We recommend against this practice. You could be liable if they get injured (and you homeowners insurance probably will not cover the claim) or could be liable for unemployment benefits if they are terminated. We have worked with many agencies in the state and can refer you to a quality agency.

Obituaries Joseph A. Donovan
Katherine M. Blatchley
SOUTHINGTONTrue to his word, “Only the Good Die Young”, Joseph A. Donovan, 73, of the Plantsville section of Southington, passed away unexpectedly on March 06, 2022, at The HOCC New Britain Campus. Joseph was born on January 26, 1949, in Hartford to the late James Donovan and Grace Sciarappa. Joe proudly served his country with the United States Army serving overseas in the Vietnam War, earning a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Upon his honorable discharge and returning stateside, Joe opened and operated Eastern Computer Video. Dad was a proud man, but not too proud to show emotion and love for his family. His greatest accomplishments were becoming a father and grandfather. His hobbies include but aren’t limited to being our biggest cheerleader and loving to boast about our accomplishments. Known for his soup making abilities, he was a Soup-er Chef. Not one to ever turn down a great adventure, Joe enjoyed scuba diving. He was a lover of sailing (because “real boats don’t have motors) and little sports cars, having owned many over the years. He found much solace cruising around listening to his favorite jazz music while the fresh air blew through his hair. Puzzles of all kinds, whether it be brain or crossword, camera manuals, or documentaries, those were the kinds of challenges he willingly accepted. Left behind to mourn his loss, daughters; Lisa Rodrigue and her husband Dean of Plainville, Kristin Donovan, and Nikki Politz and her husband Kegan all of Southington, the lights of his life, his grandchildren; first born, CT State Trooper Alex “AJ” Donovan, with whom he
SOUTHINGTONKatherine M. (Burrow) Blatchley, 85, of Southington, passed away peacefully on March 04, 2022, at The HOCC New Britain Campus. She had been the loving wife of the late Robert W. Blatchley. Katherine was born on August 09, 1936, in Hartsville, TN, to the late Leslie Burrow and Lucy (Linville) Robey. In 1956, Kathy met Robert in New Mexico while he was serving with the United States Navy. They married in May of 1957, eventually making their home in Southington. Together, Kathy and Robert started a family, raising two sons: Charles and Bradley. The common denominator and foundation in Kathy’s life was love with a side of laughter. She had a phenomenal sense of humor. Kathy loved her husband and sons more than anything. As her family grew to include daughtersin-law and grandchildren, so did her heart. Love was the main ingredient in Kathy’s recipes. She was an exceptional cook, taking great pride in sharing her many delicious dishes and desserts with those she loved most. Family favorites include Shepherd’s pie, stuffed cabbage, and kielbasa, just to name a few. She was famous for her cheesecake topped with cherries or blueberries and countless Christmas cookies that were shared with the neighborhood. Kathy is survived by her
